I love coming to work every day. My managers are wonderful and extremely supportive. I told them that I wished to grow with the company and wanted to eventually go into Underwriting  so they are working with me so that I can reach this goal. 
Our team is always willing to help each other. We have wonderful employee events and the company spares no expense on them. 
The benefits are great, we get lots of holidays, some personal paid days, and floaters, plus vacation but I do think they should be more generous with regards to pay increases as they are not very competitive pay wise in our area. This would honestly be the only reason why I would be tempted to leave the company. PLEASE give us an opportunity to work overtime if we want to make extra money or start paying us more-you have so many dedicated employees!
one of the biggest things I see employees struggle with as a whole is work/life balance. Many of us care very much about our jobs and the company but don't get paid overtime and many of us work overtime without being compensated. Everyone is so worried with the heavy work load that we are afraid we might fall behind so many of us work far more than 40 hours to avoid feeling this way. Overtime should be offered and/or the company should be making people stop coming in and working  on weekends or before their schedule starts to encourage and remind people they need "work/life balance."
The other thing is that Management never seems to reprimand employees that take advantage of the company, exhibit poor behavior towards other employees and don't perform the way the are supposed to on their respective teams. This makes most of us sometimes feel resentful and lose a little faith in Management. Some employees have tried going to HR about some of these issues for help but HR never seems to help and I can speak from personal experience that HUB HR needs some improvement.
Lastly, HUB's IT department is HORRIBLE and USELESS. For a company this large they should be investing in a company that knows what they are doing. More often than not we have to deal with someone that is so incompetent we to either figure out the IT issue our self or or call someone we personally might know outside of the business for guidance on how to fix the issue. I have never worked for a company that has such a  horrible IT Department-really which is why I am saying this again. "HUB, PLEASE get a new IT  Department-this is important to us and this company.
Overall the most enjoyable part of this company is the people and my supportive bosses. I feel like I have learned so much and am continuing too and I overall feel very fortunate to work for this company


When I first got to Hub I was very hopeful for my future there but as time went on I realized how I did not fit in or belong there. 

The workload was overwhelming at times not because it was challenging (which is another negative of working here, no real opportunity to enhance your skills) or because clients were rude more times than not, but because of the sheer VOLUME. We were understaffed! And some of the people that were there were so incompetent and lazy that it was like I was the only one working at times. 

The work itself, though at times it was too much to handle, was not the worst part about working here; it was the people. My manager was the most biased, passive aggressive, inconsiderate person I had ever encountered. And she was trained by people that possessed those qualities. I attempted to relay my grievances to not only her but to upper management as well about the high volume of the workload, coworkers not pulling their weight, coworkers being habitually tardy (and I'm not talking 5-10 minutes on occasion, I'm talking over 30 minutes to several hours late on a daily basis), complaints from clients about coworkers poor customer service, the tolerance of inefficiency, the unwillingness of upper management to get on board with technology to avoid having to do outdated, time consuming and unnecessary paperwork and problems with our operating systems that get in the way of productivity. I was led to believe these issues would be addressed and they never were during my time there and I've learned that they still haven't been.

Best thing about working here was....leaving to go home for the day. You don't have to take your work home with you. That's the only positive thing I can think of.

I'm being completely honest when I say that I have never experienced a more toxic work environment that what I was in at this company and I honestly don't know how this company is still standing when they treat "select" staff so poorly. If you don't fit the "mold" or if you refuse to accommodate and tolerate inefficiency, disrespect, inconsideration from other coworkers/managers, then you're disposable. Take that as you will. Certain people are getting away with a lot of unethical, inappropriate, unprofessional behavior while people that actually do good work, who are punctual and diligent are being let go over petty technicalities that aren't even enforced upon everyone. If you're good at brown-nosing managers to like you, you're pretty much golden and can get away with just about anything.

I truly believe that the management will be the demise of this company because they are going to continue to lose great people.

I have been working in the employee benefits insurance field for a considerable period now, and I must say it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. 

One of the things that stands out about my position is the constant opportunity for growth and learning. The employee benefits insurance field is ever-evolving, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of staying updated with the latest industry trends and regulations. While there is a learning curve, I have been fortunate enough to have a supportive network of colleagues and mentors who have been instrumental in my professional development. The guidance and assistance I have received from my peers have made the learning process both enjoyable and efficient.

Another aspect of my role that I genuinely appreciate is the flexibility it offers. Working from home has been a game-changer, allowing me to strike a healthy work-life balance. The ability to create a dedicated desk space at home has made me more productive and focused, while also providing a comfortable and personalized work environment. This flexibility has significantly contributed to my overall job satisfaction and well-being.

