Neighborcare Health

Neighborcare Health was a warm welcome after the corporate environments I have worked at in my career.  My team is warm, high spirited, works well together.  For the first time in my career I am working with people who do not try to blame others for any mistakes.  People in this company are accountable for their own actions and the other day one of my team members even took blame for someone else's mistake.
The clinic staff are very busy, this organization provides care to a huge underserved population, most are without insurance, have limited English language skills and are often part of the poorer sections of our fair city.  The staff, managers and volunteers I have met are dedicated and incredibly kind to anyone who enters a clinic and no one is ever turned away for lack of ability to pay.
As a non-profit I took a pay cut to join this organization but I understood that going into the job, as a non-profit the organization does not make money and often has to search for extra funding in order to provide the best services to the patients.  
It is not the kind of organization that anyone should join, don't work here if you want to make tons of money.  Work here for the mission, for the people we serve and the people we are lucky to work with.

Personally, coming from what some may call the soul-less corporate field I only feel the warmth and passion that drives the mission of this organization.  I have been just a throw-away number at prior jobs, discounted because of my status.  At Neighborcare Health I am valued for my skills and the energy I bring to my job and the organization and to me, that is worth a bit of a pay cut.

I initially started off in the call center and then worked my way up to being the clinic. I had come from having prior experience at another Healthcare facility. This company does not invest in training it's employee's and setting them up for success, rather it is the quite opposite, not just for the call center either but even the staff in clinics including the medical assistants. There is always conflicting information, policies, and protocols changing. No constructive criticism and healthy feedback or boundaries. Staff cusses each other out and fights in the halls; upper management gossips about their staff/ the persons personal problems. Upper management also likes to snoop in your Epic chart if you're also a NCH pt.  The benefits are very basic and minimal, pay was barely anything, you pay union fees, but Union doesn't do much to help you in the long run. Pt's go from weeks to months without hearing from care team/ or provider and have long time before receiving their medication refills. Security/ front desk are very rude. Very high turn-over rate. They hired me under false pretenses of accepting my medical/ religious exemption for covid 19 vaccination but then decided to fire me for not complying because they didn't want to miss out on receiving funding. If you're looking for a positive work environment with a company/staff that will acknowledge your hard work and dedication, provide efficient training, allow room for growth. give you a decent pay-rate and benefits, NeighborCare is not the place for you. Run

Work mission felt important. Lower salaries relative to other RN positions elsewhere made filling open positions with quality candidates slow. Staff recently joined a union. Work load felt very heavy until RN openings filled. Model clinic designation meant we developed and trialed new protocols and flow for adoption by other clinics. Pace of change sometimes stressful. Clinic managers supportive. "Top of license" mix of RN tasks include 1-on-1 appointments with patients with chronic diseases or wounds. Very satisfying. Time to develop new group approaches to care not available during work day pending new RN hire. Frustrating to not timely complete phone call-backs pending new RN hire. Able to reach out to other clinics' RNs for short term remote help with phone calls. Strong, supportive head RN. System-wide monthly RN meetings and bi-monthly provider/RN meetings helpful. Easy to informally consult with full time nutritionist, social worker, and behavioral health counselors. In-house Somali and Vietnamese interpreters supplemented with other language video and phone interpreters.

The Administrative offices are like a sorority where people are in and out of favor quickly.  During my brief time, I observed one of the female senior operations leaders saying one thing to a person's face, but then trashing them to a different group of people (this became worse after she didn't get the promotion she expected- everyone was thankful and relieved when this happened.  Many people fear this person will intentionally sabotage the person who got the job).  This makes things tough for the rest of management to do a good job because they are having to worry about politics.  This necessity to pay homage for promotions or upper level jobs has yielded many director level and above positions where the person in them really can't do their job at all, but they pay the right homage to the right person.

They talk about trusting relationships, but this is just talk, especially if you look at the two faced behavior and the way people are talked about behind their backs.  When you have people in charge that are more concerned with maintaining their own kingdom instead of getting the best people to do the best job, things aren't going to get done the way they need to.  

If Trusting Relationships is really a value, politics should never be in the equation.

I can only speak to my experience working in the facilities department, but I have enjoyed working for Neighborcare. Management is  supportive, receptive to suggestions and usually available for any questions or concerns. It is a true teamwork environment, and everyone works together to achieve goals. In working with other groups, I have found staff overall to be helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. You couldn't ask for a better group of people to be working with. I haven't always had a great work life balance and I definitely got that here. Though things could get stressful at times, (as is true with all jobs) I felt like I could ask for help when I needed it, and I would receive support quickly.

