LIBERTY Dental Plan

Liberty is a good place to work.  There is a lot of growth so work load is challenging.  Maybe a problem for some to keep up or to receive proper training.  Executives are available and allow for employee input and ideas. Owner has been known to hand out surprise cash bonuses to entire departments, including non - exempt employees. Great holiday in office celebrations that are organization wide - great for promoting team work. Liberty has good benefits including company paid dental insurance  including family dependents. Privately held so less pressue to always make decisions based on shareholder value - this would appear to allow for happier customers but not always due to gov't. regulations - Liberty does a great job with compliance. Performance reviews are hit or miss due to growth of business.  Some redundancy in different department's functions or need simpler, logical workflows in some areas.  I learned that growth is not always the best thing for a company.  Most enjoyable part of the job was working with folks from other departments to increase productivity.  Learned that business in Sacramento is very political so steer clear of unethical people who appear hip, slick and cool.

Liberty Dental Plan is a growing company with fully paid benefits (medical, dental and vision). As with any growing company, you are going to experience growth pains of overtime and being stretched. The Claims Manager and one MSR Supervisor are the only two in a management position that walk in integrity. The MSR Director and three newer Supervisor's (one was the former trainer) and trainer seem to be the MSR's Directors puppets as not one of them walk in integrity, much less in any level of professionalism and trust. 

The one MSR Supervisor walks in a high standard of integrity (a spirit of excellence) showing no favoritism and refrains from engaging in gossip. When she promotes someone it is  based on their skills, overall work ethics and integrity.

The Claims Manager also walks in a high standard of integrity (a spirit of excellence) showing no favoritism and refrains from engaging in gossip. She treats her staff as individuals and not as a mechanical processor. She is the type of manager that sees the best in people and works towards developing then to be a better all around person. She believes in team work and working together.

Nothing stands out about the company.  It’s run by someone who is entirely too petty to grow up and acknowledge that she needs help.  The turn over for supervisors are extremely high.  It’s actually kind of scary.  In my 1 year and 3 months, I witnessed 3 supervisors and atleast 15-25 employees leave.  It’s a smaller company, not like a Humana or USAA so understand this is a lot of permanent full time employees to lose in a year.  The Tampa center is absolutely filthy.  Decorated in roaches, food particles and coffee grinds, this isn’t exactly the best place to work especially with Covid, sadly, on the rise.  The cleaning crew even vacuumed up water from a leak in the bathroom and did not mop.  Toilets are constantly clogged and the bowls themselves are not placed securely on the ground.  So please don’t plop.  The trainer is amazing and a few of the supervisors are actually very sweet and helpful.  It’s the manager of the center that brings down the entire atmosphere.  She seems stressed and unable to regain any control.  

Strong "family" oriented business, meaning if you are not related to anyone inside, you are often overlooked with no chance of promotion. Team are lazy and management do not care. Often enough, I see new faces every other week or two weeks. Co-workers stress levels are high and ponder to leave. Parents, they do not care if you need to get home to your baby, overtime is mandatory (weekends included for 4 hours). Stay or get written up or fired. Reporting to HR will make things much worse. They are paid to be nice but not helpful to you. NO FLEXIBLE work schedules, unless you are related to management or someone they really like. I shared multiple strategic plans and never once has it been considered even when others have encouraged me to share with management because they strongly believe they are great ideas. Indeed potential applicant, you are valuable, your skills/education are worth to be put to good use, and should invest in a business that would seriously invest in you. Take it from me, safe yourself and continue to search for that right opportunity.

I started off as a customer service rep, taking in bound calls and assisting members with their dental needs, as well as Dental offices. 
I then worked my easy up to Help Desk Coordinator, where I was assisting the reps with any questions and walking them through their needs. I became the trainer and trained  all the new employees, as well as reps that needed additional claims training. I then was hired to be a Supervisor. My job was to make sure my reps were making the goals, handling calls correctly, and assisting the callers with all their needs. I did monthly reviews and encouraged my team to become better at what they do. 
I enjoyed working for Liberty, until the management changed and my ideas and were no what they were looking. 
The health benefits were great and the 401 k plan. 
Just wish management would support their employees better and acknowledge them for all their hard work .

The only thing worth making Liberty worth working at is the benefits. Medical, Dental, and Vision is covered at a union fee per month. Every workday, management expects you to answer high call volumes and make you adhere to your published schedule. That means if you're scheduled to take calls for 2 hours, management expects you to stay on the phone line and you get penalize if you have to get off for a bit. There's a team chat for member services, to answer all questions employees have. When you're dealing with angry customers because they get over charged from the poor services they receive by their dentist, they will ask to speak to a supervisor. Once asking for a supervisor in the group chat, they will go silent or tell you that you have to email them so they can respond back, which rarely happens. Upper management claims they care about us, but only care about hitting their service on us, instead of actually making sure there employees are doing fine.

Some supervisors were demanding and did not even respect new employees. I felt unsafe and uncomfortable to work. 2 supervisors in specific are who I felt safe going to and asking questions. Your job shouldn’t make you uncomfortable and make you feel unsafe to ask questions. Why get frustrated and take it on the employees just because upper management is pressuring you. Doesn’t look like a leader to me. I also respected the trainer who trained us. Left because it wasn’t worth it. They tell  will have work life balance and want to control your schedule and if you don’t work overtime then they chose for you. Also sup told me if I didn’t clock in right they would lock it to where I wouldn’t get paid. I don’t think that is okay at all. 

This is a good job, it has more good than bad. However the bad things are really bad. We are micromanaged. When we go on break, lunch, restroom. We are even limited on how long we can be out of the desk and everytime we leave we need to change the status on the computer. Our day is predetermined by breaks and lunch so we HAVE to clock out at EXACTLY those times otherwise we get penalized. If we have lunch at 1:30 and we get a call at 1:28 , we HAVE to take it, but also get penalized for going past the assigned time. Micromanaging is very extreme but good work perks. We have excellent dental, goo health insurance, good opportunities within the company, we have company dinners, we get free food ocassionally. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people are mostly great. Lots of experienced, motivates employees.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of a direction. The company is obviously going through multiple changes and that can account for their rudderless direction, but it leadership does a poor job of communicating or even commiting to a business direction.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
As mentioned, the people are mostly great, but leadership is lacking.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was mostly hectic with constantly changing or moving deadlines and directives.  But that isn't necessarily different than with other similar businesses that I have been employed.

When i first started this job two years ago they promised a lot of things that they are not able to keep their word on, this job has little to no space for promotions, they are starting to hire new people at higher paying rate then "claims rep" and then decline the raise to the workers that already know what they're doing, everyone is quitting including supervisors and this job doesn't care to fix the issue and build a better working environment instead they just hire new people every month to level out with everyone who's quitting. if you need a decent paying job for a sort period of time this may be the place for you but if your looking for advancement opportunity's and a trust worthy job, look elsewhere.
