Kemba Financial Credit Union

Responsible for home loans, personal loans, car loans, sourcing funds to the proper accounts to build client wealth and expertly advising financial futures. Through this position, I have been taught professionalism, multi-tasking, accountability, meeting deadlines, sales, adaptability and how to work with a diverse set of clientele among many other skills. I thoroughly depend on the supportive work environment that my employer provides. Our management team is a panel of incredibly talented individuals that encourages their employees and leads by example. Our workplace is based off of the "Oz Principles" where we identify the situation, own what we are able to do and follow through with the task at hand no matter the issue. The most difficult part of my job is not being able to help everyone, our company is regional; not national and not having much room for advancement due to the seniority in the company. I do enjoy the people I am able to help and create a positive impact, my employees and the mentor ship we are provided on a consistent bases.

Overall, KEMBA's work atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. Every member of management in the ITMC side of things is friendly and approachable.
The job can be stressful at times as a teller, as you're the one who often has to bear bad news about checks or loans or whatever else. However, for the most part, while situations can be challenging or complicated, the job doesn't make me feel depressed or stressed to the point where I want to quit. And, once I'm off work, the job does not follow me home. It's often fun to figure out different issues and get them solved. I feel that the tellers here should be paid more than they are, especially because they are the faces of KEMBA who most directly impact public opinion of the institution. We do get bonuses though, which I appreciate.
Overall, I do recommend this job for anyone looking to enter the banking industry, as I have already learned a lot in my short time here. I think KEMBA is a great company to work for with lots of growth opportunities.

KEMBA FCU provides a lot of great growth opportunities. I started with this company having absolutely no experience or education in the industry and was able to obtain a corporate position after 3 years. Management truly cares about your development and growth and helps you get to where you want to go.

The culture of the company is very kind and friendly as a whole. KEMBA takes personality into consideration due to our strong values of great member care and service. I have only come across a small handful of individuals who did not represent these values; overall, this company is full of good, hardworking people with good intentions and positive attitudes. We do many fun activities throughout the year, including our KEMBA Cares Day, which is a day in October where the whole company volunteers at various places in the community. It is a great company to be a part of.

They bring you in under the pretense of doing more but use you to their advantage to hit sales numbers and goals, then threaten to take away incentives if you don't sell extra products such as life and disability protection through a third-party vendor, that members don't want in a time of inflation and already tight budgets across America for families. Don't fall for this, they claim to encourage you to grow but higher management has serious control issues because they feel intimidated that they will be seen as incompetent in their jobs by employees that truly know how to build rapport with members and make strong relationships. All they do is sit at a desk listening to phone calls being made by member service reps and sales reps to judge you as to what you did wrong instead of everything you did right. In times of stress, they don't seem to care about what is going on personally or at work, they just want these third-party products sold so increase the bottom line for their monthly or quarterly incentive bonus. 

KEMBA FCU is a friendly work environment.  The "small feel" creates a caring work environment where event the CEO will know your name.  The expansion of the company gives you a "big company feel" with competitive, yet fun work environment.  Upper management at KEMBA is the BEST that I have seen.  They are really on their game.  They truly exercise "open door" policy and are willing to coach and train, even from their high positions.  They don't mind getting in and "getting their hands dirty" so to speak, and they don't ask you to do anything that they haven't or wouldn't do their selves. They are leaders by example, which is really hard to come by.  The only thing I'd say that is hard to deal with working for this company is the work/life balance and its competitive nature.  The hours are long which makes family time very limited.  It is very competitive in goals, with little to no excuse for vacations, illness or slow times.  So if you are not the "best of the best" sales person, don't even bother.  If you are, this would be a great place for you to grow and be successful!

-Typical day at work is answering phone calls, helping members with their accounts, busier through certain times of the day but overall manageable, not stressful 
-I did not have any banking experience whatsoever, so I've learned quite a lot about finances which is a win-win 
-Management is there to support and encourage you, doesn't feel like anyone is breathing down your neck 
-Workplace culture is diverse, accepting and caring. They are there to help and include you. 
-Hardest part of the job would be having to deal with difficult phone calls sometimes 
-Most enjoyable part is knowing you have so many ways to help members and make their financial lives easier/more efficient, makes you feel like you are able to actually make a difference in someone's life 

A typical work day at KEMBA would start off balancing the ATM machine and processing the Night Drop transactions and getting the teller line prepared for opening the branch for the day. At my time with KEMBA I learned to open accounts, how to maintain the accounts as far as filling out disputes for member's, ordering cards, stopping payments on both paper and electronic, depositing and withdrawing cash and checks,creating loans and many other services. KEMBA was a great place to work, filled with caring co-workers and a fantastic managemet team.I would say the hardest part of my position at KEMBA would have to be not being able to assist someone who had taken a financial loss from fraud checks and the most enjoyable would have to be when I was able to help them save money and make life easier for them.

If your manager likes you they will have your back and help you achieve.   I think that's called favoritism which is not uncommon in any company. 
Personal friends of management elected to the Board of Directors, which is not unheard of. 
Former compliance officer for the credit union is now
working for the company that audits the credit union. 
Co-workers were nice but would throw you under the bus to keep 
their own job. 
The guy at the top only knew what his managers wanted him to know keeping other things in the dark  giving the impression that all was well in the company.
HR was no help in trying to help resolve issues if you had a problem
with management, she made things worse for you, especially if your manager and her have been friends for years.  I never felt like I could trust HR.
I did enjoy learning the things that I did.   It was a beautiful office.

I'm a teller here and a basic day in the life is logging on and gettin the job done :) I have VARIOUS forms of support all day if I need help at all. I believe KEMBA really does value its associates just as much as its members if not more. This is not the company for workplace drama or any type of negative talk about our folks. It's very diverse and inclusive all around. The hardest part of the job is probably having the longer hours first starting out, but they do accommodate to what you can work with as well as encourage time off for yourself. The most enjoyable part is being able to interact with our members and make someones day even just in the five minutes i may interact with them!

I really enjoy having a hybrid schedule where I get to work from home for the majority of the week. Majority of the time I work from 8-5 and typically am able to leave right at 5 or just after. My managers are very flexible with the schedule and always work with us if something comes up and we need to take time off unexpectedly or take a longer lunch for an appointment. I will say, however, there is not quite as much flexibility if you work in one of the branches, but for the most part management will try to work with you. My coworkers are great people and are always willing to answer questions and step in and help when needed. My managers genuinely care about me as a person while also working with me to attain my career goals. The benefits are great and they frequently run contests to win prizes. Overall, I’m very happy with my employment here!
