The majority of my excitement about this company is because of my coworkers. The team that I have worked with has become a second family who supports one another and works through problems as a team!
HOWEVER... The management of this company is questionable. Many are intimidating, and they often create their own problems. I often felt that I was doing their job and completed tasks outside of my job description. 
The pay is unfair and was ultimately I left this company. After my years of experience and promotion, there were new employees getting hired for the same rate that I was receiving. The pay that workers received never matched the amount/quality of work that they did. In addition, there were no tips. When confronted about this issue management told me: "because you don't deserve them." I found this incredibly disappointing since I know how hard my team works. Lastly, the pay varies greatly between locations. For example, there are cashiers making more than supervisors at other locations. 

I really hope that Lancer will fix their priorities. If there was better communication and fairness in pay, I would have stayed at this company forever. 

BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG... This is an INCREDIBLE job that offers a variety of opportunities! I hope you will all have a better experience than I did. 


There is a great deal of turnover with the company in part, because of the demanded work hours or, off season, lack thereof. But also because of the way many employees are treated or mishandled by management. This includes unfair or skewed pay (after working three years with the company, several inexperienced workers were hired at or above my pay), the practice of using tips from events to pay salaries for managers (instead of giving it to the people who worked the event), and the lack of accuracy with paychecks (I was shorted  at least $150 my last paycheck and I informed them but 2 months later, no word). The job was highly physically demanding, especially factoring in that there were no official breaks regardless of the work hours, unless you wanted to be a whiner and take an unpaid 20 min break (there were days I worked up to 20 hours). in the colder months, it completely drops off, several months having absolutely no work available. The co-workers were the very best a person could hope for and we generally banded together and got each other through.

They made the job seem like it would be fun and the days would go by fast. But the time drug on, we never got breaks, and every little thing was made into a huge issue that shouldn’t have became an issue. I ended up quitting not AFTER I got thrown out of a moving golf cart, but when people started the “he said, she said” high school drama. I kept my cool after I broke my tailbone and got a mild concussion from hitting my head on concrete. But that talk behind your back then get treated bad after people run their mouth isn’t for me and I left. I did NOT get paid enough for that. If you decide to work at the OKC ZOO. Stay OUT of golf carts. Not only did I have an accident (not my fault) my boyfriend got a windshield to his face (not his fault) and his coworker got ran over by the golf cart (his fault) I do not recommend getting in or near one. They say they do golf cart training but, whoever does the training needs to try harder.

I enjoyed working for this company because they gave me the freedom to move to new locations.  I was able to try Business and College Dining.  I was able to learn how to manage big catered events from the corporate Chef that came to the site to assist me.  I grew a lot and learned a lot.  The hours can be long some days but if you stay well organized you can have a good work/life balance.  The cons to working here is that a lot of the employees hired as kitchen staff, cooks, prep cooks, etc.  do not take their job seriously and think they can just go find another job elsewhere if they don't like it.  They tend to be lazy or tardy a lot so that puts pressure on me as the Director/head Chef to have to do their job because Lancer was very poor at finding additional help when I needed it.  I ended up performing a large catered event almost all by myself because I had staff that had recently quit or been fired and no replacement was sent.  This was very stressful and frustrating.

I was a ride operator. Expect lots of guests every single day. Most guests and co-workers were friendly. The training was ok. Managers are a bit intimidating however they are unorganized. It's a good way to make extra cash over the summer but I will never work here ever again. They leave you with minimal shade from the sun and I seriously was fried. I developed some health problems while working there and after the summer. Because of this, it's the worst job I've had. It just wasn't for me. A change I suggest is rotating every 20 mins and have 3 people (because there's 3 zones) on break at all times to do sweeping or bringing water. After 20 mins, they push the rotation. I'd also recommend more shade for the ride operators. If you want to work here, it's better to work as those food people. But if you have no problem being in the hot sun for at least an hour, go ahead and apply.

If an employee feels underpaid or undervalued, or if there are limited chances for skill development and career progression, it can lead to dissatisfaction and a lack of motivation to excel within the role. These factors collectively contribute to a job feeling like an unpleasant and unrewarding experience, impacting one's overall professional and personal well-being.

I worked for them for a summer and after a month and a half of working there I was never paid. Told them if I didn’t have a check I would walk due to not being paid on time. I had to got to the state to collect what Lancer owed me plus back pay. I was in management (Black shirt) and worked a outdoor cart and it was very stressful. They hire as young as 16 years of age and I felt like I had to babysit. Very bad company to work for and it’s a shame the MN Zoo uses them to run their catering food/beverage when they treat their employees so poorly or don’t pay them.

Over worked and under paid employees that work in a high paced environment and told to work faster with no brakes of free meals of any kind and  if you complain about the hour or being over work, you'll be told to leave or stop biching! If you get cut with a sharp object the manager makes fun of you for having a boo-boo! If you share an idea to make the job easier they think you're lazy and don't want to work. We had a wedding where all the food was pushed in big warmers to the wedding in the middle of the park. The money is ok and you can live off of it, but not worth it for what you go through. You're on your legs all day and if you complain about that you're accused of being lazy and not wanting to work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working at a zoo was pretty neat.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As a teenager, I was talked down to and berrated not just by customers but management too. Frequently left alone in the kitchen for hours to do everything myself because management would just leave

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. We had 100+ degree temperatures during summers in a hot kitchen, no A/C. In the two years I worked there, our regional manager brought us a dusty fan and frequently spied on us with a camera facing our workstations to make sure we were working. We could see it moving

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, unnappreciated. Miserable

Iny situation I worked at the OKC zoo. They were very strict about what you could wear and most the time it had to be black when working/walking across the whole zoo. They had weird energy towards my crew. It felt like jail. They treated our whole crew like scum and we were always on our toes due to other departments being stuck up. They were also so concerned about "cutting hours back" even though we should've took time to make sure moveable catering furniture was stacked safety and correctly and due to that negligence I had a table fall and hit me in the back of my head. They immediately cut my hours down to one day a month
