MEDcare Urgent Care

As a prior employee MEDcare practices in a very undesirable manner. Other than the unjust way their treat their employees, patient care is not on the top of their priorities. At the end of the day patients are looked upon by how many tests were run and how much money they can make off the claim. They will run several unnecessary tests during your visits (x-rays, urinalysis, pregnancy tests). The employees there work without no given break (some may be injecting medications without anything to eat in the past 10-11 hours, out of their 12-13 hour shift), which at times can mess with their judgement. Most of their employees are uncertified and should not being doing more than half the medical procedures that take place. As an employee I could seek medical care at our facility, but I still choose to go to my PCP or Nason's. Please check your bills and make sure all the tests billed were ones that were done and that they were filled in  a timely matter. Several employees including doctors have left for several of these reasons and more. There is no security and constantly firing employees of minuscule things and they do not give warnings or writes up and fire employees on first warning. They will make you do things you are not certified, trained or qualified to do, because they are constantly under staffed. MEDcare does not care about their patient or employees on about how much they can bill the patient or their insurance company so we must spread the word.

Typical day for a provider is to see upwards of 80-90 patients by yourself, especially during Flu season. Some days you are partnered with another provider and each see about 50-60. The clinic has the same hours everyday and allows patients to check in until the last minute before closing, often causing you to stay late. Patients can be rude and demanding sometimes, but that is every clinic.

Pay is better than some areas, benefits are decent, and you earn PTO pretty early after starting. 401k match could be better its 50% up to 6% of pay. Work schedule is 3 days a week which is honestly very nice.

The other providers are typically good people and willing to help/support each other. Most of the support are also good people who really value teamwork.

Management is okay, but overall the company is more about money than good patient care or making the workload reasonable for clinic staff.

Most of the doctors were good to work for but most of the employees I worked with were lazy and left their job to other people. Some clinics are understaffed and management could not care less if people are overwhelmed. Management plays favorites and hold some employees accountable for minor issues but do not discipline other employees for being late, missing shifts or rudeness to patients. The doctors care about patients but management and corporate seems to treat patients as dollar signs and doctors as the means to get money. Doctors and honest employees are treated with disrespect and do not get the credit they deserve for achievements. You are not really given an option for a break during a 12-hour shift, and I went many shifts without eating. There used to be more people in management and shifts used to move smoothly, but a corporate takeover got rid of the structural system that was working for the employees.

I would not recommend working for this monkey-ran "company". They do not care what you have to say, they do not respect the employees. They listen only to what they want to listen to. Fairness and just does not exist here. I seen 200-300 patients a day by myself during Covid influx. How negligent for them to make me do that. You can sleep on the job, go shopping, or the dmv while on the clock, you can even come back after hours and sit in the parking lot to clock out late, wash your clothes at the clinic, paint your car in the parking lot, but trying to help out by teaching employees how to do their jobs and teach new skills at the desk=frowned upon. Let go, without notice. Not wearing a mask=let go, without notice, without warning. No questions asked, lots of accusations from corporate on the words of employees that I wouldnt trust to wash by feet. Worst respect I have ever come across as a provider

I enjoyed working here and loved all of my co-workers.  They were upbeat, happy, and always willing to help out. A typical day was always very busy and very fast pace.  I learned about all of the Dr.'s in Anderson, the in-depth of insurance policies, and what its like to work in an ER setting.  My co-workers were awesome and I always enjoyed working with them all.  The hardest part of the job was working 13 hours by yourself in an ER setting, and having 20 things going on at one time.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working with happy people and that made the job go by fast and easy to work with.

Everyday is different from the last.  I learned how to triage patients, draw blood, start IVs, give injections, run labs, wound care, suture removal, set up for pelvic exams and lacerations, EKGs, etc. Management has changed three times since I started, but I have had a good relationship with each of them.  My co-workers have a variety of medical backgrounds and they are all more than happy to pass along the wisdom of their experiences.  The hardest part of the job is working 13 hour shifts without a break.  The most enjoyable part of this job is the variety of knowledge and experiences.  I like the challenge of being prepared for every possible patient condition.

In my time at MedCare Urgent Care, I have learned multiple things such as conducting DOT drug screens, blood testing, medication uses and routes, and caring for infants. My co-workers as well as management were very intricate in my education as a Medical Technician and helping me become a stronger medical professional. The hardest part of the job was overcoming large patient volumes with minimal staff available. The most enjoyable part of the was the appreciation shown by patients after they felt that they have been properly cared for.

A typical day at work involves working a 12-14 hour shift with little to no allotted time for breaks. I have learned that this company abuses the health and insurance system to turn a profit. "Management" is a non issue because there is none. The managers that do not quit are relieved of their duty. The turn over ratio at this medical establishment is unbelievable. The staff that they hire are barely certified to flip burgers but with shorter wait times than the emergency departments and smiling faces the patient doesn't know any better. The hardest part of the job is being employeed by MEDcare Urgent Care.

1) There are false promises regarding pay and growth. The job description explicitly says: Employees are strongly encouraged to seek additional promotions and $19/hour is easy to accomplish within nine months (often sooner).

However I was told by the DO that that stanza is only applicable to those who obtain an MA or CMA. This should be updated because that is a suable offense.

2) A few providers are too stuck in their own worlds and feel they work ABOVE you. Most providers however are nice to work with.

3) Good job thus far, just a few hiccups here and there. I think people could be nicer. And I wish there were more opportunities for overtime.

MEDcare in Spartanburg is not a place I would suggest you work. Management is literally horrible. Manager is never there & hardly ever answers your text or calls. When you have an issue arise, nothing is ever done about it. There are “favorites” who literally get away with anything. There are employees that leave for hours on end while staying clocked in. There are also employees who decide to watch videos on the computer instead of working. You don’t get a designated break EVER, you are to find time to eat and stuff on your own & you are expected to make it quick. If management was different, my opinion may be different. But as of currently, IT SUCKS!
