I was a part of the new grad program and by the time I reached 6 months I felt leaps and bounds ahead of where I expected to be. I was told by so many that it’s expected for a new nurse to cry all the time the first year due to stress and I did not experience this because the staff was so supportive. The program looked like a week of Epic charting training, then 2 months of every other week new grad classes, then once a month classes the rest of the first year. We got to rotate to different units for a couple months which made me feel a bit underprepared at first for ICU- because after a month of working I still didn’t know much, but I was glad to see the hospital and what other units do. The RNs who teach the new grad classes are AMAZING, I learned so much!
This hospital really encouraged me to learn and grow, and they provide what seemed to me a lot of classes for continued education (but I don’t have much to compare it to).

I frequently had different preceptors which was sometimes annoying but ended up allowing me to build a bigger network and see different ways of doing things.

The schedule during orientation was rough but they were very understanding if there was something important you needed time off for. Then normal scheduling was self-scheduled with weekends ever 3 weeks.

I was very scared to start on my own and felt like I needed more time but they encouraged me that I would do fine. I think the reason I was okay was because the night staff was SO helpful. They were always looking out for me and didn’t let me totally drown. I never felt bullied or put down, only supported and encouraged. My first week off orientation I had a 3-patient assignment in the ICU which I had only done once on orientation and it was with the help of my preceptor, but I did okay and really felt like an independent nurse after that week! I think the biggest safety issue at this hospital is ratios and there are a LOT of travel nurses, but I think that everywhere these days and I don’t think it’s because they’re intentionally trying to not hire people, it just is how it is at the moment. 
My manager was frequently checking in with staff to look for criticisms or improvements needed. They always encouraged writing safety reports so that changes could be made because they CARE about their patient safety. 
It was an awesome team to be a part of with a positive and friendly culture- and I would still be working there right now if I hadn’t moved across the country. I think with the lack of staff healthcare professionals all hospitals in the US are struggling to an extent right now so there’s only so much they can do about ratios. Some weeks were bad for everyone, other weeks people were being put on call left and right. Healthcare is just unpredictable and that’s not necessarily the hospitals fault.

Last note, the night cafeteria food is not good haha but they have a lot of Celsius options so that got me through. Day shift food is decent.

All in all would I work here again? YES, I definitely miss it. Hope that helps :)

A typical work day at Mary Washington Hospital would consist of a hard days work and dedication to the EVS department by helping out fellow co workers by coming together to make sure the day to day sanitation needs of the hospital was thoroughly met. The EVS management team at Mary Washington always did a great job with making it a priority to educate each employee on the safety measures that should be taken to prevent the spread of diseases, also infectious control practices were highly expressed on a daily basis. During my employment at Mary Washington hospital in the EVS department i've learn a lot about multiple different positions such as floor tech duties, housekeeping duties, and many other duties associated with different departments throughout the hospital. My co workers was always helpful and friendly to work with. The hardest part of my job was watching some of the patients and their family members deal with some trying situation and not being able to comfort them enough to eliminate the pain of what they were going through during those times. The most enjoyable part of my job at Mary Washington Hospital was being able to help others, meeting a lot of nice people and being able to give comfort to some of the patients and their family members through some of their trying situations

Instead of banking time off for vacation and sick time and like any other normal place that provides benefits having paid holidays off... you have Paid Accrued Leave (PAL) that has to be used not only for both vacation/sick time but ALSO holidays- you are reading that correctly- HOLIDAYS! If you work there less than 5 years you only earn 6.77 hours per paycheck; so. They don’t even give you a full days time per accrual.  

Benefits are available... pay is so low that if you choose benefits you can’t afford to choose a decent option and they try to force you to use their network of providers for everything.  I have worked at so many different places both making more and less than I currently do and I have never in my life owed for medical bills UNTIL NOW!  Yes, you read that right I work for a hospital and have hospital bills that are so high I have to have it come out of my checks with a voluntary wage.  

Low to no raises and doesn’t account yearly for cost of living increases.  I work for a hospital that won’t provide its associates with proper or functional tools and even furniture to safely and comfortably do their jobs (because it’s not in the budget).  They can pay for a new system that is overpriced and for the department I work in is really irrelevant and they can sponsor racetracks, sports venues, and baseball fields instead of taking care of their employees.

I have so many more issues but I don’t have all day and I’m sure not enough space.

Horrible place to work as a CRNA. Older anesthesiologists treat CRNAs like anesthesiologists assistants. One in particular is openly disrespectful and constantly reminds you he is the doctor and you are “just a nurse“. The nursing staff is not much better. The OR nurses are openly hostile to the CRNAs and complain we are overpaid. The floor nurses expect us to start their difficult IVs. CRNAs are only supposed to be called for IVs after their superuser has tried. They constantly write up the nurse anesthetists for being rude because we ask them to follow hospital protocol prior to calling us. 

CRNAs are employees of the hospital. The pay is good but only because the department has trouble recruiting and retaining anesthetist. While the relationship with the docs is not great, the primary reason people do not want to work here is due to the toxic work environment. Management is terrible. Certain staff members are treated better than others. They get the condensed schedules and higher pay. Management makes a big show of striving to be fair because staff has complained numerous times to Human Resources, but nothing ever changes. Most experienced CRNAs do not want to work here so the majority of new hires are recent graduates. Management lies and tells them they will get a condensed schedule within the year. They won’t and most leave once their contracts are up.

