If you are looking for somewhere to help you get licensed in property and casualty, this would be a great position. They are very helpful and allow time to study and get licensed. After you get licensed, be mentally prepared to find somewhere else to go. The on the job training is long , but very inconsistent without any  type of organized structure to effectively learn how to do your job. If you make it out of training (turnover is extremely high during this time because many become fed up and leave because their valid concerns are ignored) you are then bombarded with a heavy workload.  You will be then directed to reach out to management for support, due to the poor training given, you will definitely need support. Management will often ignore you and or give out often inaccurate , unclear and conflicting information. They (management)will also chastise you for leaning on your tenured peers for support, but find time to openly and loudly chat about the employees and or non work related things while ignoring your request for support. They set unrealistic goals that also adds into their exceptionally high turnover rates, which is why they are urgently hiring. Typically about 5-15 people quit per month. 

This was a good place to learn a little more and get licensed but the training was very inconsistent and had no structure to it. I would ask questions and get criticized for not knowing when I was not taught it. I was given an ultimatum to stop asking questions or else I was going to be let go. I was hired begging of summer and it took until around November to actually start training on things. Management does not care for you as a person. You are just a number. Half the time they would call me the wrong name. On two separate occasions I was called into the mangers office for things that were not my tasks to handle. Also get ready for no work life balance and being overworked daily.  The culture there is awful and management could care less about getting to know you. They only want the work done. They track your every move and micromanaging was awful. They would track your every phone call and each minute you were away on lunch. I was thankful I was give the chance I just wish the management was better and that they would not pitch a fit if you had a question. Everytime I asked one you could hear the annoyance in the trainers voice. Very unprofessional. 

Firstly, interview process is not good, they will hire anyone, no matter the degree or years of experience and it is reflected by seeing the people you work with.

They really don't give you a great work/life balance and expect way more of you than is portrayed during the interview process. Not what I would call a "family-friendly" company, so I wouldn't waste time applying if you are seeking that. Colleagues are cliquey a very drama centered. 

Their customer support is (for their own employees) is TERRIBLE.  You will wait on the phone for HOURS to speak with someone, and they will give you vague answers and when/if they do answer; sometimes even asking if you can wait 2-5 weeks to get the information you are needing! Some parts of management are good to work with, but most coworkers will stab you in the back to get ahead- like stated, culture is very toxic. 


I feel compelled to share my distressing experience with McGriff, a place where employee well-being seems to be an afterthought. This company has demonstrated a complete lack of concern for its workforce, subjecting employees to an unbearable level of overwork. Proceed with caution before considering employment with this organization.

The workload assigned to employees was unreasonably heavy, with unrealistic expectations and tight deadlines that left no room for personal time or self-care. The constant pressure to meet excessive targets was mentally and physically draining, resulting in a severe detriment to my overall health.

Long hours with a lot of work to be done. Advertises 37.5-40.0 hours per week when it is more like 45-50 hours per week if you want to stay semi-caught up. That's the hardest part. McGriff culture is excellent. Immediate management is OK but they are hindered by upper management with salary increase and job titles.  Technology could use an overhaul. Most enjoyable part is having satisfied clients which are my #1 goal regardless of how much work I personally have to put into it.

Very fast paced work environment. I learned a tremendous amount working there, I really loved my job there and my coworkers so much. Very close knit family feel. It does have the typical corporate aspects, which some people like and some dislike, I never had any issues with that. The structure of the teams was very beneficial to learning and knowing who to ask for help.

Enjoyed all the employees at McGriff.  We had lots of participation of luncheons, picnics, etc.  I learned to make presentation books, make lots of travel reservations, set conference call, set meetings and arrange catering for upwards of 40 people for breakfast and lunch.

The hardest  part of the job was dealing with a boss that yelled at me all the time and drank too much. I mentioned to management but my boss was one of the biggest producer for the company.

Drastic environment/culture changes after the name change; & key knowledgeable, long time BB&T reps were replaced by less knowledgeable McGriff reps. As it relates to being forthcoming and honest, management was undependable and seriously lack professionalism. So disappointing.

Worked on the Pool side of the team. Get hired as one thing, it changes, the team leader forces you into a job position you don’t really want, won’t listen to you when you say you don’t like it. Team leader keeps your skills at a low level (probably because their level is also low) and also is sure to make plenty of digs at people who even THINK about leaving the company. No advancements. Best of all, do not go to HR about a problem because all the managers will find out and retaliate against you.

McGriff Insurance was a great place to work before the merger, but a bit before there had been many changes that we noticed that were causing problems for employees. Too much work and not much help, it was overflowing and management seemed at a loss for what to do. The majority of the days we could get some work done, but it was never ending and it felt frustrating to never feel a sense of accomplishment. The benefits were great, but it was not enough to overshadow the problem.
