What is the best part of working at the company?
Great company whose stated values match its day-to-day operations. They care about the success of their staff as much as for their clients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Can’t think of any. There is an ongoing need for Contant and they are open to creative suggestions about how to fulfill that requirement. As a writer that gives me some creative flexibility, which makes the job, perhaps a little stressful, but only in a good way.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I did not work in-house. I was a contract writer. So I cannot speak about the physical work environment per se.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
As a contract, writer I work from home, so my time was split between researching topics, and finding appropriate messaging that included the necessary SEO keywords. Obviously, I could do this in my pajamas and, not that you need to know it, but I actually did get dressed. Lol.

Working at Hiscox Insurance has been a frustrating experience. There’s a serious lack of support from leadership.  Leadership creates policies and doesn’t follow them, which is completely hypocritical. I never received any training, and when I try to ask questions or seek guidance from others, the responses are often condescending, and the overall attitude is quite rude. It’s an isolating and unproductive environment, and I’ve found little to no support for personal or professional growth.  Turnover is horrendous but leadership blames it on the employees rather than trying to fix the toxic environment. Time off is generous, but if you try to take a day off, you’ll be called all day and can’t enjoy it. On top of that the work load is high so you’ll fall behind and then be written up. Pay is well below industry standard and so is bonus. Overall I don’t recommend this place. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working From Home and not having to get caught in traffic everyday.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Customers yelling, screaming and being rude for absolutely no reason. The compensation and bonuses are not worth the stress and headache you go through each day.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a work from home job. You have different cultures that work for the company and some of the employees are worst than the customers. Obviously hating their job because their attitude reflects that!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Customer service customer service customer service.  60-70 calls a day. The max you can bonus out in a month is $450 (and that is being perfect on each job criteria) which isn’t going to happen.

Entirely too much gossip and the company culture needs a lot of work!  Work place bullying is common practie there along with, gossip, envy, and horrible attitudes!  The trainng was horrible, and well qualified people are looked over for promotions.  If you are a favorite of management, you will move up quickly there.  This place literally made me sick!  I was hospitalized in ICU on my death bed because of the sheer amount of stress that this company caused me.
The copany is very "clickish" meaning that people group themselves with their own group of friends.    They can't make up there minds as to how to run the company.  They need to hire an outside business consultant versus trying to figure everything out by themselves.

I had to go through 5 interviews before I was offered a job there as a contractor--- just, why? That should have been a clue that wasting people's time is a high priority for them.

I had no formal training from my department, only some shadowing. When I was assigned something individually, I was given little to no direction, expectations, or guidance. 

Day after day, I witnessed useless meetings and sucking up to management (even if you disagreed with them and had a good reason for it). There is also a lot of tension in the company because no one wants to take ownership of outdated/legacy processes and systems.

If you enjoy a collaborative work environment and supportive coworkers, this is not the place for you. 

The stated mission is a great one, and the company tried hard for years to live up to the mission. But over time the struggles to properly staff for explosive, sustained growth ultimately resulted in over-worked, under-compensated employees. It would be next to impossible to perform all of the work expected in the promised thirty-five-hour work week and take anywhere close to the provided 24+ days of paid time off. That results in burnout and resentment among employees. 

Turnover rates have been higher recently and it seems like the company has kept talent despite itself. I believe there are many employees who feel stuck, over-worked, and very frustrated with operational issues.

Hours are 9 to 5 - always very busy so the day goes by quickly! I was exposed to many facets of the business including risk management, audit, accounting, operations, and underwriting.
Management is always readily available and eager to support career objectives. Employee reviews are given twice a year.
Co-workers at Hiscox are amazing! The staff is young and upbeat - a sense of humor is a must.
The hardest part of the job is managing a heavy workload and the most enjoyable part of the job is providing great service to internal and external parties. Additionally, the company is socially responsible and plans annual volunteer activities for employees to participate in.

Company very much values career development and employee feedback. It seemed there was a genuine desire to try to make sure employees were taken care of. Very serious commitment to diversity and inclusion. 

The claims department seemed to be experiencing some growing pains which resulted in high turnover of management and claim handlers. This made the job feel a bit chaotic at times and led to unreasonably high pendings for periods of time.

The medical benefits were unmatched and there were paid holidays that other carriers don’t offer (President’s Day). However, pay was well below market, especially when being promoted internally vs hired externally. 

Overall enjoyed my time there.

I love Hiscox.  I've been here 8 years and immediately fell for the people first culture.  I've held multiple roles and each has presented it's own unique challenges and growth.  There's a great support structure in place if you need help.  As we ambitiously grow, the culture has changed somewhat and the need to do more due to volume of change has increased.  There's amazing people here constantly going above and beyond.  The workload is very high at the moment but I feel this company is worth pushing through to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
