Due to it being a non- for- profit, a typical day started at 10 am and ended at 6:30 pm/ 7 pm. It started off writing and researching for a community newsletter that was sent out, setting up and hosting their Mommy and Me program, and ended with attending various school, building and community meetings.
I learned to not be afraid to knock on peoples doors and ask them about their community and the changes they would like to see. I also developed my overall people skill do to constant interaction with strangers, and understanding I became a face of the community.
While a medium sized organization, I had one direct boss. He was a Harvard Law graduate, so he was a stickler for details, voice, language, etc. He made sure we all were efficient, well worked and well rested.
My co- workers became my family. My boss taught me to grow as a writer and shed shyness, my partner became my extended family, and overall I still have communications with majority of the people I worked with.
The hardest part of the job was not being local, I am from California and was working/living in Brooklyn. I was often lost and afraid to look up because people always said how one gets robbed. 
The most enjoyable part of the job, is I felt safe. Safe to question, safe to ask for aid, safe to adventure, safe to grow, safe to laugh and enjoy my work, all while feeling supported.

The unethical and lying sales manager will brow beat you every Monday morning during a 4+ hour sales meeting that starts at 6:45am and that you are not compensated for but required to attend. This is a strictly paint-by-numbers sales organization where you will learn the very minimum in technical knowledge and face the competition with the highest prices. During the rush between appointments that can be over an hour drive apart, you will have the pleasure of fielding phone calls from dissatisfied customers because of the poor quality of work provided. If you truly hate your life and don't want to do anything but run your vehicle into the ground, never see your family or friends, and be required to run appointments that are over 3-hours away, this is the place for you. However, if you do love yourself, your family and friends, and want somewhat of a work-life balance, this is not the right fit for you. If you accept a job here after reading the, you get what you deserve.

I learned a fair amount to help me get a job that I really enjoy now.

The owner didnt communicate in very positive ways 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Kind of negative vibes. It’s not like anyone hops out of the work truck when you get to the job and is like “it’s a great day to have a great day” cuz it’s not. You will most likely get yelled at more than once. I don’t care who’s boss no one should be screaming at anyone at the place we all go to make our money. Also if you think you know how to use a rake or a shovel, don’t. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was hard work in the hot Sun. I was maybe 15,16,17 years old operating a mini excavator some days. A concrete finisher the next. Hectic. always yelling or fighting is bound to occur.

Groundwork has been striving to serve children and families become equipped with necessary tools for a better future. This non-profit organization has been serving Bedford-Stuyvesant and East New York neighborhoods for over ten years.
The position at Groundwork allowed me to dedicated my time and experience in making a difference in my immediate surrounding which was my organization as well as the lives of people who lived in the neighborhoods we served. I was very passionate about my work and dedicated every waking moment to help the team deliver.

My most enjoyable parts are when I know I've saved a home.
Company culture is great - until it's not...and it's not.
Hardest part of the job to me is the evident lack of commitment to customer service. Specifically from Production Leadership at the branch level.
So many on my team are constantly having to manage payroll issues and/or face ongoing and consistent payroll deductions without notice due to customer dissatisfaction based on quality or communication deficits. 

Participating didn't require much individual effort as we were assigned tasks as I team, this built a lot of my character as well as shaped my outlook on being delegated to. I was also allowed the chance to collaborate with others on a community event planning project. It was more so an internship/youth program so there weren't many difficulties. The experience was both fun and character building.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It's an internship program that provides helpful, useful information towards learning about landscaping. As a trainee you with with power equipment and basic hand tools for gardening and landscape upkeep.

Time constraints allow very little wiggle room.

Encouraging, helpful, the goal of succeeding

Arrive at 7am and work until 3pm

They are generous with the company swag

From the CEO on down, the “leaders” make decisions behind closed doors and punish those who don’t fall in line because they are not kept informed.

Toxic — there are key decision makers who don’t involve new people

There is no typical day at this company.

I have loved my job since the day I started, I am still with this company and I do not see myself going anywhere.  Management is caring, and they dont micromanage but they will teach you, but always let you try on your own which I like. Very interactive with the employees, and you can actually tell they care. You get PTO, 401K, full benefits, and more!
