This position is good for the job experience. You will be figuring a lot of technical aspects, it is a learning experience. Make it what you will.  There is no standards or a system in place in certain areas.  IT does not take control of their systems, this is a major issue for what my review of this place is. Management is ok, there is a lot of office drama. Favors nepotism,  you are contractor a very high chance of not getting FTE, its worth a try though. You are there to help and be part of their "team" until they cancel your contract. Contractors are expendable. Good luck finding replacements that will care. Some Senior Techs needs to have a clean mouth, but they have job security so it’s whatever to them, there is a point where it is getting tiresome listening to it. A few act professionally. 

Weekly quota of 53 total computer refreshed. If we do not make that quota, the whole team gets fired. Numbers are more important than quality of work. But I guess this was implemented because previous teams were slacking off, just my guess.

Their naming convention for computer hostnames needs a revamp. It is highly depended on AD. If no one updates the location or forgets to, it will be a hunt to track it down. Many have suggested this is a problem, management knows but shrugs it off.  They are using Service now which they just added last year. This can be used along with proper naming to track computers.  
Have a system in place in service now to track hosts names, location, user etc. They haven’t implemented this, other hospitals did. Uses a Dymo label they turns yellow and falls off after a few years.  The solution is to put clear tape over it, SMH.

WOWs are deteriorating, the plastic cover breaks off, monitors are broken because nurses wipe the screen, keyboards and mouses are sticky because again nurses wipe it. Maybe get some keyboard covers? Or use a different brand. Again they need to take control and put their foot down on these departments. You break it once, we will replace it once, you break it again you get charged. Why is recurring problems like zebra printers are missing or zebra scanners not turning on or goes missing, the solution is to send another email off. Find a way to LOCK IT DOWN.

A lot of old stuff especially in research centers like old dells sitting there, it’s a KSOM area so their department purchase their own stuff. It is what it is, we replaced what we could. They have systems that use linux, users reformatting the computer to whatever they like. Terabytes of data while KECK is providing, 8 gigs of memory on desktops 256 Gigs of space, while laptops are 16gigs, or some 8 gigs on laptops. Not enough processing power. Just be careful in these KSOM areas. Software that cannot be found in the IT software folder. We added what we could.

4 people in desktop engineering to test these systems? Backend is very unstable.

What I learned I that the grass isn't always greener on the other side especially when fooled by a very well known name as USC

Management is vindictive, poor, unethical, unprofessional, demanding, ruthless, rude, careless.... shall I go on?

p.s only one manager out of many is the most understanding and most helpful from the bunch he himself earned the lonesome star under management.

the culture is ridiculous, the plan and motivation from the company is to work as a team but in reality, the people segregate themselves within themselves. EVS employees will rumor each other, neglect, tease, belittle other EVS employees

The hardest part of the job is trying to do your job that you already know how to do, and in the middle of it you are told you're not doing it well enough or too slow or move you from the great work you've been already doing. The constant aggression your peers and co workers have randomly against you, the inappropriate language they tell to each other or behind your back or even with audacity to tell it in front of you to another person in front of you. Favoritism, Bias, Preferences. Incoherent, not understanding. 

MANAGEMENT does not care what you have to say or explain, its their way or the highway, because they know best, is there a reason to this? absolutely not, just because they have experience does not mean all experiences are the same. don't treat a person wrong just because the person before that one mistreated you or offended you.


most enjoyable part of the work is just knowing you work for USC as a big name in the industry but other than that, not even staff beyond your staff is welcoming, just horrible in general.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Not anything I can think of, I really wish I could say something. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Coworkers are toxic and gang up on you. If  your Clinic isn’t that busy they will constantly ask you to cover somewhere else which could be many miles away from where you actually live, they will constantly ask. No union so management can pretty much do whatever and you really don’t have a choice when it comes to covering other places or being sent home if not needed. Watch what you say and who you talk to because someone is always going to tell and when they do, it won’t be accurate. The benefits are very expensive, I’ve seen companies that pay a lot more into the health care for their employees. This place is pretty stingy with that and time off benefits. If you do apply, find a position that says it’s union. You’ll thank me! The docs are rude and snobbish, they treat you as if you work for them as if it’s their own private practice, it’s not! Not all docs of course but the few ruin it for everyone. The Medical assistants think they know it all. Beware! 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, toxic toxic. They expect you to learn everything in one week. It’s ridiculous . 



What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Everyone gives you the cold shoulder. Silent treatment if they have already decided they don’t like you. They will speak another language just to exclude you.the doctors are rude and make you feel like you’re an idiot.

