I should start out by saying that I am a college student from PA, trying to find work to come back to DE for the summer. They offered me a FacTime interview which went fine. I was told that the next step was a phone interview. The day and time came and she never called. I gave her 15 minutes and called her and there was no answer. I called 2 hours later and left another message and I still didn't hear anything. I didn't hear anything until I called the main number and told someone what happened.

Secondly the start up cost to work for this company is ASTRONOMICAL! You have to pay for fingerprinting/background check ($65), an independent contracting license ($13), a drug test ($28-$32), DMV check ($10), Defensive driving course ($13), a 4 hour training in Wilmington (2 hours just one way for me) that was NOT A PAID TRAINING nor do we get reimbursed for milage, as well as the expenses of gloves or anything you would need to work for your clients, plus so much more. 

Thirdly, I was told there was a supported employment program in Sussex County, DE, I was excited because I did this type of work in PA last summer and it was so much fun and $22/hr. Here your regular pay is $11.40/hr and the supported employment was $12/$13 an hour. That's not even the worst part either! I started paying MORE MONEY for certifications/classes through the company to start being employed in this part of the company too and just a week or so ago (started in May) I was told that the supported employment program is NOT EVEN IN Sussex County! So I wasted ALL of that money for no reason and I can't do anything with the items that I paid for. 

Fourthly, I was told that I would be working full time and I got a whopping 10 hours from this company. 2 hours a day Monday through Friday. Needless to say I have spend more money than I have made this summer.

And lastly, due to the lack of hours I had to get another job (at a restaurant which I ended up not staying at because I was promised 25 more hours, WHICH I DID NOT EVEN GET, because it was an unsafe situation for me being with the client) Anyway, it was interfering with my first client that I had at 10 hours a week, and my supervisor told my client that I would no longer be on her case! When I simply told my client and my supervisor that I had to move some things around. This lead to my client texting me to drop off her key because I was basically fired. I was SO UPSET and crying because I had never been fired for no reason. Turns out that it was a "miscommunication" (not sure how me moving some hours around lead to me getting my case taken away) but more importantly my client was mortified because she thought that I knew. 

Rant done. I just DO NOT recommend anyone goes to this company. It is disorganized, and you will be severely underpaid and underworked.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Overall, it wasn't a bad experience and the support from my clinical supervisor was helpful and insightful. However, while I enjoyed different aspects of being an in home Case Manager, the pay structure and the ancillary liaison relationships with other agencies within the interdisciplinary care teams , could have made the job more purposeful, instead of the same old huberistic attitudes, regarding overall knowledge of policies, protocols and not understanding how to best utilize my outreach and healthcare system knowledge, based solely on my lack of " professional standing". Nonetheless, it is a good first job for a BA/ BS level graduate, learning different aspects of casework and how to work with different disciplines across the healthcare landscape. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There were some aspects I found , could be augmented, to ensure talent retention such as limiting the amount of travel for ISCH Case Manager staff, and train staff as to better assess and navigate health systems and support resources, to eliminate unnecessary interventions that can lead to hospitalizations and/ or creating less client independence and proactively, and to utilize staff knowledge and ability to recognize potential problems with resources to avoid potential crises, etc. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall,the clinical Supervisors and Human Resources team , was very proactive to try to assess potential occupational hazards . However, some aspects of the interdisciplinary communication, regarding the client resources and psycho- education that sometimes needs to be part of the secondary and primary health navigator approach, instead of taking " matching orders" from State vocational counseling staff , who in spite of having MSW or LSW level education, don't have the same knowledge of the health system , and to utilize staff who have hospital and healthcare facility experience, in this faction , because attitudes reflect culture,not simply credentialed talent and having leadership who encourage healthy conflict to foster creativity.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Over, it can be very rewarding work, because you get to meet many different people, from different spectrums of the health system and the needs demographic that challenge your abilities as well as your understanding of the overall care and consumer landscape, to improve your knowledge and strengthen your sense of resolve and resilience, as a field advocate.

My experience at Kaleidoscope Family Solutions was brief but eye-opening. I worked there for just over six months as a Recruiter. In my opinion, this company may be a fit for those at the very beginning of their careers or those seeking a slower-paced role in retirement, but I found it lacking in support and long-term growth opportunities.

During my time there, I observed that employee recognition outside of one’s immediate team was minimal. Despite being with the organization for half a year, it didn’t feel like there was much effort from leadership or other departments to foster a sense of inclusion or learn about their team members. As no one remembered how to pronounce my name or announce my birthday when all the other offices made the announcement.

Compensation appeared to be on the lower end compared to industry standards, and performance-based raises did not seem aligned with the actual contributions of roles that weren’t directly related, such as recruiting. Despite receiving positive feedback on my work and meeting expectations, I didn’t see that reflected in any meaningful advancement or compensation review.

I also found that communication from leadership could have been more transparent, especially during times of uncertainty or operational issues. Requests for tools and support often went unanswered, which made it more difficult to perform effectively.

In terms of management style, I felt there was a lack of clear direction and advocacy from my direct supervisor. While some employees may thrive in a hands-off environment, I think new hires or those new to the industry might find the lack of structure challenging.

The physical office space I worked in also presented some challenges. In my opinion, it was not well-maintained. There were persistent issues with cleanliness and maintenance that were brought to leadership’s attention, but they remained unresolved during my tenure.

Overall, I think this company may suit individuals looking for a temporary stepping stone or those who prefer minimal oversight. However, in my personal experience, it was not the right environment for someone who is highly motivated, proactive, and looking to grow within an organization.

