A typical day at work involves group activities and counseling sessions. One key lesson I’ve learned is that job security is not guaranteed, even with a strong work ethic. I’ve noticed that management often assigns challenging tasks, such as terminations, to supervisors from minority backgrounds. This can create the impression that the company benefits from the hard work of minority employees while profiting from their efforts.

Recently, a minority vice president was appointed to lead the clinical team and oversee terminations under the guidance of the personal growth vice president. This raises concerns about the influence of personal feelings in the termination process. While the focus appears to be on utilizing employees’ knowledge and expertise, there are worries that once their skills are no longer needed, they may be replaced by new hires who can be trained to follow directives, regardless of their ethical implications.

Additionally, the personal growth vice president is involved in position placements and has made promises regarding promotions. However, there have been occasions where these positions were filled by others without clear explanations, leading to dissatisfaction among staff.

The workplace culture is primarily composed of minority employees, with upper management being the notable exception. While the job itself is relatively straightforward, the lack of job security is concerning, especially with multiple employees being let go every few months. On a positive note, the flexible hours are a significant advantage and are greatly appreciated.

Overall, this organization is a masterclass in wasted potential. Leadership is reactive, inconsistent, and insecure—boundaries are largely theoretical, guidance is contradictory, Management avoids accountability like it’s a communicable disease and maintains professional boundaries in theory rather than in practice.

The admissions department deserves its own case study: Direction is inconsistent, authority is unclear, and leadership confidence seems inversely related to competence. Oversight is driven  by external influence rather than operational expertise, resulting in a chain of command lacking confidence and autonomy, creating a dynamic where responsibility evaporates while blame remains fully staffed. Capable employees carry the workload while ineffective management preserves appearances. Chaos reigns, questionable practices are incentivized, and stability is nonexistent. Employees are expected to display circ due so-let flexibility  to cover for management’s chronic inability to lead effectively, with little recognition for effort.

The admissions and marketing managers appear to have reached the peak of their careers long ago, and their bitterness toward capable employees further erodes morale and trust.  If you enjoy surprise plot twists, this may be the workplace for you.

On the bright side, you will leave with resilience, strong coping skills, and a renewed appreciation for functional organizations. Recommended only for those who enjoy character-building experiences and questioning their life choices before lunch.

While the work can be challenging—particularly in supporting clients who are struggling—the most rewarding aspect is the ability to make a meaningful difference in clients’ lives. Work flows not to much chaos, I learned what it truly means to be of service, the hardest and most enjoyable part of the job is watching the clients do a 360 from when they get there to when they leave. Come in cussin the staff when they arrive and thanking them when they leave. We provide a safe environment, our approach is loving and caring, person centered service. It is a beautiful place to work, and it is a privilege and an honor to work with my coworkers. 

A typical day here means adapting to constant changes and unclear priorities. Most learning is on-the-job, since training is minimal. Management is inconsistent, and communication is often lacking, making it a challenge to provide quality care. The culture is fast-paced but stressful, with frequent turnover. One thing to note staff are often encouraged (sometimes even pressured) to leave positive reviews on Google and here, which may not accurately reflect actual employee experiences. The best part is finding solidarity with coworkers in the midst of chaos.

I think this place has some really cool people. But management really is killing off their ability to get it going. The clinical director speaks to everyone as though he is the only one with a brain and the rest of them are dumb. They also try to underpay everyone below top management. There is a reason so many people keep leaving here... But if they got their stuff together and start treating their employees right, they could do great things for the area. I would say if they got a new clinical director with some sense of empathy and humbleness they would be considerably better off.

My typical day consist of morning staff meeting, Then I have a hour to complete paperwork or I might have a session with one of my clients. Next at 10:15 I facilitate my group which consist of my caseload of ten individuals in a process session for 1 hour and forty five  minute's. At 12 pm I take lunch , for that hour. Another meeting at 1pm until 1:30. Then I conduct another session for approximately forty-five to an hour. In closing out the day I complete notes and prepare for the next day.

My typical day at work consists of greeting my co-workers and the clients here with warm heartfelt love and affection. Depending on the day, we have Clinical meetings on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays (hybrid) to discuss client concerns. Afterwards, I may meet with a client before 1000; conduct my clients process group from 1015-1145 and lastly meet with individual clients. In between those times, I have to complete process group notes and individual notes, but I never leave work without interacting with the clients. 

Working here is a rewarding experience. Leadership is supportive and truly values the well-being of both employees and clients, fostering an environment of empathy and collaboration. Mainspring is a startup environment that comes with the typical pros and cons of a startup environment. The work is exciting and no two days are the same. Pros- being able to see work directly having an inpact on the lives of the people we serve and everyone really cares about what they do.  Cons- this would be for any startup- everything has to be built- there are no SOPs to fall back on or to learn from the start- everything has to be created and that all has to happen at the same time as operationalizing it and getting the work done. Benefits could be better.
