Legal & General America

A typical day of work at Legal & General America for me was revising or creating new forms.  Most of my day was dedicated to the creation of new company forms; however, as state regulations changed, I also revised forms in productions, as required. I also dedicated a good part of my day to send bid requests to vendors for printed items, such as envelopes, and brochures.  At this company, I learned different softwares, such as InDesign, and Output Designer,and became familiar with the Adobe creative suite. I have no complaints about management, I was fortunate to work for a exceptional and professional team leader.  When it comes to co-workers, I think I had the best team players, and co-workers a person can ask for; we treated each other with respect and saw each other as family members.  The hardest part of my job, was to keep up with all the states changes and the forms current and updated.  The most enjoyable part was working on different projects and having the opportunity to learn multiple skills.

call center is fast paced. Daily calls with agents, customers, BGA's and financial advisors.  Reviewing benefits in older contracts, checking on paid to date status. Problem solving when funds are not applied correctly.

I would say 70% client calls. 10% escalated calls, Agent calls 20%. In between calls you are asked to do tasks, like update beneficiary information, put PDF files into the right department and fill out requests from clients for the Task Team to complete. 

calls can average from 75-120 per day.  


Most enjoyable part of the job is getting a great review and having your direct manager tell you, the company appreciates you and what you do. 

Hardest part of the job is others people lack of professionalism. Showing up late, calling in sick. doubles your workload and if you make errors , you get a write up.

LGA is a nice place to work, there are a lot of talented people here.  But the talent goes unnoticed. People here seem to get promoted on a whim not by what they actually contribute. If you stick around you’ll get promoted. No real strategic vision for the average employee. They do have a lot of free food and swag cause nothing says good job like free cupcakes. Benefits are killer. Seriously, second to none in that department. I love all of the learning opportunities LinkedIn is a huge bonus I just wish I had more time to actually use it. I like the wellness  activities, although they use to be a lot better. We have a lot of activities but they don’t seem as focused it’s almost too much. I just wish we didn’t get pulled back into the office my home setup works better.  All things considered it’s a really good place to work. No place is perfect and they do seems to really care about their employees. 

There was no typical day.  I learned a great deal at this job.  I handled all the Board Meetings to include catering, entertainment, travel logistics for the Board Members, board books, etc.  I worked with very bright people and took advantage of soaking up as much knowledge as possible.  It was a very diverse work environment, which was also a plus.  I enjoyed problem solving with customer complaints that were directed to the Executive Office.  The most enjoyable part of the job was how much I learned and the vast diversity of my tasks and responsibilities.  The hardest part of the job was the poor communication and the mixed messages from upper management and the amount of office gossip that seemed prominent from the higher ups to the lower ranked employees - it created a somewhat unprofessional environment.

Legal and General provided excellent training while I was there. The reason I am no longer with them has to do with the management as well as the running of the department. 

In this department the team is responsible for answering over 100 phones calls a day all while providing excellent customer service and correct product knowledge.  The Manager that was there when I started was not able to manage her team properly and therefore people were not sharing their part of load.  This would put a strain on those of us that did our job. Since I have been in a management role, I could not understand how she could continue to allow this to happen. 
When that manager left, the new one that started tried to implement new policies, however the staff that was not doing their job prior did not follow that and no consequences were given.

Knowledgeable IT Team: Being in the IT field, I've had the pleasure of working alongside some of the most knowledgeable individuals. Everyone seems to have a deep understanding of their roles and responsibilities.

Employee Well-being: The company genuinely cares about the well-being of its employees. They are always looking for ways to create opportunities for advancement and growth.

Training Opportunities: Legal and General America provides track hours for training, ensuring that employees are always up-to-date with the latest skills and knowledge.

Company Activities: There are numerous company activities throughout the year that employees can participate in. It's a great way to bond with colleagues and take a break from the daily grind.

Employee Feedback: The company values feedback. Throughout the year, they conduct various surveys to gauge employee satisfaction and gather suggestions for improvement.

I have been with LGA for 5 years, and I can honestly say that I love working here.  The company's mission to provide affordable life insurance is an admirable one, and visions for growth and innovations are exciting.  There is definitely a work hard mentality and our department is always challenged to find new and enhanced ways to complete our work.  

Even though 2020 has been a challenging year, the company has continued to improve its communications and inform everyone of business performance, what's happening in other departments, and wellness and safety updates due to the pandemic.  I am grateful to work for a stable company that has allowed us to work from home!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great benefits and Coworkers but management is discriminatory and evil- deceptive and it wasn’t just from my experience but several others. Management is protected and there’s nothing you can do besides quit or get fired. They will start picking on you if you don’t fit their profile look or kiss up attitude. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Extremely unfair no rules apply to management also no help from management and if you need help it will be counted against you

Legal & General America at one time was chock full of motivation, and offered the promise of advancement, however over the years has cut back to such an extent that the NY office has closed and we are all working remote.  The days are busy, which I enjoy, and I have constant communication with other employees and the field.  It is sometimes difficult to get answers from management as they are not trained as such, and I generally have to scout around to satisfy the needs of my customer,  Oddly, the ability to get the needed info provided a challenge for me and I always get a really good feeling when I am able to help and get an answer to a client, despite lack of management knowledge.

Maintaining primary ownership of cases throughout the underwriting process which requires engaging in frequent communication between life insurance general agents, underwriters and other internal resources. 
I've learned time management, to be a team player, risk taker, to multi task and complete deadlines.  All my coworkers are team players and friendly. The hardest part of the job is going back home, my commute.  Most enjoyable part is to know that we are part of a company that makes a difference in every family every day.  We can provide a better and stable future for these families.
