The management has changed recently before I started working here.  Others who have been working here longer said they received more in depth training from the previous management, when I told them how my training went.  The training was very poor.  The managers seemed like they didn't want to be bothered and only referred you to your supervisor.  I asked them questions but they got ignored.  The supervisor who I had, just became a supervisor after working there for one year.  I would ask to be shown things multiple times, however I did not receive any guidance.  I was only left to just figure it out myself or with an “I’m not sure” answer.  They also call the individuals they support “consumers” which I thought was very odd coming previously from a “person first” type of organization.  Some of the families were very aggressive and disrespectful.  The pay definitely is not worth all what you have to put up with.  The caseload they start you off with is 41 individuals which is very high, since they are so understaffed.  They also push you to bill a certain amount, which felt very pushy and could tell some people would exaggerate how long it took them to do something just so they could meet that productivity requirement.  They push you to do extra so they can get the productivity bonus.  If you do not bill enough, they will try punishing you by making you go into the office to work there and then will terminate you.  This has happened to a few of my co-workers.  I have mostly worked from home and have had to go into the "consumers" homes for the meetings.  I would consider this an entry level job.  For benefits, they have a very high deductible.  They have good PTO and are flexible with hours.

Very toxic work environment with extremely high turnover rates among crisis workers due to management being extremely unprofessional, confrontational and unsupportive.  Management does not keep their verbal promises.  "Policies" keep changing at their convenience without any discussion or input from employees.  

Shifts are understaffed for the amount of patients to be seen during each shift with a lot of pressure to quickly evaluate patients, which is very stressful.

Job training is very poor with inexperienced staff training new employees.   A lot of job stress from inadequate training which results in crisis workers quitting very frequently after a very short period of time.   I would NEVER refer any family or friends to this crisis center or recommend this place.

Some full time employees lost accrued vacation time because they were unable to find own shift coverage to get vacation time approved or due to a change in policy on how much you can carry over saved accrued time. 

The residents are the best part about this job. Making them smile on bad days and helping them succeed in life is very rewarding. The coordinators that run the houses believe they are superior and entitled. My coordinator, fresh out of college and same age as me, talked to me and treated me like I was 12. She also bad mouthed the clients as soon as the door closed and also spoke to them as if they were also 12 years old. They get into staff and resident business and then make secret phone calls and gossip to other coordinators about staff and residents. Petty and unprofesresident My coordinator literally gave my residents drug tests just because she felt superior and was excited to have a big girl job. Seriously disgusted by their choices of who they pick to run these houses and keep these residents/staff safe. Pay is horrible. Not nearly worth the amount of work you have to do for 12 hours straight.

In the support coordination positive, it is a great starting point for your career. You are always learning something in the field of ID and there are always opportunities to grow within the company. This job provides flexibility and values work-life balance for their employees. A typical day at work involves scheduling meetings, calling families, and emailing service providers to make sure all services for our individuals are in place. The hardest part about the job is that the caseload but you have supervisors who are willing and able to walk you through the process. Working in the field of ID you may not always see the payoff monetarily, but you gain a sense of pride knowing that you are advocating for a population that normally do not have a voice.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
PTO policies are generous. No weekends or nights are required for non residential jobs.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of direction and vision. Management doesn’t care about performance objectives because the county reimburses them for any losses. All they care about is that you show up on time, act like you are busy and do what you are told.  Leadership and creativity are discouraged.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is paternalistic. The attitude is that they know what is best for you and don’t rock the boat.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I put one foot in front of the other and keep on the same path every month.

I was an intern at LVF for a little over a year. It was a very good experience overall. Although the unit I was in was mostly run by interns, which subsequently forced me to learn most of the work on my own through trial-and-error, that feeling soon dissipated or else was replaced with a sense of responsibility (in a good way). LVF provided me with a hands-on experience that I will forever remember. One caveat,clients rotate quite often, therefore, chances for long-term treatments are slim, though not impossible. Staff is very kind, friendly, and more importantly - helpful. This is one thing that had helped me most through rough times (and there weren't many).

LVF has a strong sense of community - it is truly a company making a difference in people's lives. It is nice to work for a company that helps such under-served populations. People at LVF love what they do. They work diligently for the clients they serve. The management staff is supportive and creative and willing to listen. There are opportunities for growth within the company, and they are flexible with work/life balance.

Supports Coordination is an all-encompassing role. Managing waivers for the autistic population—handling everything from Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and Annual Review Updates (ARUs) to weekly monitoring and constant updates—while carrying a grueling caseload of forty clients. The work felt profoundly vital and rewarding, delivering real progress and meaningful change in people’s lives. That said, the reality is overwhelming, with ridiculously low pay that forces most coordinators to hold second jobs, extremely high turnover, and minimal supervisor support. 

The only reason I left was due to relocation to a nearby state (too far to commute, that is). The Clinical Coordinator provided support and useful supervision, unlike the Program Director who was an LCSW - which means she was clueless about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I had worked with a recent college grad who had entitlement issues - which is something that I had not encountered in 20+ years of work experience in the field.
