Management doesn't care about the nursing staff. We are constantly understaffed. Secretaries are not asked but  made to sit with and do hands on patient care with confused, combative/suicidal patients. IRMC used to be a great place to work. It is a horrible place to work now. Morale is bad. IRMC used covid as an excuse to take away our retirement. All management cares about is money. Patient care is no longer a priority. Employees do not mean anything to IRMC. You are easily replaced. Nobody wants to be here! Employees hate their jobs! Benefits are no longer good as IRMC keeps taking from them every chance that they get! I would not recommend this employer to anyone. We have received no incentive for working so hard during covid except a $5 coffee coupon. If an employee gets covid. We are being made to use our sick/PTO time for being off 10 days of work to quarantine. The community donated $90,000 to  be given to IRMC employees. We could only get money if we applied for it with a reason that we were financially impacted by Covid. If approved, we could get up to $500. Otherwise employees got absolutely nothing!!!
We were not told where the remainder of the money would go to. IRMC no longer has a Pediatrics department. It was closed last year. If a child is admitted. It would stay on the surgical floor with an inexperienced pediatrics nurse taking care of it. All of the experienced Peds nurses have left IRMC or have transferred to the OB department. They still do the Teddy Bear Fund Drive and state that it benefits the Pediatrics department at Indiana Regional Medical Center.  

Being an X-ray/Clinic Technician at IRMC involves working at either the main hospital campus or one of the many satellite sites of IRMC. Duties include performing radiologic procedures of the highest quality for diagnostic purpose as well as performing a number of clinical tasks from EGKs to phlebotomy. Each duty is to be done at the best quality with the patients wellbeing kept in mind at all times ensuring the patient is being taken well care of as each test is administered and understood by the patient. A typical work day comes with many challenges, the hardest of which is being the volume of tests that need completed. Co-Workers become very close nit group each out to assist the other with tasks that require assistance. As well, management keeps a helping hand out at all times and is there to assist the employee with any questions that may arise throughout the work day. The hospital and clinic sites are there to help those people who are in need of medical testing and care. IRMC is one of the best sites to ensure a patient receives the service he/she needs with their care and wellbeing kept in mind and kept at the best quality that there is and should be.

My typical day involved either getting the patients ready for their day or helping them to get ready for bed since my shifts varied. This was a specialty unit for the geriatric population and the mental health needs along with physical needs varied from patient to patient and day to day so I was never bored. The most enjoyable part of my job was interacting with sometimes difficult patients and learning much about mental health problems as they relate to older people. I learned that the most important job that a manager can do is to "manage" which avoids a lot of issues that arise with staff. I absolutely loved my job there and would not have left if I had not needed to relocate.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The Staff is friendly.  I enjoyed helping people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nursing shortage.  If there were more nurses it would be better for the patients.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good.  Everybody is friendly.  The Doctors and Nurses are very busy and good at their job.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I take the hospitality cart around to each floor to see if the patients want to buy something.  I enjoy my volunteer job.

A typical day at work is working hard and giving it your all. I have learned coworkers are supportive and helpful. The management is open and willing to talk with you. The culture at the hospital is supportive and flexible, but the hardest part of the job is trying to joggle staffing and balancing patients to give everyone the greatest care possible. However, patients do get the care they need.  The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing patients smile and leaving the hospital set up for success in continuing to get well.

Calls go out 3 to 4 times a day, asking people to pick up shifts due to being understaffed. Not uncommon for management to push 7/8 patients per nurse, with one CNA. Patient acuity is not acceptable for the floor patient is assigned to, meaning you have patients not getting adequate care and family taking that out on you. A nonstop revolving door of hospitalists. Not allowed to use nursing judgment on holding blood pressure meds, you have to have that approved by docs. Have to fight with management because they are trying to send someone unstable to a med/surg floor. Union is the biggest waste. 

A typical day is hard work and lots of patient care. I have learned you get out of your job what you put into it. Management is fair and helpful to workers. The workplace culture is fair and balanced. Call offs are not benefical to anyone. You must try and be a team player always. The hardest part of the job is making time for breaks.  The most enjoyable part of the job is all the great workers.  It is a kind and friendly place to work. For the most part everyone works together.  I would work her any day of the week.

I would get the doctors report and code all of them and then enter it in the system. I have learned to code well, bill, and do the data entry. The management there worked very well with me and taught me a lot about the healthcare field. My instructors there that trained me were all so nice and patient with me. The hardest part of the job was the travel. The most enjoyable thing was learning how to do everything and learn new things about the coding, billing, and the data entry.

I have learned that my multitasking skills and fast learning ability has pushed me to be able to do almost every position in my department. I enjoy working with my co-workers and using our team work skills to get through the busy days. The hardest part of my job would have to be when you have a sick patient who you can not get to eat and see them getting sicker. The most enjoyable part of my job is when your patients get better and know you by name.

Uncontrolled chaos. Policies and procedures need updated. Management doesn't even know some of the staff members names. Management is more worried about a candy drawer than an employee concern. Over 15 people transferred out of the department or quit completely over the past 3 months and none were asked why they were leaving or what the problem was. Poorly managed department but with some of the staff only working at IRMC and are resistant to change, they fail to recognize that change is needed.