Neighborcare could improve on a couple of things. It is my understanding that HR issues pay increases as they see fit, without considering performance or recommendations from management. Also, the opportunities for advancement are limited. The programs and equipment available aren't the most recent or advanced, but they are capable of completing the intended task. This makes complete sense as it is a non-profit. 

The PCC has gone through so much changes in the past 4 years, and we still are. For the better of course. 

My department deserves the recognition. We finally have a strong, supportive management team. If it’s not obvious, these bad reviews about the PCC are from the bad apples who, thankfully, no longer work here. The PCC is truly not as bad as they say. Like everywhere, you got policies and procedures to follow. If you can’t be respectful or follow simple rules, nonetheless align with company’s commitment to the community, this isn’t the right place for you. 

 The ladies in management are kind, very knowledgable and are always trying their best for everyone. You fail at something or make a mistake, they are supportive about it. I grew into a better person because of my time in the PCC. I’ve seen people, especially with the current management, constantly go above and beyond, but sadly I feel it gets overlooked. 

Yes the calls can be stressful, and it’s ALOT of information to learn, but for the most part, everyone gives each other support. Leads are understanding, extremely accommodating, and most staff are actually genuine, sweet people. My overall time in the PCC has been pleasant and I’m thankful for the experience! 

High turn over for front office positions. Supervisors in middle management have a lot of responsibilities that don't necessarily match the compensation. Management is salaried and often those on the lower end of the totum poll work more than 8 hours a day. HR is unsupportive to clinic management and often unresponsive. The front office staff are very underpaid for the amount of work they have to do. There are an enormous amount of patient complaints and conflict between patients and staff that escalate and often result in the police being called. They state they have a mission to help the community but most days there are no appointments available and the providers don't really do anything to help the patients and don't want to see walk ins. The resources they supposedly have for patients are misleading. There is an extreme hierarchy culture with senior leadership. Over my time there, many providers and managers and other staff have left due to senior leaderships actions. Nice people over all that work at the clinics but the organization it's self is struggling a lot, and can't handle the patient load. It often feels like an unsafe environment inside the clinics.

In looking at the reviews, I'm shocked to see so many rude comments. Neighborcare is one of the few places, where people who have little to nothing to can come to treatment. Neighborcare provides care for everything one would need, medical, dental, mental health and etc. 
We have PTO, which includes both sick and paid time off. My first year here at Neighborcare, I had about 3.2 weeks of PTO.
We do have a lot of work to do at Neighborcare, when you are one of the few places that take Medicaid and the non insured, what do you expect. We have nurses and providers who see patient's on the street and in shelters. 
I find that my manager works with me and adjusts my schedule as needed. For some appointments we flex our time. You can learn a lot here at Neighborcare, from the front desk to providers. 
All I can say, we live in a world where we see take, take,take, why not work for a place that gives, gives and gives. This is what Neighborcare is to me. 
Neighborcare is very diverse and they are very respectful to people of all backgrounds and religions. 

I say take a chance on Neighborcare, I did and I enjoy it. Yes  the work is hard, but isn't work supposed to be work?

Neighborcare is run by people who genuinely care about the mission and are doing their best to accomplish it. 

There are serious problems with how Neighborcare operates - the organization does not have sufficient policies and governance for its size and there are frequent issues of communication. Neighborcare lacks enterprise sensibilities and seems to feel out most of its decision making rather than rely on data. 

The people are almost universally great to work with. People are friendly, supportive, and appreciate of one another. Senior leadership acknowledges the organization's shortcomings and basically apologizes for it often. 

When I leave, it will be due to our compensation model. There is no formal employee review process and no way for managers to give merit based raises. HR runs everybody's salary through payscale.com, finds the 50th percentile, and pays that amount with very little room for negotiation. This makes it difficult to attract and retain talent.

I worked in the call center and it was very stressful. Management tries their best and they meant well. I have witnessed employees disrespecting management and that created a toxic environment. The calls are so stressful and patients can be really hard to deal with at times.
 Besides a few bad employees, other staff were awesome to work with. The call center supports all the clinics within Neighborcare, and the supervisors provided exceptional support, including mental and emotional support. They do not get enough credit for the hard work they do and what they have to deal with. The call center does not get enough credit in general for what they have to deal and work with. The company as a whole needs to support the call center more. I left because I could not stand the negativity from other employees. Otherwise, my experience at the call center was great. Good luck to them all.