Management is there to make sure the staff is making money for the hospital, not there to make sure proper care is being provided to patients. Unfortunately, I have witnessed patients put in danger and even injured due to dangerous staffing ratios on the floor and unqualified staff in the operating room. At first this hospital paints a pretty picture, but once you scratch the surface its veneer begins to peel and the true nature of Mary Washington Hospital and its "leaders" are revealed.

I worked many years at Mary Washington Hospital. After COVID and witnessing the CEO's and managements' disregard for employee and patients' health I resigned. Proper protective equipment was not provide to staff even though it was available, just locked up and the managers were instructed to not hand out proper equipment and supplies to employees, to save them for emergencies. If a floor or unit was short-staffed, employees were encouraged to come to work even if they were sick or displayed symptoms of COVID, thus exposing a vulnerable patient population to this virus. Management receives a significant monetary bonus for high productivity scores even if these scores are gained by instituting employee policies which result in an unsafe work environment and patient care.

You receive excellent benefits and get paid very fairly. However, there is zero job security whatsoever. I was working for them for 4 years from home and they decided to let me go, stating it was due to the labor laws of the state I live in. However, when asked what law(s), they could not provide that information to me and demanded that I submit a letter of resignation. Why would I have to submit a letter of resignation if I am not choosing to resign? Shady company, especially the HR department. The same company with another job I held with them, they decided to allow my mother, who was the same level as me, to move to a supervisory position while I was out on maternity leave. Once I returned from maternity leave, they gave me 30 days to find another job or be fired and demanded I submit a letter of resignation. According to their policy in the employee handbook, if an associate is at the same level as a family member, one can not go into a rank above their family member as it would create favoritism. However, they went against their own handbook rules. They like to make up the rules as they go with their employees. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!

As a former associate of the Imaging Center for Women, I can testify that this is the most awesome place to work on earth!  

This office is located in a beautiful, stand-alone imaging center -offering digital mammography, breast biopsy, ultrasound and bone density. Highly skilled, fellowship trained (and yet still personable)  Radiologists who have a real passion for breast imaging practice here.  The front desk and imaging staff are incredible .  So fun to be around and truly give you the sense of working with family. They respect and support each other in so many ways, but more importantly - they do everything possible to always put the patients first. 
The hardest part of this job is dealing with patients who fear breast cancer.   
The most rewarding part of this job is knowing you have helped another woman through one of the most difficult times of her life. 
As far as management goes - these people are top notch from the highest level on down. Very kind and always make an effort to recognize your hard work or offer meaningful feedback to improve if needed.
The only reason I left this job, was because of a personal crisis.  I hope when my situation changes, I will be able to work there again.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I've worked at MWH for almost 27 years as a RN in the ED, PACU and now Case Management.   Of coarse there have been some ups and down with how processes were changed and managed but change is always hard and you never know if it's going to work unless you try.  I've stayed at MWH for personal reasons, I simply enjoy being here.   I have built relationships were I value each health professionals contributions.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Change.  Personally stress with the anticipation of change and new processes is always going to put a strain on someone's performance.  Trying to make sure I follow each step to ensure the outcome is productive, resourceful and has a great patient outcome.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A comfortable community of Health Professionals.  Multicultural and inclusive.  The organization tries to include executive staff events where staff can mingle and talk about their concerns with their jobs 1:1.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work 12 hr shifts.  They are long but working with a great group of nurses, doctors and other staff members makes for an interesting day!

Working on the hospice/oncology unit was an extremely rewarding experience. We self schedule so employees are able to choose the days they would like to work each month. Shifts are 12 hours long. The current unit manager and assistant unit manager are amazing and genuinely cares for the patients and employees. There is opportunity for advancement to CNA II. Highly suggest this position if you plan to attend nursing school. The hands on experience is great, the nurses are willing to teach you at times if they know you are in school and want to learn, and if you choose PRN you can work as little as one shift a month or as many as you'd like. Cons of working there is that it's a very stressful job. As a CNA you have peoples lives in your hands!  You can cause harm to these patients if you are not caring for them correctly. At times they are short staffed so it's difficult to give each person the care they deserve. Ration is usually 1:11 but if we are short it can be 1:16. Usually they will have the nurses help if this happens, but not all nurses are willing to help. You may be floated to other units to help if needed. 

I was a Manager in Environmental Services at Mary Washington Hospital. I was responsible for the onboarding of new hires and held Orientations on Mondays. Greets and escorts visitors in order to maintain customer relations within the department and
the hospital. Answers and routes calls via multi phone line from various departments within the hospital.
Attends Managers meetings and records minutes. Maintains and signs Hazardous Materials/Waste manifests and maintains all DOT and 
 Regulatory training requirements
Assists with OSHA guidelines and inspections in the department and inside the hospital. Provides associates with paystubs, paychecks, W-2s, W-4 forms and address changes. In addition, performs Payroll responsibilities and supports Human Resources. Assists associates with enrollment of benefits during the fiscal year and at open enrollment
period. Maintains and orders office supplies, cleaning supplies for housekeepers, business cards, and
 Business cell phones for Managers and associates. Works directly with Supply Chain to ensure deliveries are brought to the department.