The challenges inherent in the employee benefits insurance field have been invigorating. Each day brings forth unique scenarios that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The complexity of the work has provided me with numerous opportunities to develop and refine my analytical abilities, as well as my ability to adapt to different situations. The continuous growth I have experienced in this role has been truly rewarding, both personally and professionally.

Overall, my experience in this department has been exceptional. I have embraced the learning opportunities that come with the position and have felt supported by a network of knowledgeable colleagues. The flexibility to work from home, coupled with the ability to create a productive workspace, has been a significant advantage. Furthermore, the challenges I face in my daily work have allowed me to grow both in my skillset and as an individual.

The workplace culture is misleading and toxic. Management says they want honest feedback and then give kickback about all the reasons they don't or won't implement changes to make things better. The office morale is not good; there's a big divide from the president on down to the benefit admin tech specialist team. No one understands what the others do and so there's a lack of respect of time and lack of accountability when things are done wrong. We've lost good people within the time that I've been here. These were people who were asking for more help and/or asking for different changes based on what was told to them by other teammates and then they gave their notices when things didn't happen. 

When asking for cross training, management has said that they want to do more but don't take any action steps to make that a reality. This leads to a lot of confusion of who does what, etc. and then a lot of putting new responsibilities on people who's original job description does not cover that. I believe that there is a lack of value here, and there is a façade about how everyone here is happy. There is a lack of employee appreciation and it's felt by more than on department.  

There is a belief that there is downtime, however, there isn't. We are constantly working to prepare for the next quarter while simultaneously correcting mistakes. More often than not team members will voice their concerns and try to prepare for any oncoming mistakes and it's not heeded but then those who voiced the concerns are left with fixing the issues. 

A typical day is filled with internal huddles that aren't productive for all members included, but definitely time consuming. I haven't learned anything new about corporate America, in general, but about this company I have learned that it's a place where teamwork and boundaries are not valued. There's been a lot praise on individuals and undervaluing those who do so much of the leg work to keep our clients happy. 

The hardest part of the job is finding the best way to give honest feedback without fearing retaliation. Another equally hard part of the job is learning others communications style because a lot of the people I'm working with do not communicate when changes are made or when they'd like to see something different, and that's hard for my job when I have deadlines that need to be met. The most enjoyable part of the job, for me, has been the handful of people (literally 4 people) I look at as friends. They are genuine and I enjoy their company. 

A Typical Work Day at Work (5/5):
Every day is a blend of versatility and collaboration. I have the flexibility to work from home while also having the opportunity to meet clients in person. The balance between virtual and in-person meetings keeps things dynamic. Working closely with my peers, producers, and account managers as a cohesive team is a highlight. We come together to cater to our clients' diverse needs, and sometimes, the pace can get intense. Adaptability and being a team player are essential traits in this role.

What I Believe I Learned (5/5):
My tenure at HUB International has significantly broadened my understanding of risk from an insurance perspective. They've supported my professional growth by enabling me to pursue relevant accreditations, which has been instrumental in my development.

Management (4/5):
HUB's management style is refreshingly hands-off. As long as I meet my responsibilities and deadlines, I have the autonomy to manage my schedule. Monthly team calls and one-on-one meetings with my manager provide a balance of independence and support.

Workplace Culture (5/5):
What sets HUB apart is its family-first orientation, promoting a remarkable work-life balance. I truly appreciate the company's understanding that family matters sometimes require our attention. As long as the work gets done, there's flexibility to address family needs.

Job ad makes it sound as though you will be working for a large corporate office, but you are not, you are working for a separate office of its own under hub  that are each different in their own way and are allowed to be as long as each office abides to the corporate Hub rules & are profitable.  Makes for a hostile environment & poor management because the "higher ups" truly have no idea what is exactly going on in each office.  They just assign someone within each office to be "office manager" so they have a slight connection to the employees. I worked in a ma & pa office, literally.  Sooooo much family drama within the family that worked there... very disturbing. Because of that structure I felt like a nobody,  not important. I didn't even have a real title for my position in that office, hub corp said i was acct manager, but the office itself had my title as "customer service representative" even though my job description was 100% acct manager.  also, Its was BS cause the Hub corp rules applied 100% to me and other employees that were not in the true family, and the rules No way applied to them (mom, dad, brother, sister) many,  many, many times they even brought there kids in the office all day during working hours 8-5 running around the office, loudly,  was like a daycare!!!  Awful!!!!  No feeling of job security because if anyone was to be cut, let go it would for sure be the non-family member.   BE CAREFUL working for "Hub" because every office is different in sooo many ways!  and the higher up management doesn't care, they do not have your back unless your an office manager.  I worked in that hostile, drama office for nearly 2 yrs and i was forced to quit because they wouldn't let me make up time or work w/ me so that i could go to few dr appts that i had to go to after my major surgery. Yet the family was able to come & go as they pleased (bring kids in all day during summer & no school days!)  and as they needed.  It was Awful too that even the higher up I approached regarding my medical appt needs  for the short time agreed with the family office managers and literally told me in email I can either quit or continue my M-F 8 to 5.   I'd never recommend working for Hub, no security or fairness.

