My typical day at Grove Dental Associates, P.C., had numerous and various daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.   

New Patient: Taking new patient calls and responding to new patient email requests then registering all pertinent patient demographic information into database, assessing scheduling needs, explaining/answering any insurance, dental, or office protocol questions. Liaison between Doctor, Hygienist, Patient, and staff especially for same day emergency appointments.

Splitting Accounts: Divorce or Deceased family accounts needed to be separated for legal, auditing, and billing purposes.  Accounts needed to be separated by creating a new accounts, properly cross-referencing inactive accounts, transferring each patients demographic information and X-rays, then closing out inactive accounts.

Transfer Patient: Taking transfer patient calls, responding to transfer patient emails, or walk-in transfer requests.  Obtained necessary signatures for our release authorization form, complied patient(s) appointment history, treatment history, transfer letter, and current X-rays in the format specified by patient.

Recall: Contact our existing patients needing to come back in for next checkup and cleaning thru a series of aging reports to make correspondence calls, send reminder postcards, status cards, after a period of account inactivity inactivating the patients account.

I learned a multitude of skills, MS Word, Excel, internal & external customer service, scheduling system, import/export digital X-rays, convert film X-rays into digital, knowledge of dental and dental insurance terminology.  To more basic skills: organizational, communication, written, answering/directing phone calls using a multi-line switchboard, maintaining file-room.

Management was agreeable, friendly, listened to needs and compromised when reasonable.

Co-workers were friendly, out-going, and easy to work with.

Hardest part of my job was, eventually when I had learned so many skills, I had more difficult meticulous time consuming tasks, and an increase of new patients and transfer patients, workload increased and became extremely hard to multitask all workload.

Most enjoyable part of working there was the co-workers.

A typical day at work was assisting with patients in dental work and then also scheduling appointments.  Submitting insurance claims for payment.  My co-workers and I were all very close, we were like a family.  We had a great team work group and would also go to other offices to help out when needed.  Learned a lot of different procedures getting to assist with Orthodontist, Oral Surgeons and General dentistry.  My favorite thing to do was making temporary crowns and getting to know all of our patients. I guess if I had to pick the hardest part of the job it would be working with insurance at times, but not often.

I worked for Grove (Lombard) and have never been treated more unfairly in my entire life. If you have ANY crisis going on like a divorce or death in the family, and you talk about it at work - they will get rid of you. They have zero sympathy so stay quiet. Dentists also play favorites with the assistants. Less favorites get picked on for minor things that other employees do without issue, some were even allowed to be late all the time and that's perfectly fine. Co-workers were cool, management is awful. I'm not even going to get into much worse details to protect my anonymity. Horrible company. It's a huge corporation, you'll make way more money at a private office.

Seemingly a great place to work, but once you're in, you realize that you are constantly understaffed, no room for workplace improvement, gossip constant, not ever taken seriously. Emphasis on being a "team oriented" workplace, but punished when actually helping out and working together as a team. Benefits are terrible after the company buyout. Great place for patients, not so much for employees. Great people who work here who are caring, nice, and compassionate, but it stops there. Management and higher ups don't take notice of the "little people".

The doctors care deeply about each individual employee.  You are not a number; you are a person, and more importantly a person with a soul.  They also care deeply about patients and put the needs of patients in front of themselves time and time again.  Tremendous focus on continued education.  They are humble and fair.  

My work involves scheduling patients for needed treatment.  Sending information to insurance companies requesting coverage for their dental treatment. Contacting patient to advise them their cost of dental treatment on setting up a financial plan for them.
Contacting patients to fill the doctor’s schedule.  
Monitoring the doctor schedule for productivity. 



The coworkers are like family.  We all got along and laughed all day.   The management is horrible.  If the manager treats you badly, the doctors stick behind her, even if she's wrong.   She can be happy one minute and snapping at you the next minute.   If you aren't in her group of friends that work there, then watch your back because she can flip a switch on you.

Since going corporate a lot of negative changes have happened. Loss of good employees, benefits, compensation and standards have declined. More miscommunication issues and lesser care for patients. I know several providers leaving or looking to leave because they feel they were being required to lower the standards of care they are able to provide.

Management does not want anything to change and is not open to new ideas. No room to advance and barely a cost of living raise. Expect too much out of employees and no compensation. Air quality is poor and cleanliness of entire office is questionable.

The people are sooo awesome to work with! You get little to no directions from management. Fellow workers train you but no standardized training so no one really on the same page all the time. This company has 4 locations you could possibly travel between them if your an assistant for specialty. The doctors are great to work with and treat you like a real person.
