I took a job in central service and was made many promises.
The structure of my training was hectic and disorganized.
My coworkers were back-stabbers; I found this out at my review-you know nice to your face kind-of people-these people cost me my job with all their lies, half-truths, and more LIES.
My team leader (who thought she was the boss and rarely helped her coworkers because she thought she was the boss) was as lazy as they come (sat on computer most of her shift-not doing work even when they were short-handed and struggling) My boss? rarely saw him-unless it was to degrade me, never anything positive came out of his mouth.How these two acquired these positions is beyond me.
A bunch of gossiping and racism; something I would not have expected in a hospital.
My coworkers did not care if I learned or not.
Instead of actually teaching they just had me running around from task to task so I could not learn things properly.
I learned that "newbies" aren't accepted with open arms.
There was nothing enjoyable about this job; they left me on my own-after improper training or lack of training, which they took no responsibility for- and expected me to do the work of 2-4 people and when I could not do it, they did not get it, but somehow the day shift, which consisted of 4-5 people could not keep up and left me all their tasks they couldn't complete, on top of my own duties!!
This department of the hospital was the most disorganized place I have ever worked in.
I got a job with another employer (not a hospital) in a warehouse that pays better and I am treated better (so sad how cheap these hospitals are; except when it comes to their CEOs etc...) I spent $30,000 going to school and get paid better working in a warehouse;PATHETIC!!!!!
Also, my team leader, my boss, and one of the coworkers do not have their CRCSTs, which is a REQUIREMENT; but I have mine. These people have all been in the field for years!
It seems to me they can't keep anyone for that position. Is it the new employee? No, its the working environment (push, push, bullying, degrading and berating) It is the management and coworkers that keep this position open.

RUN, RUN, RUN from this hospital!

Terrible work environment in the Respiratory Department.  The director DOES NOT support the staff.  The director would rather put the blame on his staff in order to maintain his good ole boy, rubbing elbows status.  Past supervisor's have been a cause of problems amongst staff due to non support and gossip.  Having a supervisor that harms relations between departments and continuously makes problems worse seems to be the best pick for the director.  This mainly being night shift.  Until they get rid of the management good ole boy club, I would not recommend working at this place.  A typical work day can be more overwhelming than working at a large hospital because they are always short staffed and have no help from management when in a bind.  The on call system they have set up is terrible too because it allows other employees to take revenge on other staff by calling in and making them come in on their time off.  This happened all the time.  A staff member might get upset with you and then call in all week when you are on call, just to get revenge.  Of course the director would do nothing about it because it did not affect his life.  As far as the other staff throughout the hospital, they are great.  Working in the hospital and working with other departments was always enjoyable.

There are some really good, dedicated Imaging techs at HRH.  HRH has modern and up-to-date buildings as well as modern technology with some nice swag thrown in here and there. That's where it seems to end.

Teamwork is not a priority and communication is poor. Many times you'll send an email to a co-worker, manager, etc. and it will be completely ignored and unanswered.  Management is more concerned about getting a pat on the back for how hard they work then actually listening to and supporting their staff.  Managers have forgotten what it means or feels like to work as a Tech and how difficult work life is when they do not keep the department properly staffed.  

Lots of passive-aggressive and back-stabbing behavior amongst the techs sometimes. And, just like every other hospital imaging department, management plays favorites among the technologist.

I was the OR and Endoscopy scheduler for two campuses.  A typical day consisted of constant contact with surgeon offices via phones and fax to receive information on cases they needed to schedule.  Constantly working the daily schedule is like working a puzzle - when cases cancel or move, you have to be proactive and move cases earlier, or later.  You have to be mindful of man hours and productivity, along with available resources.  I also had to work closely with chief of Anesthesia to ensure staff availability.  I enjoyed the smaller scale OR scenario, people were much closer, relationships were more casual, and that was rather refreshing.  The hardest part of the job was working in emergency cases, and negotiating the disagreements between physicians as to who should have priority.

A small community hospital that is slowly coming into the 21st century. Technology is there, but attitudes are not. A lot of higher ups are retirement age and HRH will transform further in the next 5-10 years. ICU is higher acuity then you would assume for a small hospital and bedside staff is skilled and diverse in background. Small ICU means fewer staff which causes issues with covering for vacations, holidays, sick time. Luckily bedside staff is friendly and genuinely care about each other or staffing would never work. Off shift education, committee participation, and meetings are excessive. HRH wants their community to be the priority of your life and uses volunteer hours as a measure of engagement to help adjust wage increases. 36-40 hrs of night shift work a week and then being forced to attend day shift activities was harmful to morale and health. Breaks and lunches are the same as every other ICU- catch them when you can.

I very much enjoyed my time at Hendricks.  I learned so much, I loved working with the people and patients.  I took many phone calls and helped the patients in many ways.  I also saw patients face to face.  I did many jobs there including cash register, phone assists and in person assists.  I worked for a time as an aide in pediatrics.
The hardest parts of the job was the fast paced environment, but after getting used to it, it became second nature.  My favorite part of the job was the interactions with the patients and nursing staff.  I learned so much from the nurses and aides having to do with the medical field.  This encouraged me to return to school and pursue getting my CNA and HHA certificates.

A typical day is assessing patients and communicating with providers. I have learned to be more assertive and I have improved my nursing skills by providing a wide range of care. Management typically looks at how to improve the work environment and provider leadership and education. The workplace culture is typically friendly and most of the time team worker is priority. The hardest part of the job is not taking it home with you. Seeing difficult or sad situations and knowing you did your very best but at the end of the day you are unsure if your patient listened to care instructions. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you are helping others and most of the time they feel better before they go home. Sometimes just listening to the patients is all the help they need.

The management is always available to help you & they truly have your best interests at heart.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
For me personally, it is my commute.  But that is a personal choice I make everyday to be close to my family & have a fantastic career.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is very good.  Our direct department is a great team with everyone always willing to help one another.  The hospital as a whole seems to be a well oiled machine.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Just depends on what shift you are working that day as each one has different responsibilities assigned to it.  But overall, you work 8.5 hours with a 30 min lunch.

HRH was willing to give me lots of opportunities that I am thankful for, but some policies are strict and out-of-date thinking prevents them from advancing to a higher level of satisfaction from their employees.  They offer A LOT of benefits for even part-time employees, which is nice.  The attendance/clocking policies can be quite strict when compared to similar companies.  Even though they are growing to be a big system there is still a small-town feel within, which can be both good and bad at times.  

Management is awful, the entire chain of management is corrupt and will facilitate an open door policy. However if you do try to use that policy you will get nothing but a smile and they tell you what you want to hear to pacify you but do nothing about the issues in the department even if it is outstandingly unprofessional. The manager never has the schedule out on time and it generally makes no sense to the point of severe inconvenience at the expense of hard working employees having to run themselves ragged to compensate for the lack of management and schedule holes.
