Jones Memorial Hospital

At Jones Memorial Hospital there are two locations to have an ultrasound performed. One is at the hospital itself where out-patients are scheduled daily and there are add-on in-patients and ER patients. The other location is at the OB/GYN office down the road where mainly scheduled OB and GYN exams are performed. There are three sonographers and we work on a rotating schedule so there can be a call person for the evening and weekend times.
Our radiologist group comes into the hospital from out of town and they are all very knowledgeable in different modalities and specialties. They are willing to work with the staff so we can perform the best exam possible for them to read and for the patient's care.
Jones Memorial is placed in a small town but is the largest hospital in the county. Everyone in the department is very close and those relationships do extend into other departments also. Sometimes that can be a good and bad thing as having personal topics come into the work place can cause unnecessary problems. Some days can be tough because it seems as though almost everyone knows everything. However, being an outsider like myself, it does not seem to get in the way of anything since I don't know anyone personally in that respect.
The hospital is constantly striving to achieve great survey scores and patient care trends. I am always willing to play any part in that role and help the patients see that they are number one when in our care.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good work environment.  I liked working with all my Co workers. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Pretty stress free work environment to be in. There might be times that work orders flooded in but nothing to stressful in my experience 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good work environment with a positive and professional staff

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Usually started with a meeting to go over work orders or any issues that might need addressed as a priority. Go over what I had planned for work through my day with supervisor. Then perform the tasks I went over with supervisor after morning meeting concluded

Money does not go to employee salaries, never get raises. Wont spend money on good quality bedding/linen company. Wont even buy Hoyer's pads to do your job. Very hostile and negative environment. Feel the friction. No help from administrators, also like to reward the bad employees and the good ones get reprimanded. Most the nurses dont do anything, just put work off on nurses aides, show up just to collect a check and are not concerned enough about people's quality of life. It's a very poor hospital,  with very poor management. Everyone working there is always miserable.

The only reason I stayed at Jones as long as I have is because if my coworkers. They genuinely care about you and your personal life and support you through life. However, management does not have the same support. They do not recognize their employees (especially while working through covid), the performance appraisals set you up to have to advocate highly for yourself with provide documented proof to receive a bonus, and they do not have an incentives to continue working here. One small perk is the yearly cost of living raise (which ends up being more than your actual raise).  I truly believe a majority of the staff stay simply because it’s a small town that doesn’t have a lot of job opportunities. 

Providers bully and intimidate other staff members, making work very stressful. New drama and gossip daily. Definitely favoritism going on. Poor management. No benefits and lower pay scale than other hospitals in the area. I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt and stuck it out far too long. It didn’t get any better. While I met many friendly and helpful nurses, the negatives always outweighed the positives for me. The workload itself wasn’t terrible but understaffing was usually an issue. In summary, definitely not my idea of a healthy work environment.

my supervisors were awesome, my co-workers became family and forever friends.

none, even in situations that could have been stressful we worker as a team

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
friendly, team work centered, pleasant

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
relaxed, routine to fast paced. you never knew what emergency would come through the ER doors

It's been over 10 years since I have worked there. I was happy in my position and probably would have stayed until retirement, but management lied and things fell apart. It is still an open wound for me. I did absolutely nothing wrong and exactly what my NM told me to do. It was a thankless RN position that I loved.
Everything has changed since then except the higher up administration.  I would encourage anyone to take a chance and apply.  My Mother and husband got excellent care while patients there recently. I still have friends that work there.

Coworkers are great to work with.   Very knowledgeable


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with one doctor,  and limited time off.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Ok.  Time off is difficult.   PTO includes holidays.   Makes it hard to plan time off

Room patients,  preplan, get records

What is the best part of working at the company?
My coworkers and the cafeteria. Great salad bar!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper management is awful! They do not care about lower management or their staff.

Work environment is very busy. It's a rural community. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Goes by really fast and there's always something to do!

I truly enjoyed my career at Jone's Memorial Hospital. I was employed as a Per Diem Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant. This gave me the opportunity to work as few or as many hours that were needed. There are opportunities for growth and advancement there. I'd still be there if not for a life threatening accident in 2020.