Keck Medical Center of USC has been the best job I have ever had.  I have learn so much from working with such professionals that I am ingratitude towards them for life.  Although I am no longer a Trojan, the Trojan culture will always be remembered.

A typical day would be very busy!  But that was the fun and exciting part about the job.  I learned how to deal with pressure and people at the same time.  I learn the importance of a team due to the nature of the job --it's a hospital so peoples lives are at stake!

Everyone there was about helping each other and working as a team.  Management had a challenge to undergo with the size of the team and the responsibility that comes with have peoples lives at risk if the team is not up to par.  However, I was always treated with courtesy and a joy.

The hardest part of the job consisted of managing it all today.  There was over 200 applications we supported, over 300 calls a day in a 8-10 staffed 1st shift, 2-4 staff 2nd shift and 1-2 staff 3rd shift.  However once you get use to the flow, once you pick up on the system or establish a system for yourself that works with the team, then it's one of the most enjoyable jobs out there.  It was a privilege to work with the Health Sciences Information Technology Team.  So much to learn from them as well.

Be effective, not busy to thrive in this environment. Time is our most precious asset and you can never get it back after it is lost.  Track, manage and consolidate your time. You need to know what contribution is expected of you. Know what the organization expects from you as a professional. Know who you need to be in order to make that contribution. Make your strengths productive. All strong people have strong strengths. All strong people have strong weaknesses. Don't focus on your weaknesses. Focus on your strengths and lean into them so hard that you make your weaknesses irrelevant. If you're weaknesses are related to character and integrity you need to solve those issues. There will always be more good ideas than there will be time to execute them. First things first, second things not at all. There are no second things.  Every single moment you have a first thing that you can and should be doing if you want to operate at your highest level and be effective. Establish boundary conditions in your daily work and interactions (i.e. impeccable: grammar, customer service, follow-up & follow-through). Overall, a great place to learn & grow.  

The Community Benefit and Outreach department is a new department at Keck Medical Center of USC. As an intern, my main responsibility is to help this department develop. During my first days there, I realized that they did not have a database to keep track of all the grants, sponsorships and other funding given to the not-for-profit organizations. As a result I proposed to create a database in Microsoft Access to make the award giving process more efficient. Currently, I am developing this database but I also participate in the different community outreach events we have within the organization such as toy drives and health promotion campaigns. Besides the knowledge I have gained from this department, I have also learned about the different departments within a big medical organization.

In general, it is a great environment with friendly co-workers always willing to help. The organization tried its best to integrate all the workers in activities to interact with each other.

Keck medical center is a busy academic facility that performs orthopedic, plastics/reconstructive, urology, neuro, gynecologic, vascular, thoracic, ENT, ophthamology and transplant cases.  You are frequently taking care of high acuity cases that require invasive lines/monitoring.  You work under medical direction with and anesthesiologist, either 1:2 or 1:1.  Most anesthesiologists allow you  to practice quite autonomously, coming in for induction only, while there are others who like to micro-manage.  This was one of the more difficult aspects to deal with while working at Keck.  Another drawback is there is no OB or pediatric unit.  Overall, you gain good clinical experience taking care of sick patients, however regional, spinal/epidural experiences are lacking.

A typical day at Outpatient Keck Medical Center was very productive and busy. It would start off stocking and making sure every patient room had everything it needed. I would get there 2 hrs before my shift started to practice scanning on myself to start memorizing the protocols and improve my skills. Throughout the day it would usually be busy with scanning patients, watching lead techs scan. In between would take used instruments to sterilization at the main hospital, or stay busy organizing and helping other imaging departments. The hardest part was seeing the patients in unbearable pain through procedures. The most enjoyable part for me was interacting with the patients and staff. Everyone I met during my time has inspired me and given me a purpose.

I worked for this company for about 8 years. The best part of the job by far were the patients. They were wonderful! Originally it was a great place to work until the last year and a half when there was a change in management. Since then the culture has changed. I left because I felt unsupported by my managers/managers did things I felt were based on favoritism(friendships with other employees) and not based on skill or knowledge/twisted things to fit their narrative/would say things and then deny they said them and in my opinion managed by intimidation. For me this created a very hostile and toxic work environment. Truly sad because this used to be a great placed to work and I used to love working there.

I was able to learn quite a bit from my co-workers and management. This aided me in doing a good job and keeping my records up to date. I was being crossed trained by the other hospital that was located in our office in order to help with the completion of duties when necessary. We all worked as a fine tuned machine helping and getting along with each other.
The hardest part of my job was the commute to Los Angeles from Ontario, CA. I had to catch the Metrolink train at 5:20AM and didn't get home until 4:30 or 5:30 when I had to work overtime.
