Working in the Inpatient Detox facility can be both rewarding and challenging. The pace is highly unpredictable — some days are slow with long periods of waiting, while others involve multiple admissions at once, creating a very demanding workload. Technicians / CSWs essentially perform a “two-in-one” role, handling nearly all aspects of the intake process, including admission protocols, drug screenings, EKGs, scheduling provider appointments, writing care plans, and even picking up medications from the pharmacy.

While the work offers meaningful opportunities to support clients at the start of their recovery, the environment can be stressful due to limited management support and communication. Feedback from the Withdrawal Management team is not always acknowledged or implemented, and interactions with certain providers have, at times, been unprofessional, which can make the job more challenging.

Overall, this position provides valuable experience and the opportunity to make a difference in clients’ lives, but it may not be ideal for those seeking a consistently structured or well-supported workplace.

Pros: Meaningful work supporting clients at the start of their recovery.  Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multiple aspects of inpatient detox care.  Chance to build connections with clients and make a positive impact on their journey.


Cons: This company does not prioritize employee mental health or well-being. Some providers have been known to make inappropriate remarks regarding staff mental health and even dismiss concerns entirely. There is also a lack of transparency regarding PTO payouts — I personally only received payment for my final week of employment despite having accrued more.  Management tends to take advantage of employees who give extended notice, often overworking them despite clear communication about personal or mental health limitations. If you decide to resign, I strongly recommend giving only the standard two weeks’ notice to protect yourself.  Additionally, the organization’s handling of employees struggling with substance use is concerning — rather than providing support and resources to help staff recover, they often resort to termination. For a company serving individuals in recovery, this is disappointing and counterproductive.

A Typical Day at Work
A typical day felt unorganized and stressful. Expectations often changed without notice, and there was very little support when challenges came up. Communication was unclear, and it often felt like you were left to figure things out on your own.

What I Learned
I learned how to adapt quickly under pressure and work independently when guidance is lacking. I also learned the importance of clear communication and good leadership . Unfortunately, by experiencing the opposite.

Management
Management was inconsistent and often dismissive of concerns. Feedback wasn’t constructive, and it was hard to feel valued or heard.

Workplace Culture
The culture felt negative and draining. Morale was low, and there was little sense of teamwork or appreciation for employees.

The Hardest Part of the Job
Trying to stay motivated in a place where support and organization were lacking was the hardest part. It was discouraging to feel undervalued and unheard.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job
Honestly, the most enjoyable part of the day was clocking out and going home.

Krossroads is a great place to work for those who are looking to grow, adapt, and develop both personally and professionally. The environment consistently pushes you out of your comfort zone, helping you build resilience and independence. One of the key strengths is the opportunity to work without being micromanaged, which fosters a strong sense of ownership and self-motivation.

While communication and leadership structures could use improvement, these challenges also present valuable lessons in navigating workplace dynamics and becoming more self-reliant. Those who take initiative and show personal growth often gain recognition from leadership.

expect a poor work culture between the team, and unnecessary negativity. they do nit train you, and in my experience, will curse and scream at you when you ask for help.  hr is then a joke, and will make you draw gingerbread men for conflict resolution after verbal abuse. some people are great, but the general experience is poor. they will hire someone for a certain position and will not fulfill the contract, and will spring another position on you and gaslight you to do the position. they will string you along with slightly less then what you deserve due to the morale of the work, and the connection to the clients. do this work elsewhere. 

Industry standard is 20 billable hours but Krossroads wants 30 which is a challenge with no-shows. The management doesn't always communicate changes and expectations with the staff- having some written standard operating procedures would help this. They do give staff some flexibility with hours/working at the office depending on your role. Certain management sometimes uses negative communication.

Pay was excellent, worked with my schedule, management is unprofessional, unorganized, do not follow there own SOP and if your not in management your not allowed to bring your child to work. They do not do anything about staff who harass and gossip about other staff. They only give bareminimum health insurance with no 401k or retirement plan.

Management is disorganized and does not communicate well with other departments. The workplace itself is toxic, lots of gossip, favoritism, and neopotism.  Upper management does not want to hear what you know, even if it is correct. They will not consider others viewpoints. Have never seen company policies and have never had to sign off on receiving any policies. People here follow their own rules. 

Nepotism and favoritism blatantly obvious. No support. Does not honor contract regarding pay raise. HR is a joke with absolutely zero communication. The office staff have attitudes and are not welcoming. No teamwork. Nothing enjoyable about this experience.

Typical day at work: It was totally disorganized. I had little to no training. There was a severe lack of communication between departments, There was no accountability by leadership. Workplace culture was a "mean girls" environment. I received punitive supervision. There was favoritism towards certain staff.

This has been the BEST company that I have worked for. I went from working for a toxic company who didn't care about the work they do to working for a company that not only cares about their patients but their staff as well! There are many changes that occur in the WMC as it is a newer facility, but management has been helpful and supportive during these changes.
