Most of the individual demands made on employees are reasonable, even if they are a little annoying, but as a "universal banker" you are expected to hold too much information in your head at once. Policies are updated often and it can be hard to keep up, especially when updates are unclear.

People mostly only come into a physical bank branch when they are having a problem or want to do something complicated, so while routine transactions are perfectly simple, much of what you handle on a day to day basis is frustrating. There are a lot of elderly customers who are either very confused and require a lot of patience, or incredibly grouchy and entitled.

The job is like working in an office while working as a cashier at the same time. There are lots of emails, paperwork, meetings, and phone calls, but your tasks are also regularly interrupted by clients arriving in branch. This can make it hard to finish anything, and every client generates more work to do once they leave. Keeping track can be frustrating and overwhelming.

The manager at my branch was great, but the entire back office/administration is really unhelpful. You are also not well trained. You are expected to learn mostly by reading and rereading densely written policy. 

This seems like a decent bank to work at, but not a great fit for anyone who is not already interested in or familiar with banking. You need a lot of patience as the company is pushing more than ever to have meaningful conversations with and build relationships with our clients, who can often be quite a handful.

The best part of working at Kearny Bank was the user friendly technology.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The politics and bureaucracy. Upper management was not supportive. Typical corporate culture. Very little training and tools to succeed. No directive. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture was toxic. There was a lot of demoralizing coaching and always fear of retribution and job loss.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Started out with morning huddle, then review reports, completing reporting deliverables, team observations and coaching, daily internal audit operational tasks, sales calls and prospecting.

Kearny Bank is a great place to work at, it is a 2nd family to many and like any family it can have a few that are not happy. On the overall, everyone gets along and I have never seen anyone here not lend a hand to another co-worker. The management is always trying to find new ways of showing their appreciation towards the employees. We get PTOs instead of vacation, personal and sick days which are nice because you get to use them for whatever they need to be used for.
I recommend Kearny Bank to all my friends whether it's for a career opportunity or  a financial institution. I am not only an employee, but a customer as well.

Great company with a great vision . Culture is diversified and innovative . Company truly provided necessary tools to be successful

Minimal stress . Hours are great. Management will assist you as needed and provided necessary  support at every level

Excellent work environment goals are attainable . Great team work and organizational structure at Kearny .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Weekly sales huddles , daily operations that all universal bankers can assist with . System is easy and Kearny provides excellent training to exceed at your role .

Depending on the branch you work at it, it can be very slow or very busy. Their policies are never 100% clear or across the board even though they claim they are. Corporate is willing to make exceptions/bend the rules for certain customers and certain employees. They seem to have no problem firing hardworking employees and retaining dead weight who are 'their friends'. There's a giant rift between corporate and branches, don't expect corporate superiors to care. I've seen them fire a lot of long time employees and hiring a lot of people from other banks.

Not only was it a great place I worked for 14 years, but honestly, the company helped me break my shell and get my feet wet in the banking world. The company also helped me get through some tough times, and even in many instances where my job seemed jeopardy, I am grateful that the company gave me chances to make up, and I flourished. That was why my heart broke when I left recently to search for what was supposed to be my dream job.

The coin machine is annoying. Also having to print and file 3 copies of everything.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Some people love it, some like it, some hate it. I liked it enough but wasn’t given full time and that’s what I needed.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Same old same old every day. Come in open the bank take customers and phone calls and take deposits and make withdrawals.

Company is going through changes. The company acquired Clifton Savings Bank which was not as profitable as predicted. Now there is no overtime at all. They are closing offices and making people reapply for their positions. They have no incentive plan however expect you to make a fixed number of referrals per week. Human Resources wants no parts of internal issues. They will fire somebody before they have to deal with a problem at an office. If you have an issue at work they will look at you like you are the problem.

• Female ran 2nd business from her desk - everyone knew - good for her
• I worked 2 jobs while my co-worker took care of her mom - bad for me
• I was a COG -  zero awards or recognition 
• No vacation til after 1st yr - bad for me. Female said she made plans & needed a week after 3 mos - good for her (also pregnant within 1st yr)
• Wasn’t that bad - free bagels, rolls, and coffee in the morning
