I worked at NADAP in their Health Home Department. It may have been the best program I have worked in under a nonprofit setting. 

It was meaningful work to support clients that had medical and mental health issues. My job was to make sure clients were linked to the services needed, as they strived to be independent. 

I'm usually worried about the onboarding process because some companies just throw a caseload on you without training you. The Health Home Department actually had a plan for onboarding a new person. They fully laid out my responsibilities and the target numbers I needed to hit. They also let me shadow other Care Coordinators during my first weeks. 

The internal trainings (on client engagement and other topics) were pretty helpful and definitely relevant to my job. That's why I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get into the social work field. You can learn a lot and put it into practice.

My supervisor was friendly and met with me every other week to check-in. The department had an open door policy and I received guidance whenever I asked for it. When my supervisor wasn't there, the director on the floor was always willing to answer my questions and seemed to really care about the clients. 

Emails were sent out to everyone whenever there was a promotional opportunity. I felt like there was room to grow and my peers got feedback on their interviews when they weren't selected for a position. People were encouraged to apply for the next opportunity. I ended up leaving to pursue a degree and would definitely apply to work here again. 

I did leave off 1 star under management because I just don't get the executive leadership (vice presidents and above) at this place. NADAP's main office houses all of them and the culture there is not as friendly to clients. It's a nonprofit and all of their offices should be client friendly! Plus, it's mostly women who are directors/supervisors, but then their executive leadership is full of white men. I didn't get that.

Upon hire, horrible training is provided. You must self-teach or else you will drown. Then after being self taught you are expected to do everything nearly perfect or else. No work flow balance between field and admin no matter how exceptional your time management skills are. No job security. You can be gone tomorrow. Daily policy changes given from management that are SO SO confusing. One day your supervisor will expect one work flow and say "well it's policy" and the next day tell you what you're doing is not policy when it's what they just told you the previous day and say NOT TO DO IT and change the work flow again, then on the third day go back to saying the work flow is what it was initially. So you are in a constant work state of uncertainty and do not know if how you're working is right or wrong. ALL SUPERVISORS MINUS ONE IN THE OUTREACH DEPARTMENT, will confuse you and throw you under the bus as their employee for their mistakes and delays. There is no room for growth unless you have a higher level of education. This is a job where you can easily get burned out and NADAP won't care if they lose great employees with strong skill sets. They have evolved into a culture around money and unrealistic expectations. I would not recommend this work place to anyone or invest any time into this place. Value yourself enough to not accept a position here or apply here. This place has high turn over and they are quick to fire you just as quick as they were to hire you. This place is a nightmare. If you have drive, passion and motivation, don't bring it here cause NADAP will kill it and leave you a different person than when you first came in. If you love the community, individuals and helping people DO NOT  WORK HERE.

Speaking from my personal experience and my own role, working at NADAP can be really hectic. If you like not knowing what to expect from day to day and you thrive on the challenge of connecting to and helping people, it can be very rewarding in that way. Workplace culture among employees and certain management can be very relaxed and supportive, however, management often let petty unprofessional concerns guide their decision making. Chances for interdepartmental communication and understanding are limited due to the workload. Corporate management is severely out of touch and are obviously most focused on making money (which to be fair they are a private business and to function need to save money) but the feeling of genuinely providing social services is not reflected by the people making the big decisions. They could do better at being less obvious about being driven by the business side more than the social services side of the job. Corporate managers often implement uninformed and frivolous interventions that do not actually contribute at all to work processes, and do no not consider the wider implications and possible outcomes to their solutions. The pay is not great and does not reflect the intensity of the job, so there is a high amount of turnover of people who are actually talented and do their jobs exceptionally well. No one is actually comfortable here and most people are actively looking for another job, or have a side business to supplement their income. Best amount of support is provided by fellow employees and most of the time, it isn't totally awful.

The work conditions are horrible. Management is very nit picky. Little things you do wrong lead to big punishments. (For example taking bereavement leave or coming in late) Management expects everything from one person. Case workers with 50+ clients and outreach coordinators responsible for generating their own referrals/ clients. I do not mean street outreach I mean individual vendors you are responsible for researching and going to. They also set a quota on the outreach coordinators and care coordinators like it’s some kind of sales job when it’s a nonprofit! 

