Investors Title

I ran from this place as quickly as I could. They offer no training to new employees, setting them up for failure from the start. A rude, awful closer has run the entire closing department away and administration  did nothing despite multiple reports and negative exit interviews . Management gossips about employees and shows lack of confidentiality in personnel matters. They offer no support to help their employees grow their careers or to help them to succeed in their positions. There is zero diversity in this branch in addition to no support of a healthy work/life balance. Management would make employees feel bad for using their sick and vacation times and even would make employees use their own vacation days when they closed the office due to bad weather!! The turn over is terrible and they are well known among other local title agencies as a company that over staffs during busy times, just to turn around and lay people off when it slows down. The benefits were totally paid which is the only positive thing I can think of to say about this company. As long as the awful closer and the ineffective agency manager are still there , they will struggle to keep good employees. Management is a disaster and the main cause of most of the issues within the agency and why they having a revolving door for of employees. 

I was with the company for close to 20 some years. There was not much training, but eventually learned the job on my own and became a licensed underwriter. I Was a manager before leaving. When new upper management came, my staff was allowed to skip immediate management without my knowledge. I had no support from upper management and was written up without cause after 14 years of service without a blemish. Nothing reported was ever investigated. I was treated unfairly while my employees were allowed to lie, keep information that affected their job from me, and try to have me demoted when I did nothing wrong. I was the reason the branch was successful according to clients but upper management didn’t care. I was wonderful at my job, but was not able to accept the favoritism that was shown to my employees. They were hand picked by my manager because they had personal relationship outside of work unbeknownst to me. There were jobs created to promote some that didn’t earn it. I deserved better!

I managed the Goldsboro Branch. answered phones, quote and bound title insurance for attorneys for purchased of homes by individuals (This is required by the lender for them to have title insurance) Very fast paced,  Only one in the Goldsboro Branch.  

I had never written title insurance so this was a new challenge. I became a licensed title insurance agent.  I learned legal terminology and that it is a very "difficult language to understand". Would have liked to have more detailed training.

Management was good.  

My co-workers were other branch managers. They were all great and easy to work with. A great willingness to help.

The hardest part was the legal terminology.  Since I had no legal background it was difficult to understand.

The enjoyable part was helping the attorneys.  Building great relationships with them.

The company was 50 years old when I joined. Family founded and owned. The seniors aim to treat their employees well and were known to sacrifice their own bonuses to encourage their subordinates (a very rare thing). The company is in the process of growth and it is straining with the challenges. Engineering is pushing very hard to accommodate the changes.
There were two types of long-tenured managers: 1) some are very good at their work and hire smart people to support them, 2) others are still employed because of their long tenure, rather than their competence. I worked two steps below a VP in the second group. He was convinced that he had everything figured out. We could not get him to understand how much he did not know, nor give us permission to solve very simple problems within our own department, let alone a sister departments.


When I first started working for Investors it was the greatest of all jobs. A new management came in and cut employee benefits extremely. The work was based on productivity instead of professionalism. Many mistakes were made that had to be corrected by the managers. The managers took the fall for all errors. My situation was with an employee who worked directly for the company and based her job on production. I had to correct her mistakes even though she did not work for me or answer to me although audits results were my responsibility even though I had no control over her responses or actions. I had always received excellent yearly audits until my office was the location of a person beyond my control. Her actions and decisions resulted in an unexceptable grade which was reflected solely on me.

My experience as a young professional in my mid-twenties is that management is encouraging and accessible as they want you to succeed. Management is also very professional, and most co-workers seem to have an open-door policy where you can stop by and chat if you have a question. I’ve noticed the Company rewards hard work, and as an employee I feel valued for my contributions no matter how big or small.

Investors Title is quite dense in structure and there are many moving pieces, but once I was able to wrap my head around everything I was good to go. Overall, one of the best run public companies in North Carolina for the past 50 years and it shows. There is a hometown feel to the workplace environment in the Chapel Hill headquarters. I encourage management at all levels to continue to seek ways to adapt to the constantly evolving work place in all facets of the business.

Investors Title is out of touch and is a dying star.  Very top heavy, high turnover, no regard for employee well-being or advancement.  Their motto is Innovative By Instinct, but honestly they are the least innovative company I have ever seen.  Their technology and software engineer departments are horrific.  The company is comprised of people who have been there 20+ years and those who have been there less than 1 year.  Lots of turnover for those who have been there a short time.  In all, my time at Investors has been miserable and I don't see my next job being an advancement thanks to Investors and the poor skillset I have acquired there.  Stay away from investors, it's truly an incompetent company; 90% of all their issues are internal, it's a mess of a company.

Investors Title has been a great company to work for. Advancement opportunities are available, however it is up to you to put in the work and show you deserve it. They are not a Company to "handout" promotions without evidence that you are the right candidate. I have been employed with the Company for 15+ years. I have worked hard to advance and Investors (management) has taken notice. Growth is different for everyone and there are many different avenues (departments) to pursue. Title Insurance is an interesting and ever changing industry and I enjoy sharing the knowledge I have gained over the years with new employees. 

The company has grown considerably in recent years but has retained a small business feel with supportive and collaborative colleagues. Management is accessible and very hands-on with decision making and all company initiatives.  There are opportunities to learn, grow, and advance in your role and in many subject areas related to company products and services as well as current trends in the real estate industry.  

Worst job I've ever had. The extremely greedy "executive brothers" have sold their soles to the devil. Expect to work 55+ hours a week with few vacation days and no comp time. Expect to work Christmas Eve, half of American's traditional holidays and nights/weekends. They fire young people frequently. Modern day slavery and bullying from management. My life has been stressful and unenjoyable every day since joining Investors Title.
