Overall, I wouldn’t say this is the worst place to work, but it’s certainly far from the best. The following are key things I witnessed repeatedly throughout my employment at Emery Place.
 

Management shows clear favoritism and discusses employees behind their backs with other staff members, creating a toxic and untrustworthy work environment. Reliable, hard-working employees are often punished harshly for minor mistakes, while those who consistently underperform face little to no consequences.



Punctuality is a major issue, most staff do not arrive on time, which means staying well past the end of your scheduled shift, often 30 to 40 minutes longer. The current nurse is extremely unprofessional and frequently neglects core nursing responsibilities.



Drama among staff is constant, and the work environment suffers as a result. Training is poor and turnover is high, leaving many staff underprepared and unsupported. The facility itself has serious cleanliness issues—I personally saw a few roaches,  multiple spiders, centipedes, and ants on a regular basis.



Calling in sick is another nightmare. Even if you're extremely ill, you're still expected to find your own coverage or risk being penalized. The health benefits are inadequate and offer little actual support.



Most troubling of all is the level of resident neglect I witnessed. Basic care, such as changing residents' Depends, doing regular visual checks, and responding to call lights, is frequently ignored by staff.



If you are considering employment here, proceed with caution and keep your expectations realistic.



Firstly, there wasn’t really an “interview” process. I was asked a few questions about my previous experience as a caregiver before being told about the job and what my shift would look like. 

I was hired for full time hours overnight, and was told online training was paid (it was!), but the in-person training was inconsistent and confusing. They often passed my training onto employees who were unaware. I also never received training for passing medication as it seems like I slipped through the cracks of the training process.

Eventually I found the scheduling was causing some issues for me as well. I was hired for full time hours and only got maybe 24 hours every other week as I was assigned every other weekend.

Eventually as I made the unfortunate decision to leave, there was no clear communication and I realized I was unaware of who to report to, as management had been unclear and hard to contact. I unfortunately couldn’t find anyone to give me the staffing line phone number or the procedure for when I was sick.

Most of the process just lacked professionalism and even with my resignation the follow up email was “Okay thanks” and there was no additional follow up or concerns about improvement.

Overall if you want high structure and consistent hours with clear and reliable management to guide you, then this is probably not the place for you.

Absolutely worst place to work in the history of jobs! Pay is terrible, management is even more terrible and the amount of work is not worth the time and energy for what your getting paid for!! If I could give this place a rating of negative stars, I totally would! It’s not worth the time and money! All management cares about is themselves! They don’t care about their fellow employees, they treated us like dirt!! They do NOT even acknowledge that we work hard to satisfy the residents, you would think that management would compensate their employees for working double shifts because of how short staff they are, but instead, you get written up for not clocking out! How pathetic is that?? If management appreciated their staff, and all that they do for the residents, they would make their employees feel that way! This place needs to pay there employees better and get new management who will actually card about there employees!! Management at sunset park place only cares about filling up the apartments with whomever they can find off the streets just to make the numbers look good, and to get more money! This is a million dollar business and they treat their employees poorly, not giving them compensation for working hard! Never again will I work in a place like this! Words cannot express how pathetic this place is! Whatever you do, do NOT apply for a job here!!!

What is the best part of working at the company?
You can do your job without micromanagement, even corporate is there when you need them (to answer questions or give you support when you need it.) It's a smaller sized Leadership Team so some job sharing goes but that helps you appreciate what your co-workers do even if the favor isn't returned. Good company, amazing residents, scenic location filled with wildlife! Come check us out! Keep an eye out for our hosted events that welcomes the Roseville community to be apart of!! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The fact that Maintenance is a Team of one. There was a team of two previously.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is reflective of the location, and the quality of training staff receives. Attitude is everything. We keep it positive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive, Walk the Facility and the grounds, check on staff, attend our moring management meeting, resolve any immediate issues, then prioritize my day based on community needs, work orders, Apartment turn-overs, Regulatory items, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, preventive maintenance, working with vendors to some building tasks, emergency preparedness program. Occasionally helping out Housekeeping.

I really enjoyed working here for the first month or two of my employment. Then I quickly realized that everything I was told and promised about working for the company fell disappointingly short. 

There is a severe lack of communication between corporate employees and management at the actual communities. Multiple people will give you different instructions and then discipline you when you don't follow the contradicting instructions from multiple people. 

