You will never get the respect you deserve as a professional nurse in this company. Non-nurses and non-clinical managers will accuse you and your colleagues of being incompetent and will try to dictate your workflow, your job duties and responsibilities and will attempt to impact your decision making and patient care.

In the time I've been there, I've had at least two managers. One was "transitioned" to another location while one was terminated after a few weeks. They were both unethical, unqualified, apathetic. Nurses have been reduced to tears, emotional trauma and anguish as a result of their experience at HCA.

You and your few colleagues will share a workload fit for at least 6-7 nurses. It is a fast-paced, stressful, toxic work environment in all aspects - emotionally, mentally, physically. You will come home drained and almost in tears. It was a depressing time.

Patients are unhappy because it is a busy practice, after all and the staff/nurse/patient ratio do not match - frustrated patients will take it out on you - either showing up to the clinic in person, demanding to see you (and you will have no choice) or will harass and berate you on the phone. 

Physicians will make grave mistakes such as giving you information on the wrong patient and you will be left to clean up the mess and suffer the consequences. When they're done with you - you will be let go without warning. 

From one nurse who cares about their co-nurses, I highly suggest you keep looking for other opportunities - no matter how promising this position is, no matter how well-paid you may be or no matter how nice they seem to you. I would rather work as a cashier at a gas station than work as an RN for HCA.

I'd arrive in the morning and print out all the face sheets of the previous days appointments, and turn them in to the billing department.

Following this, I gather all the MRI, referrals, and outpatient orders from the previous day (unless they were STAT, and they would be handled as soon as ordered).  I would collate required documentation to insurance companies and other agencies to ensure a smooth scheduling experience for out patients' outpatient procedures.  Following that, I then check my phone messages.  Upon checking all the messages I have, I then relay this information to the doctors, if necessary.  

From this point, the patients are calling with greater frequency (there is a soft rhythm to this, with a few folks calling first thing in the morning for more crucial needs, and then there is an additional wave when people begin taking their lunch breaks from work around 10:45.  this lasts until 1.)  Much of my time in the morning is dedicated to to speaking directly with patients, whether I am checking them out after their visit with the Neurologist, or speaking with them remotely over the phone.

Intermittently I will distribute medically sensitive paperwork to both specialists.  Some of these documents include DMV Medical Reports for seizure patients, disability placards, and FMLA requests from our patients employers.    

After lunch, when calls (usually) abate, this is a crucial time in my day to address more process-intensive paperwork, all the meanwhile answering calls, checking messages from calls I may have missed, and working at the Neurologists' discretion.

One goal of these entities is to reduce the burden of paperwork for medical staff and to recoup lost efficiencies caused by workload saturation, paving the way for further practice growth.

Medical billing regulations also tend to be complex and often change. Keeping staff and billing systems up to date with the latest billing rules can become a distraction for health care providers and administrators. Another primary objective for a medical billing service is therefore to use its billing expertise and to focus on maximizing insurances payments by properly processing the provider's claims. They are solely responsible for taking codes from the coders and preparing accurate bills that are further forwarded to the insurance company. The hardest part of the job was nothing in my prior position that I found difficult. The most enjoyable part of the job  a reward for the hard work we completed. I enjoy talking with the insurance companies and getting claims paid. I like to see results. The most challenging part is keeping up with the insurance companies new rules or reasons why they don't want to pay something. Alot of times they just deny claims for the heck of it.

I come in, make the coffee and put the quote of the day, date and doctors in office/on call on the board. Fill copier and printer with paper for front office. I start my day by completing what I wasn't able to complete from the day before. I view the collections folder to check for payments received and mail out payment reminder letters. I check for any image reports, labs and hospital notes from doctors that need to be attached to patient files. I check for outgoing referrals and send them to the PCP, WC or insurances for authorizations to be obtained. I then start my authorizations for testing ordered, whether it's going online or calling the insurance company. After lunch, I start my new patient referrals. I start by looking over why they are being referred, decide which doctor they will see, and verify the insurance. I call the patient to make their appointment and verify their information. If there is enough time before their appointment, I mail the new patient packet. Meanwhile, while doing the task above, I am answering the phones and patient questions or other callers questions. I prepare the deposits from the day before. I also assist co-workers as needed with phone calls or questions. Towards the end of the day, I clean my area, turn the phones over to the after hours service and close the front office. If there is anything that needs my attention or was not completed, I place it in my drawer for the next morning.

We are very busy and understaffed in medical records on a daily basis. Not all of our doctors have embraced EMR and thus we have to do twice the work by keeping paper in paper charts as well. I love the people I work with they all have a great personality. Our management is not very good from the CEO down. The CEO and the COO talk down to you like you are a child and if you have an idea or a suggestion for a better way of doing something they won't do it or consider it. The only way is if you can figure out how to make it there idea. The CEO does not even have any kind of college degree only a high school diploma. Doctors are not happy and staff are not happy. Everyone is leaving the company and moving on to other hospitals or offices.

