I started with Luminos Hospice in January 2024 as a contractor, and within just a few months, I moved into the role of HR Director—and was then promoted to VP of HR. From day one I was welcoming into a field I have never had experience in before. I have no medical background nor experience with hospice prior to working at Luminos, and yet I was treated no less than as I was integrated into the fold. My background is in music as a professional singer, and initially came in to just do music therapy for our patients part-time. I was later asked to help run a program initiative called Light The Way, that would offer multiple therapy avenues to provide for the patients and their families. 
Being able to work with all aspects and Personelle in our line of work has been the most rewarding experience. From working with marketing to help make our presence at our facilities consistent and faithful, to doing therapy alongside our hardworking nurses and aides, to weekly communications with our leaders, it has all been such a great experience. 

This is probably the greatest job I have ever had.  In my younger days I loved the emergency department and the adrenaline rush but now I enjoy the compassion and empathy I can show to families as they make the journey with their loved ones toward the end of life.  My managers are amazing people who are always willing to help and are genuinely concerned about my well being.  The culture is one of love and support.  We know we work in a field where our patients pass away and with that we build each other up and offer each other that shoulder to lean on when we need to talk or just be.  The hardest part of the job is losing those patients and their family that we have come to know and love and the most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know the patients, families and our coworkers.  What a truly beautiful group of people with more compassion and empathy than I have seen in a long time.  

I have about an hour commute but this helps me get focused on who I will see today and their individual needs. I speak to my team and find out if there are any urgent needs and of course those come first. Routine spiritual visits come with lots of joy through the tears. Playing the guitar and singing favorite hymns or whatever our people like. Mostly good ole country music in our neck of the woods. 
There is an unspoken underlying respect among our team. Each of us has confidence in the others abilities and professionalism. 
The hardest part is helping meeting families that need hospice but are scared of the H -word. Getting them to understand the reason they are saying "no" is because they don't "know"
I love seeing the joy I can bring to a patient and family through what I do

A typical day is seeing 4-5 Hospice patients, completing charting, ordering medications, admissions are usually pre-scheduled and you actually have help to see your routine patients if you have an admission. We have an on call Triage nurse during the week and an amazing weekend nurse that allows us time to reconnect with our families and have downtime after the work week.  We have all the equipment needed to perform our jobs and our patients never have to go without supplies/nutrition/care.  Luminos is BEST! The foster a positive family office atmosphere and you know everyone around you is working just as hard as you are! So blessed to call Luminos HOME 💛💙

To work for a company that is always there for you day or night! To work with people who show true love to patients and coworkers. Getting to have bosses who come and help out when in need. Having nurses aides social workers chaplains all working together is such a blessing! 

To see all volunteer services take place, dog, family stories written down and more. Brings such joy to our patients and families.

The best thing about working in hospice is me knowing I helped my patients live the best life. To let them feel Loved not just by family but by many more people (including myself) brings me joy! I am selfish and only want them to get the best. Nice thing to know all my team players are just like me.

I’ve been working in hospice for a number of years. I had to step away because the previous company I worked for was more concerned about the bottom line than they were patient care and employee satisfaction. I was so burnt out and when I left, I swore I was never coming back to hospice. Enter Luminos Hospice. I started PRN but quickly went full time.  The leadership at Luminos is hands down the best.  They care about their staff. They do what they say they are going to do. If they have to make a change, they explain their reasoning. They understand that when their staff is happy then their staff will do good work. Luminos is the best place I have worked.  I am truly blessed. 

Luminos aligns with my values.. need I say more? Is hospice stressful? Absolutely! But with the phenomenal support, generous PTO, compensation for cell phone use, reasonable case load to provide optimal patient care, no weekends or on call (unless in a pinch), along with the generous PTO really promotes work-life balance & decreases burnout. Having the opportunity for a medical FSA account is also a game-changer, amongst many other things. Luminos really sets the bar high in their standards of providing excellent patient care along with showing their gratitude towards employees. Let me tell you, Luminos is the place to work! I really can’t say enough positive things. :)