I've been with Kaleidoscope for almost six years. While the pay and benefits may not be the strongest part of the job, the people are what have kept me here. I've considered leaving several times because of the challenges that come with being a 1099 employee and not receiving benefits or reimbursement, but I always stay because of the incredible work environment.
The individuals we support are amazing, and the relationships among staff, supervisors, and management are truly exceptional. In Centre and Blair Counties, we have a fantastic team where everyone works well together and supports one another. It is honestly one of the best work environments I've experienced in my entire working career.
What stands out most is the leadership. My supervisors are supportive, approachable, and genuinely care about both staff and the individuals we serve. They advocate for their employees and do not tolerate disrespectful behavior toward staff, which creates a positive and professional atmosphere. Knowing that my supervisors have my back makes a huge difference and is one of the main reasons I've remained with the company for so long.
While compensation and benefits could certainly be improved, the supportive culture, strong teamwork, and meaningful relationships make Kaleidoscope a rewarding place to work.

I applied with Kaleidoscope Family Solutions and was asked to come in for an interview with one person. When I arrived I was told my interview was with someone else. This is called a bait & switch. I was offered the contract position immediately after my interview. Before the interview process I paid over $40.00 in fees to acquire background checks, etc for them. I accepted the offer for contract work with the understanding that there was required training the next week. 

The following week I attended the mandatory training that did not provide me with the appropriate training on how to work with a special needs adult. The trainer rushed through the training and did not play any of the training videos. 

The first red flag was when I asked about billing for the time spent on the large amount of paperwork, goal setting & research for the client and was told that I cannot bill & will not be getting paid for any admin work. 

Upon the completion of the training as the group was leaving the trainer informed us that we did not get paid for the 4 hours that we sat there and would not be getting paid for 24 hours of required training.

I have since sent several invoices to the company without any reply or acknowledgement of the outstanding invoice. 

Do not apply to this company. They are not ethical in their business practices and are taking advantage of their contractors and putting their clients with disabilities in danger by not appropriately training their contractors.

KFS is a for profit provider agency that uses independent contractors to work in the field. KFS is run like a staffing company because the it's parent company, Delta T, is in fact a staffing company. KFS over promises hours to DSP to make money and then treats them as interchangeable. KFS underpays it's corporate staff as well even though this business is extremely profitable with little over head since they use independent contractors. KFS has one revenue stream which involves them taking money from the state to provide the service, paying their contractors and taking the difference, usually 40-60 percent of each hour worked goes right to line the coffers of senior management. KFS claims to make a colorful difference but my time working with the corporate office has shown that this is merely good marketing and they will not hesitate to back track on that if it effects their bottom line. I have resigned from this job due to it's mission and vision not being accurately reflected in the companies day to day tasks. If you enjoy maintaining hours and 'growing the business' then this may be the job for you. If you actually want to help people for the same salary or more go somewhere else.

They lump your pay together sometimes causing you to have no pay one week. It took almost 6 months for them to get me into an actual job so I could get paid. Unpaid training(their training website didn’t register half the lessons I completed so I spent 23 hours unpaid doing 7 hours of training work… just for the coordinator to end up doing the lessons for me), and you pay for the background checks with no reimbursement. no word about the “sign on bonus” I was supposed to receive. Management answers you whenever they feel like it… if at all… they pull clients whenever they feel like it and take forever to give you them. I had a concussion for a week and a half and they took away a client of mine and then cut my hours with my second client causing me to not afford my bills. The clients they have are only interested in getting their bang for their buck(not that I wouldn’t in their shoes but there’s a lot that genuinely don’t need extra care, they just take it because their insurance covers it.) 

I think the staff at Kaleidoscope mean well, but their support for their Independent Contractors is limited. Some of these cases are pretty demanding and it would be nice to have more support for the CI professionals. I have worked with Individuals with Autism for the last 10 years so I understand how necessary it for behavioral professionals to be supported by client coordinators. In many cases I feel that my skill set was much greater than the client coordinators that assigned my cases. 

You are also not compensated for all the additional hours that you put in on this job (paperwork, ISP meetings, and transportation to client locations) this is a huge hindrance because it takes a rate of 15 dollars an hour and brings it to just around minimum wage. I value my clients and their families, but to my own financial detriment. The compensation just does not cut it.

Good work/life balance. 

Bad everything else. Retention of employees is very low here, so if you like meeting new people....you definitely will here. People are hired and fired daily. 

For sales people, the commission structure is poor unless you work for the parent company, Delta T. 

Hardest part of the job is in dealing with the lack of organizational structure, and knowing that we're actually not the best client for our customers. 

Best part of the job is the diversity of employees. This is the first organization I've ever worked for where there is a wide array of education levels, ethnic backgrounds, and professionalism. Dress styles vary by department. Professionalism varies by role/level.

Being here, I have learned that I can survive any work environment. Get ready and prep yourself..... this place is a zoo.

I loved my clients, and regularly drove an hour or more to provide services to them. Because of my strong background, and experience working with dual diagnosis clients, I was utilised to bring on clientelle that we labelled "difficult. I was manipulated by the manager, and lied to on a daily basis to for her plans. I was blackmailed to to take on clients that I didn't want. I heard a conversation that wasn't for me to hear that I would be denied clients if I didn't do what management wanted. O have many more situations to relate if anyone is interested. I only care about the clients. They deserve better.
