I had the pleasure of working at Nexa Mortgage, and I must say it was a truly enjoyable and productive experience.

I started at NEXA Mortgage as my first Mortgage Loan Originator position. I had no prior experience in the industry. I went through the Academy and learned everything I know from the Mentor that I was assigned too. Even with a mentor I made more money per loan than anyone else I knew in the industry. After graduating from the Academy I could not fathom the paychecks I was receiving per loan. Some larger than my wifes entire salary. NEXA has an amazing culture and is full of experience and knowledge. If you immerse yourself into the culture you will learn more in a short amount time then some people will their entire careers as a loan officer. I could not fathom working for any other company. I have been here for 2 years now and still rave about this company to other LO friends of mine to make the switch. NEXA was created by Loan Officers for loan officers. They want to empower you to succeed. The hardest part is generating your own business. If you need to be spoon fed clients, this place is not for you.  

Working in an environment where everything is just for show and people are constantly getting laid off can be demoralizing and discouraging. It can create a culture of fear and distrust, where employees are constantly on edge, wondering if they're next to be let go. This kind of atmosphere can also stifle creativity and innovation, as employees may feel too afraid to take risks or suggest new ideas.

Moreover, a workplace that prioritizes appearances over substance may not provide the necessary resources or support for employees to learn and grow in their careers. Without opportunities for professional development or a culture that values continuous learning, employees may feel stuck in their roles, with little room for advancement or improvement.

Ultimately, a toxic work environment can have negative impacts on both the mental health and job satisfaction of employees. It's important for companies to prioritize creating a positive and supportive workplace culture, where employees feel valued, supported, and encouraged to learn and grow.

I recently re-entered the Mortgage business as an MLO.  My previous experience was as a Mortgage Broker and Lender.  I had many employees and wrote the highest volume in my office.  Currently I am a top Real Estate Agent and I wanted to expand my business.  I applied with Nexa Mortgage because of their pay plan and program offerings.  Everything looked positive and I was just waiting to take the MLO exam to join.  After passing and forwarding the information Nexa informed me that I would have to pay $250/month for their mentoring program.  This is absurd, I have never heard of a company requiring its prospective MLO's to pay a fee to work there.  It's clear to see through their shroud that they offer a good commission structure only to subdisize it through other MLO's .  There strategy is quite genuis actually; offer a high commission betting that only a few will benefit from it while making it up on the mass number of low producing MLO's.  It's a simple numbers game...touche'.

This job comes with no supervision but all the support you need to do your job. You are responsible for producing your own leads and closing loans. The company has a zoom support staff available during all business hours. Also the company pays Loan officers a little more commission on average than retail banking. You must be willing to put in the hours when no one is standing over you. Get out and meet realtors. Pass out business cards daily. Buy or create your own leads with networking. Have good follow up skills and time management. If you can succeed the income will be unmatched. Not for anyone who isn't sales oriented and just looking for a regular day job. You are more like an business owner here. 

If you have a book of business- business partners such as realtors, client referrals, CPAs, attorneys, etc that is consistently sending you business then NEXA is the place for you. The team you join on with NEXA plays a MAJOR role in your success. This is an independent role so you are responsible for all expenses for marketing, credit report pulls, the software, etc. plus a mentorship fee if you are not a seasoned LO (closing 6+ loans every 90 days). They do offer a consumer lead program where they give you leads but you must be a seasoned LO to participate. 

For an LO with a book of business, this is the place for you. They offer 1099 or W2, the rates are very low in comparison to other lenders, it’s a broker so they offer almost every loan type, vacation offers, good benefits, and you can build your own branch.

Most LO's are average.  A few are stellar and get left alone.  A genuine detachment from upper level management that comes from the CEO down.  Can never talk with a person on the phone - only "scheduled" Zoom meetings.
The CEO is childish, hot-tempered, bigger than life ego, not well respected or liked but most will not admit that for fear of getting shunned and internally black-listed.
Though company has dozens of Investors to select, it skews most business to the wholesale lender, UWM.  Rate locks are non-existent until loans are almost at a CTC status.
Nexa charges per loan, a 10% Admin fee from total commission earned, to the LO's.  It doesn't get put on the LO's gross earning.  It is not taxed.  Who knows where it goes.  IRS would be very interested in it all.

I have been in the mortgage industry since 2000 and made it through the roughest part between 2006-2009 ish. I loved working for ABM Mortgage, where I was for 8 years. Since they closed their doors, I have not been able to find a company that has the same type of culture. However, after starting at NEXA Mortgage, I knew this was the company I would be at for years to come. I have endless opportunities here. Even better than having loans for ALL lifestyles. I love helping those who never felt they could own a home. Of course, I love working with all clients. I believe that treating your clients right will not only make them happy, but it also makes me happy. I could go on and on but contact me if you think about switching companies. The company culture is welcoming but don't get comfortable, the company is more about saving money so they will pile work on you with low compensation. The company do not offer training on anything. You must know your role or learn as you experience things. No real accountability. They will pass the buck until someone who actually cares can resolve the issue. Upper management do not care about how things are done until they become a problem. No recognition when you resolve a problem. No positive reinforcement. They pay was decent until they started firing majority of the ppl who made decent wages and hired less experienced ppl to perform for less money. The work life balance was ok if you had a complete department.