First off, my experience is only with the HUB Financial Shared Service Center in Riverside, CA, and may not represent HUB as a whole. 

What used to be a fun, flexible environment with infinite possibilities for growth has slowly become a untenable workplace. Employee despair is palpable. There has been massive turnover in the last few months, in no small part due management's utter and complete lack of communication and their total disregard for a work-life balance. The shared service center recently underwent a major reorganization that went disasterously awry. Many of the issues with the reorganization were flagged well in advance by the associates on the floor, but their concerns were negated and those with contrary opinions were written off as "difficult". And now, months into the reorganization, things are not only not getting better, they are getting worse. Management is doubling down on bad decisions and the entire staff has been on mandatory 10 hours of overtime for weeks on end. And if that overtime was being productive, I'd understand why it was required, but it is not. Every day has a new one-off emergency project, and those projects do not take in to consideration the after-the-fact clean up that will be required down the road. 

Adding to the pressure cooker environment is the fact that the office is absolutely overrun with personnel. Temps literally work in hallways and in the spaces in between cubicle walls; there is one women's restroom for the nearly 150 women who work on the floor; trash often piles up in the break room as the janitorial staff only comes in during the evening. The working conditions are truly embarrassing for a company that touts itself as the 6th largest insurance brokerage in the world. 

I used to look forward to going in to work years ago when I started working for HUB. But the slow descent of the shared service center is obvious to all in the company, and HUB's reputation in the industry is bound to suffer as a result. It does not have to be as bad as it is, but it will continue on this downward path as long as those who are in charge stay in their current roles.

HUB is a private equity firm-ran insurance brokerage.  Organic growth is negligible; HUB's growth comes from acquiring small-to-medium-sized local - usually ones with struggling or retiring principals - insurance firms.  Integration of these various firms into a cohesive unit very often proves highly problematic; many of the employees coming from previously-competing firms strongly dislike, if not outright refuse, to work with each other.

This is a good organization to work for if your primary concern is working remotely (the organization as a whole was an adherent of WFH well before the COVID-19 pandemic).  Another plus: this is an organization that generally does not micromanage its employees.  For those that don't mind showing up to the office, the facilities themselves are generally very nice.  The organization is large and well-known, and so there are networking opportunities for those that have long-term plans to remain employed in the insurance industry.

Unfortunately, the training, comity and communication between teams, IT/technology, HR, and benefits/compensation are all sub-par.  Employee turnover is very high, thanks in large part to that last factor.  It is extremely common to see new hires use the organization as a stepping-stone or entry-point into the industry for a year or two, then depart for a competitor.  Absolutely avoid this employer if you don't like nepotism; it is extremely common to have children and spouses of higher-ups working in key positions within an office.  Favoritism, too, is rampant; some long-term employees can consistently exhibit blatantly bad behavior and/or performance, while other employees are dinged or fired for seemingly minor infractions.  Overall, despite the façade of a well-oiled large company, the internal working infrastructure feels much more akin to a start-up.

I enjoy being here at HUB a lot. I came from a company with an incredibly rigid structure where I had to take my 30 minute lunch at a very specific time, and any time away from work actively made things harder for my coworkers, so taking time off felt selfish. It is the complete opposite at HUB, and they do an excellent job prioritizing me as a person and allowing me time if I need to do something outside of work, and I am incredibly grateful for that. I love my coworkers and team, and have not worked in a place with a better culture. The flexibility to work from home most of the week is also an amazing benefit that I hope continues forever. 

I will say however, that the medical benefits at HUB are simply terrible. Helping our clients review and select their benefit plans is literally part of my job, and every day I see employers both larger and smaller than HUB provide excellent benefits to their employees. I know the difference between a rich plan, a good plan, and a bad plan because of the nature of my role, and HUB's medical plans are bad. They fail their employees with both the employer contributions and the benefit plans they offer. 

They are not required to follow state specific regulations due to the funding structure of their plan, and so they do not, even when those regulations are at great benefit to the employee. I work in an area where behavioral/mental health visits must be covered 100% by insurance, however I do not get to take advantage of this because they do not need to comply with the regulation, and when I reached out to the benefits department, they confirmed they would not adjust the plan to comply. I had five therapy visits over the course of two months, but have had to stop going to therapy as I have racked up over $500 in bills from those appointments, and cannot afford to continue that on a monthly basis. HUB has the opportunity to allow their employees to receive behavioral healthcare at no cost, and have actively chosen to say no because it saves the company money.
