Kin is a great place to work, but almost every year—like clockwork—they conduct mass layoffs due to over-hiring. Without warning, both new hires and tenured employees are let go, blindsided by sudden job loss. I’ve been here for a long time and have watched this cycle repeat itself year after year. Management always gives the same justification: it’s the “right move” for the company, and we need a specific number of agents to keep operations running. Yet, the people making these decisions are never the ones affected—their pay remains untouched while 10–20% of the sales team is left jobless overnight.

If you had asked me when I first started how I felt about working here, I would’ve raved about it with pride. But now, after years of witnessing this pattern, I wouldn’t recommend Kin to my worst enemy—especially in today’s economy. The constant uncertainty of job security makes it impossible to feel secure or valued.

I’ve dedicated years to Kin Insurance and have seen too many loyal employees cast aside. If anything leads to this company’s downfall, it will be the way it treats its backbone—its sales and customer service teams. If the entire sales team took just one day off, the company would struggle. If the CS team did the same, I’m not sure there would be a company left at all.

To upper management—especially those reading this: 2022 was a great year for Kin, with leadership that almost felt ideal. However, the current VP of Operations is driving morale into the ground, making this once-great workplace unbearable. It’s time to listen to the employees who keep this company running before it’s too late.

While the product (sales) side was praised highly, was organized and had structure, the company did not support the claims side enough. As a start-up, I felt confident in my ability to help build up the claims department, but slowly management stopped listening to any of our recommendations and with the influx in claims, it was nearly impossible to present new ideas/or even build up the department. Management made changes and the new vendors were awful, the new system was awful, and we still had no policies or procedure - It turned into a free for all. Customers were extremely upset. Due to the inefficiencies I had 3 different direct phone numbers and 3 completely different email addresses. There was not one part of the job the made any sense. Ultimately, I had to leave. It sucked because I really wanted to work for the company. I really wanted to like the position and even move up but I couldn’t keep working under those conditions. I went to HR because I thought that would help but it didn't. I know it is still bad because I have had multiple adjusters (current and former) reach out to me for recommendations to my current company. I’ve also seen that just about everyone I started with has left. 

Kin has such a good idea and even though it didn’t work for me, I really hope they figure it out. 

Strange experience here it feels very unprofessional environment. During our training they put us straight to take calls for a different position totally unrelated makes me think they are short staffed and need workers but have trouble keeping them. They should focus on the job that we applied for and were hired for. Everyday felt unorganized and often they had wrong information on what they were teaching. They have unexperienced licensed agents leading the training course who often had misinformation. I’d recommend they let a more experienced agent teach a class here for better success rates. Didn’t have proper training on how to use their systems set us up for failure they just want to get you to phones quick as possible Maybe focus more on education first 

Investigate the “why” behind our pain points during training - such as “hot seats” and not rushing trainees simply due to “timeline” - to see why most of my training class was in fear to speak up and why CERT was painted as a “tougher” part of training where “it’s normal for some people to not make it to the end.” As well as the gaslighting and redirecting of complaints about treatment of fellow training members . On the surface, very tech-forward and “accepting” but ultimately fast-paced and unforgiving (i.e. attendance/points policy).

Very unprofessional, they promote people without experience and ignore company policy on promotions. The meetings are unprofessional, with the CEO and upper management swearing like sailors in group meetings. There is a major lack of communication where the supervisors do not tell the workers about any processes changes and procedural changes until you make a mistake not knowing what the correct process was changed too. This company will be sold within 5 years. This company is who you know and not what you know. Management likes to tout how much they know and experience, the fact supervisor has no clue and manager is trying  to make a name for herself, look good and move on. 

Definitely provides a needed product for the FL P&C market, rates generally competitive except for manufactured/mobile homes. But be prepared for a woke, cancel culture that is intolerant of conventional, conservative, and rational  thinking. Constant identity politics and nonstop chatter and memes on intercompany Slack communication channel. Egregiously intolerant of any opposition to their hypocritical "diversity mindset." They can spew their viewpoints, but oppositional traditional norms are silenced to the point of intimidation.

I really enjoyed my time at Kin Insurance. The company’s culture was inclusive and welcoming—I'll never forget receiving a Pride T-shirt during Pride Month, which made me feel truly seen and appreciated.

That said, the product could be challenging to sell. Home insurance is a highly competitive, price-sensitive market, and customers often prioritize getting the most coverage for the lowest cost. This made the sales process tough at times, especially in hard markets like Florida.

I do think the expectations placed on sales agents were high, considering the difficulties of the market. However, Kin has since expanded into other states, which may help balance out some of those challenges moving forward.

Its not for me. You are Micromanaged and constant monitoring even when you are not on a call. The training is not long enough as you are placed on the phones on your 2nd week there. Had I known that I would not have taken the position.  

went through a two-week training with. /Workbooks.  was judge on a 150-question test.  Then we started the phones for the actual job for no training.  Just 1 or shadow sessions for a hour or so.  Everything we needed to know was in a book.  After 2 weeks on the phone was terminated WITH OUT ANY WARINING.  Be careful and know what you're getting into.