They are losing money and so we have to suffer and aren't allowed things like new computers and printers when we need them. Instead of letting go of employees who's poor performance affects other departments, patients and staff they keep them on adding to the problem of revenue!

I worked here once before for 4 years and it had different management but when this person was let go and the new CEO took over the company really started to fall apart. Outsiders even see this and ask us what is going on.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My coworkers and that's about it. The benefits are the same as any other company. They do help with student loans $100 a month for full time employees.  But I'm way beyond burned out. The clinic is very busy and numbers seem to be a huge factor for HCA. Also there are no paid holidays. Our own PTO has to cover Christmas,  New Year's, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving and Labor Day. We're a clinic but we don't get Black Friday or Good Friday which is odd to me. Also very underpaid. Looking for something better. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
HCA wants high numbers in the clinic thus equally exhausted staff. Limited staff to run these busy clinics with multiple providers and Fellows. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is nice. Coworkers and manager are nice. We're all trying to survive and another day it seems like it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work every second of my shift. I take my lunch break. I work and work but seem to stay in the same spot. It's so busy it's hard to stay ahead of the work load. Also if one is off for the day that work continues to pile on. First company that I've worked where no one else seems to know how to do my job and therefore orders will just sit there.

I have had the opportunity to work at ADC it has been an enjoyable place to work . I feel that we have become like family. I have enjoyed  working with my co-workers and Dr's.  It is always nice to know that we can always count on each other to help when someone is out or  wherever needed.  The part I enjoy most is the relationship I have made with the patients,parents I have had the opportunity to see them as newborns to teenagers. They have grown to trust and many times excited to see me vice versa.
I have learned a lot in the thirteen years I have been at ADC. I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge with my co workers by training a lot of our new trainees.
I have enjoyed working with all our Dr's and Nurse Practitioners.
It is important to be able to have a good relationship with the front office as well as medical records because without there support our jobs would be extremely difficult.
 My supervisor has been very supportive in providing the tools to do my job. She has always had and open door to discuss anything.
The Dr I work for is very considerate in the thirteen years I have been there ,there isn't one day that she has not expressed her gratitude for my hard work.  For that reason I have stayed with ADC and enjoyed working there.

Started working as a Business Associate, checking in patients, checking out patients, verfying insurance, balancing money at the end of the day for the business department. Then I started working particuarly for the Nephrology department as a Medical Assistant at this postion I roomed patients, triaged patients, gave injections, did all vitals for every patient. i was the only medical assistant for six Nephrology physcians. I traveled with each physcian to the remote clinics to ensure an easy work flow. Made sure all Medical records were ready before traveling. Calling in prescriptions and keeping patients charts updated. Worked close with the dialysis center to make sure all of our patients were continuing treatment and did alot of follow up with patients. Assisted Dr with in office procedure suchas perm cath reamovals and inserting perm caths, ordered all instruments and insured all instruments were packed and sterlized. Returned calls to patients and communicated and important messages with Dr.

HCA is a massive corporation, and with that comes job security and endless advancement opportunities. They're all over the country, so if you work in once place for a few years then decide you need a change of scenery, there's probably an HCA facility nearby. They encourage current employees to apply for internal positions, which is nice to see. They offer quite a few skills development opportunities.

The facility is beautiful, with an onsite cafeteria that offers some pretty good options. There are walking trails out back, and the building is loaded with tech.

As for benefits, healthcare, dental, and vision options are good. The 401k match is kind of sketchy, as it's only deposited at the end of the year rather than for each paycheck. In addition, you must've worked 1,000 hours or more during the year to get the match, so if you start in the Summer or Fall, you're not going to get the match.

PTO is my main complaint; it's bad. Even my supervisors and managers complain about it. You have one bank of hours, which is used for literally everything. They even take hours out of it for national holidays, like Christmas Day and the 4th of July. It took just under a year to build up 80 hours (two weeks) in my bank due to the deduction of hours for holidays.

I would never work for HCA again. You are nothing but a number to them. If you are sick or unexpectedly absent 3 times in a year, you get a verbal warning. 7 in a year and you're fired. Regardless of a doctor's note, regardless of any personal time off that you have. They would rather fire a good, experienced worker and have to train a new employee than to have any compassion for their people. 
There are many, many duties you must perform but no time and there was never enough staff. The phones are ringing all day and patients are checking out, lines are forming but they want you to do all of these side jobs on top of it. I always said we needed dedicated staff for phones and reception duties and other staff for calls. Half the calls we got were for address, fax number and doctor info, for which we should have had an opening greeting when people called. 
Rules changed daily, so even when you adhered to them, they would change and you'd be reprimanded for yesterday's work. It was such a high-stress job. I was actually laid off when other offices were hiring! Wasn't even asked if I'd like to transfer. Years of experience just thrown away. I was so much happier after leaving, though.