They elevate their support of work-life balance but expect you to work during evening and weekend hours without extra pay while also telling you that working from home is not allowed with your position. There are a lot of hypocritical policies and it's very clear the corporate staff, and many of the staff in the actual communities don't care about RA's or the residents. 

During a meeting, the COO made condescending comments about single moms working in these roles that were out of pocket and perpetuated negative stereotypes. 

They will tell you they are always available for help or continued training but treat you with condescension when you ask questions or ask for help. 

Overall, I would never recommend working for this company .

The residents are great, wonderful, the families are just as great. They're always appreciative of the aides who work very, VERY hard. 
•management turnover is constant 
• according to the nurse the aides are "dime a dozen"
•In Memory Care you are responsible for EVERY SINGLE DAY TO DAY NEED FOR THE RESIDENTS. Laundry, meds, showers, dressing, undressing, oral care, peri care, activities, plating & serving meals, washing dishes, house keeping, garbage and recycling, wound care, literally everything except cooking. 
•You do NOT get a 30 minute break, you get two 15 min breaks and management watches you. 
•Their current "Lead" and its position is literally a joke.
•There is the BARE minimum of activities for MC, most of the time there is none at all, RA's are responsible for stimulation even though there are two activity coordinators.
•It's basically ran by pool staff, they can't keep any employees because of management. 
• The food is "okay" but memory care never gets an alternative if they don't like the meal, unless RA's make them a penut butter sandwich. They aren't allowed Juice after breakfast.
•Random drug tests every 3 months 

Milestone will basically hire anyone. They continuously cut hours and benefits for workers, and lean on being able to hire a rotating door of people who don't even do the bare minimum of work or care for the residents. The on call policy is that if someone doesn't come in, whoever is there or whoever comes in has to either stay 4 hours later or come in 4 hours early. On call designsted management positions almost never cover the hours, if they don't want to. The benefits are terrible as is, and any sort of bonuses, benefits or extra hours have been continuously cut over time by corporate. Corporate doesn't listen to employees input at all, and management can't make any difference to bad policies or changes themselves, so you're stuck with whatever corporate decides to do, often based more on income and profit vs employee benefit ot resident benefit. Management is terrible at communicating changes in schedule. Many residents are accepted without any thought to the level of care required vs the level of staffing available. Wouldn't recommend working here.

Typical work day is manageable. As a member of leadership you do wear many hats.  There are days when you are providing direct cares to residents, the next day you are heading up a vital signs clinic. The variety is nice. I have learned that being flexable is a survival skill in health care. You have your resident's needs guide your way.  My upper management are accessable by either email or phone. They get back to me quickly and have never made me feel like I am bothering them. The culture within this facility is undergoing a rebuilding process after the loss of old management. Building trust within the coordinator team is going well. Passing that trust on to the direct care staff is probably the hardest part of my position. The direct care staff are learning how to trust leadership again, and some have recommended to their friends that they should apply to work here. My residents are the most enjoyable part of my job. Their stories enrich my story. Their lives enrich my life. 

If you enjoy working in a filthy facility with uneducated staff, then this is the place for you. You will be harassed by coworkers, and management to take additional shifts, even if you have 20+ hours of OT. The management does not respect or appreciate the resident aides. Be prepared to endure se xual harassment from the maintenance man. The level of care for most residents is much higher than an assisted living facility or memory care unit should provide. State regulations are not followed. Residents sit in soiled clothes/undergarments because there simply are not enough aides scheduled during a shift to properly care for the residents and because the majority of the employees are lazy and don't care about the resident's well-being. The residents aren't happy, the family members aren't happy, and the resident aides aren't happy. After reporting dependent adult abuse to management, no further action was pursued. This is not a safe environment for residents or employees.

No one is happy and never have anything positive to say about each other.(STAFF WISE) very short handed, low pay for all the nursing work we do for our RN's. unappreciative when going the extra mile. I feel their employees are a number and not and individual. Their is no TEAMWORK!

upper management needs to help out more on the floor! Management needs to be more available to the outside/ inside and available to take important calls. need to get to know their residents needs vs. assuming! 

hardest part about my job is letting go of our residents when there time is up. we grow to be close to our residents as family. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is making them smile on a reg. basis and joking around with them. If a resident is wanting something and i can give it to them i would.

what i have learned from this job is patience and a big smile when you don't agree with something. I do believe that there is no "I" in TEAM. we need more guidance in this department.
