In the nine years I worked for Gulfside I was instrumental in building and remodeling 14 buildings, some of which were remodeled twice.    I worked with designers and decorators, general contractors and other trades to quickly design, plan and build out In Patient Units in nursing homes and hospitals, Thrift Stores, and Education and Counseling Centers.   During the relocation and  remodeling of the  four retail stores, I had the opportunity to design fresh new retail spaces in the showroom and functional, clean and efficient processing areas, offices, break rooms and storage areas in the back of the stores.  I quickly learned where to purchase gently used and new fixtures and shelving to create an upscale presentation on a very small budget.   


No two days were ever alike or boring.  My position was fast paced and full of responsibility for the building repairs and safety, patient and family environments, office changes and the overall maintenance and repair of 14 buildings along with managing nine wonderful staff members.

I enjoyed working with the office staff on scheduling and budgeting for the building projects and the day to day operations of my department.  One of my greatest joys was going back into the In Patient Units after they opened and talking to the families who were so appreciative of all the little details I put into place to make their experience as pleasant as possible.  I also enjoyed the many fund raising and community events that I planned and organized with the events volunteers.  It was so much fun working with the Sheriffs Posse on their Trail Ride for Hospice.  I enjoyed planning and organizing the annual Hike for Hospice for the last five years.  It was very rewarding to not only plan the event but to be a part of the marketing team going out into the community to tell everyone about the event and encourage them to sign up and attend.   Watching 800 people go through the start line knowing that I had a instrumental part in raising over $90,000 for Gulfside Hospice was very rewarding.  

The hardest part of my job was managing the work load for the maintenance staff so that they did not become overworked yet everything seemed to be magically repaired or fixed before the work ticket was submitted.  There were days that my multitasking skills were challenged to keep up with the phone calls, emails and drop by requests to fix this and that, or plan a new work area for staff that had joined the company last week.   Over the years I became very knowledgeable on modular office space design and could quickly turn offices into a meeting room or expand the walls and bring in work surfaces to create new work spaces for the ever staff changes.  

I feel very fortunate to have had a position where I could use my personal interests and talents to create and decorate lovely living and work spaces for the nicest people I have ever had the opportunity to work with.   I really had a great time being the project manager on the last eight remodeling projects which allowed to me reduce the over all expenses by 30% or more by not having to hire a general contractor.  The money that was saved was able to be put back into the project to purchase better supplies, materials and furniture.  I am extremely proud of the work that I have done for Gulfside and am thankful for the opportunity to work on so many interesting and creative projects and events.

I managed two employees and office volunteers in the Health Information Management Department. I was the 'go-to' person for questions and information. I interacted with nursing, chaplain and social work staffs to correct any and all errors found during my auditing process. I verified that all necessary paperwork was complete and in order for chart closure. I also handled various calls and requests from outside sources with particular regard to HIPAA regulations. I was part of the management team that created and implemented policies and procedures for the organization.

The most difficult part of the job was the large volume of work. In a hospice organization there is a huge turnover due to the nature of the business--patients that have a diagnosis of six months or less. Having an in-patient facility added to that volume due to the critical state of most patients upon admission.

The best part of the job was the interaction and teamwork I was able to establish with my co-workers. Our office had a very family-like atmosphere. Due to my telephone skills (honed during my previous job at Verizon) I was able to also establish excellent relations with outside sources as well.

I have never worked in a place where people - especially those in management - handle themselves so unprofessionally. The other reviews are 100% accurate: The management here treats you like children despite you being the professional working adults responsible for helping their company achieve financial success. Working in-office with the likes of these people genuinely feels like high school where teachers would look at you sideways if you were using your phone out in plain sight for more than 60 seconds or put you on some sort of probation if you aren't at your desk at 8am sharp. Also, everyone - especially those in management - are so unprofessional and petty and gossipy. It almost seems as though more work could get done if they worried about themselves and the job that THEY needed to do. Unfortunately, there is no real room for growth at this company despite the amount of work you put it and/or how qualified you are. Please look elsewhere. Working here was a painful period of my life. I would have given Gulfside 0 stars if I could.

Every negative thing that people have siad in thier reviews are true. In 2005 as a CNA myself and a few others helped to establish the East side it was a great time an a great privilege. 2007 as a LPN working at the Edwinola we helped establish the new (at that time) Hospice House. ie IPU we helped by also donating our raises for the year or two then we set up the new facility and trained the RNs on the EMR only to be brought in 3 months later to be told we ate letting all of the LPNs go. Their reason we where unqualified to work in the IPU only RNs where needed , surprisingly the pts we acute and critical, this was not true they had known all along that this is what they intended to do and never provided a relocation or simular job in another area or department, after most of us had worked for 6+ years. So yes no job security, no compassion or repect for employees. Glad to say I cared deeply for my pts an family an was very loyal to the company, You decide. LPH is no better stay towards  smaller companies. Hospice is rewarding, but choose wisely. Never was it the CEO it was her underlings that were devious.

Depending on your role within the organization there is some flexibility.  They do different events throughout the year that are nice. I was promoted a few times within the organization and appreciated that opportunity.  I earned a good income working there.  

Gulfside is top heavy in management.  They tend to be a gossipy group.  Unfortunately I did not learn that until I went into management. They lost many good employees due to their desire to fulfill their own personal gains. They have the reputation of loving an employee one moment and then in another moment being hyper fixated on terminating that same employee. The  running joke of the company is anytime you get called into the office you’re going to get fired.   I found the company to have a lack of ethics and often their desire for referrals outweighed the care of the clients.  

For any team member, but especially for me as a Chaplain, Gulfside Hospice is the ideal environment to experience the professional satisfaction, growth, and development that a hospice vocation has to offer. Executive management is open to new and creative ideas and they are always there to support you when challenges present themselves. Moreover, teamwork is the name of the game at Gulfside Hospice. I work in the operations area and our monthly departmental meetings and weekly individual sessions keep us all on track and in touch as we partner collaboratively toward accomplishing our goals and objectives in service to our patients and their caregivers and families. If you have a passion for your vocation and want to join a team of supportive professionals, Gulfside Hospice is the place for you.

Terrible place to work if you want job security or supportive managers. Management doesn't have any prior experience in their roles, so they are completely clueless to the industry.  They believe certain things are helpful, when they are actually detrimental. Can't trust management. Hardest part of the job is the continued stress for more productivity without a pay increase. The only enjoyable part of the job is some flexibility if you are a field employee.  The only thing I learned here is that hard work doesn't get you anywhere. 

I'm an experienced LPN and have been in nursing a long time. My first concern has always been my patients and their families. Over the last year or two I've seen an increase in the number of more experienced nurses and other professionals just disappearing, for lack of a better term. It didn't hit me until a manager tried to put on a happy face during my review and asked me if I ever thought about "retiring at your age" and that "as we get older, sometimes it's harder for us to keep up." Are you freaking kidding me? I can run circles around most people here and I don't appreciate my age being brought up in a performance review. Mangers here are really clueless.

The culture is great but the management needs a lot of work. They treat you like children, even when doing your job correctly, you get blamed for mistakes of others. Training for about 2 hours with the manager then expected to know how to do your job. They want you to be friendly to co-workers but don't want you to speak to one another. Give you the job of two or three people and get upset when it's not done. One on one's where literally "walk me through your day" made the job WAY more difficult than it needed to be. Everyday something changed, please seek employment elsewhere. People are jusy walking out left and right. PEOPLE ARE NOT STAYING AT JOBS WITH POOR MANAGEMENT