There is also a revolving door of outreach coordinators very few people stay more than a year. Be careful because at first they’ll really act like they like you within your first 60-90 days, however after that point they’ll run you, treat you unfairly, and nit pick at everything you do. Now, it beats some other jobs like food service or retail but for professional jobs this is the lowest side. Salaries are horrible and go down not up. Very little career growth as well. I would recommend just working in insurance or a home based nonprofit rather than this. Lastly, you may or may not get the remote work they promise you.a 

This place is truly awful. Top heavy, money hungry CEO’s who are horribly out of touch with the work being done on the ground. Management will micromanage you down to the minute and verbally berate you. The caseloads are so ridiculous, it’s so hard to actually help people. The vulnerable clients they claim to care about are simply numbers to them. And you’re a number too. It doesn’t matter how much you care about the clients or what you do for them. Their main goal is you making them money by meeting their quota. They’ll have you do random things for the clients that they don’t even need just so they can bill for it. Your clients could be dying and you’d still need to make that quota. I had so many breakdowns from stress until I couldn’t handle it anymore. I’m taking the time to write this so others won’t make the mistake I did. Please please honor your own dignity and do not work for NADAP.

A typical day at work? Expect a high client caseload with plenty of pressure to meet monthly quotas. The workplace culture? Sterile-bureaucratic, with a police-state type administrator enforcing every fiat of management to the letter of the law. The hardest part of the job is dealing with managers who don't value their employees, don't train them, are impossible to please, nitpick you to death and terminate employees as casually as you would take your next breath. I witnessed good employees being canned without warning and escorted out of the building on an almost daily basis. The resulting climate of fear combined with a heavy veil of oppression cannot be exaggerated. Expect to put up with these conditions for below-market compensation. I saw the best intentions of good employees destroyed by NADAP's madness.


So I've been an outreach worker for a while here. They had us start using this app to make our job easier but it has been so much problems with the app and they still hold you to a standard without taking fact that this app consistently have problems and fail. We have to be in the streets outreaching trying to reach clients no matter the weather cold snow rain and if your app isn't working you have to stand there in the rain all because they want to "make sure" you were at the location. Go ahead NADAP risk my life. At the end of the day it's not how effective you are with clients it's how much clients can you see a month so they can make their money. I wouldn't suggest anyone to work here. It's been a horrible experience thus far. It's not worth the pay. Don't get me started how every department has received a raise besides outreach and we do the most work and are held to a higher standard. I'm glad I left

I like the job. I like being responsible for my own caseload. I like that I can plan my day out in the field so long as I am doing work... I appreciate the laid back atmosphere. The job requires you to be creative to get the job done and that can be stressful however!!! it serves as great experience should you wish to move up in the social service field. You learn a lot about the city and the resources it has to offer. You work right in the community where all the social problems are. You get an unlimited metrocard every month and they make coffee on most days. The job is not for the faint of heart. Also - self care and whatnot.

I came to NADAP looking for a program that serves clients through a more holistic approach. Thankfully, I found this approach within their Health Home Care Coordination (HHCC) program. Their HHCC model allows them to put clients' needs first and actually work with the clients (instead of mandate them) to obtain stabilization for their medical and mental health needs. 

Of course, there are always challenges when working within social services and in a state funded program. I found myself having to grow my flexibility, as policies changed regularly. This means that you have to be continuously open to training and retraining as well as learning creative methods for time management and client engagement.

I would recommend this agency and their HHCC program if you are looking for a work environment that constantly challenges you, allows you to work directly with clients, and creates opportunities to learn at a faster than normal speed.

Co-workers are nice unless they walk in and you're using their cubicle. Space is limited so coordinators have to share cubbies, up to 3 for one space. As a coordinator, you have more than 40 clients that you must complete a core service for on a monthly basis.  Less than 80% productivity is ground for disciplinary action. So while you are there to improve the lives of your clients, NADAP runs their ship more like a for-profit rather non-profit organization. The State is rolling out new requirements so supervisors and directors are still ironing the kinks on what the CC's must have and complete for each client assigned.  It's a challenging position to have. However, the best aspect is the freedom of being out and about and maneuvering your schedule in a way that is convenient to you and the client.
