My typical day at Neighborhood Healthcare often involve facilitating trainings, developing learning materials, and partnering with teams across the organization to support professional growth and leadership development. There is a strong emphasis on helping employees feel confident and equipped in their roles, and the company environment encourages continuous learning and professional development. I love my work because of the opportunities I have connect and support with colleagues who genuinely care about the work we do and the communities we serve.

Working here has reinforced the importance of ongoing professional development and employee wellness. I’ve learned how impactful it can be when an organization invests in its people. Personally, I’ve gained experience in cross-functional collaboration, communication, and building training programs that support both individual and organizational success. I didn't come from a medical background, so I appreciate the opportunities I've had to learn about the specific needs in the healthcare industry generally as well as our company in particular. 

One of the standout aspects of working at Neighborhood Healthcare is the transparency and accessibility of leadership. The C-suite consistently demonstrates active listening and a genuine commitment to hearing employee perspectives. Leadership communicates openly about organizational priorities and decisions, which makes me feel very confident.

I have found the culture at Neighborhood Healthcare to be incredibly supportive and mission-focused. People here truly believe in the organization’s mission and work hard every day to live it out. Across the organization, employees are collaborative, kind, and willing to help each other succeed. I also see a commitment to improving processes and acting on employee feedback, which makes it feel like everyone's voice is valued and respected. Even when there are things outside of our control, I see great care being shown to employee suggestions and concerns.

In my administrative role, the biggest challenge for me is that there are times when priorities shift quickly or when there are many initiatives happening at once.  Balancing multiple projects can be challenging, but it also reflects the organization’s dedication to evolving and meeting the needs of both employees and patients. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is the people. I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredibly passionate, thoughtful colleagues who are deeply committed to our mission. Being part of an organization that values professional development, employee wellness, and continuous improvement makes the work meaningful and rewarding. I also appreciate the freedom I'm given to be creative and innovative. When I have an idea of something I think will improve a workflow or meet a need, I am often encouraged to pilot or implement my idea, which makes me feel confident and valued. 

Overall, Neighborhood is the best place I have ever worked, and if you resonate with our mission, I would strongly encourage you to apply. 

I know I don't just speak for the medical assistants, but for the PSR's, lab assistants, RN's, security, and even the providers, that this workplace will drain you out of all the energy you have coming into this healthcare facility. 
You come into a workplace excited and motivated to learn new things, meet new people, and help to provide the best possible care to your patients. This workplace was full with unnecessary drama and problems. Some of the employees who have been there for several years look down on the new hires as if they were a joke, and refuse to help them because these employees felt intimidated that the new hires would take their places. There were some employees who would continuously be in the supervisors office discussing other employees to create more issues. There was a time where HR had to come to this location every single day because of all the workplace problems.
The supervisors were one of the biggest problems with this healthcare facility that I believe require the most attention because they were NEVER available for you and NEVER helpful. If you needed something, you would have to refer to your lead and that instantly caused more stress for them. The supervisors would never approve your requested time-off until you go into their office to remind them. The managers would pretend to listen to your problems, but never took actions. There were so many tough situations, too many to list. Then to later find out, that one of the supervisors was actually promoted. That will never be clearly understood.
I constantly looked for an excuse to leave this workplace because I felt so stressed all of the time. I'm glad I got out when I did. 
Of course, there are plenty of good people in this workplace that made my time just a little better everyday. They lost so many good people in such a short amount of time. But there was just so much negativity that took 2 years of my life away from me, which I immensely regret. 
It is hoped that this facility is working better with their employees than before because it was honestly a difficult experience. 

I worked in the pediatrics division. The training I received from the direct lead was less than optimal to say the least. often making directions that would result in the incorrect action at your expense and later pretend otherwise. Moreover, this lead was known to gossip across the offices in Escondido through the use of MS Teams, and management was aware of this. Ultimately, this contributes to a toxic work environment. I would strongly advise for one to consider this sort of lead if they are trying to get their foot in the door in this industry as you are under the scrutiny of such an individual. Once you're hired, you must stick with your role for a minimum of 6 months or so before you can be considered for other roles across the organization. As for peers, some medical assistants would at times complain to management and throw non medical staff under the bus instead of discussing the issue directly and collaboratively. The doctors and nurses were approachable and easy to talk to. Trainers, IT, billing, and recordkeeping peers were easy to work with and were often quick to offer their assistance. The PSRs I worked alongside were also very informative and also offered their assistance when they noticed that I was unaware of certain procedures and duties. To me, it seemed like they were more interested in my success than leadership was. Irrespective of my personal experience, I would say that the role is a good place to start for someone interested in the field. 

NHC is a great place to start a career in healthcare, but in the long run there are better paying jobs at other offices that don't demand as much as this organization does. After working there for many years I formed great bonds with the patients and providers but the culture has changed drastically in the last few years. Work loads and expectations seem to be increased on the Medical Assistant with every passing day and stress levels as well as moral could be a lot better. On top of that you feel like your voice isn't valued or heard. Of course this all depends as well on what site you work at; Some sites have great leaders/managers who wish to see you grow and others are known for having abysmal leaders. The managers at my site left much to be desired in a LEADER, mainly inspiration trust and sincerity, but they are good bosses. After working at NHC for many years, I do not miss this place whatsoever, but I am grateful for the opportunity and experience it provided me. So just a word of advice: If you can, ask some of the employees what the work environment and culture is like. Trust in what they tell you and weigh your options carefully ;)
Overall it's a good place to gain XP.

Other than the patients I helped and my coworkers, I have nothing positive to say about the company. It’s all about who you know there and who’s best friends with who in management. They only move up those who are “yes men/women” and if you voice your opinion it puts a target on your back. They are not open to the employees ideas to help make the company better, they are set in their ways. They also go through management a lot as well as regular employees. In my two years, I had 3 different supervisors and 4 site managers. They boast about being a team and coming together to help the community but then they pit employee vs employee. They have an “open door” policy but if you say something expect the whole office to find out by the end of the day. As for care, the providers are amazing, they genuinely care about the patients but upper management is more concerned about quantity of patients than quality of care. I wouldn’t recommend applying if you’re looking for a long term job. This company has lost a lot of hard working employees and they do not value your hard work

Where to begin I've been working at the call center for a few months and can whole heartily say STAY AWAY. They have 3 to 6 beware hires all start on the same day and expect everyone to train them. They keep saying we have to hit a 100 calls everyday while still keeping up customer service and quality. The supervisors do not help at all and only speak with you to "check in". When we do voice our concerns they say we're working on it. But by speaking with my coworkers they've been "working on it" for years. The turnaround rate is so drastic. Stay away from the worst run call center I've seen in years. They expect for a group of 30 individuals to answer the phone for the whole organization that includes 14 different site and memorize all the doctors at 14 different clinics. It would be possible if proper training and management was in order. Also there is a bad work culture and be warned if you apply and get the position your boss is an overly anxious nervous hyper fixed lady who rush through every sentence. Worst job I've ever had in over 10 years.

First off the training lasts a month and you have to drive all the way to Escondido. They do reimburse for mileage but from your main clinic not your house. Second management is terrible. They find ways to pick on you. Whenever you express your concerns or tell them how you feel they see it as you being rude and tell you to go over the code of conduct policy. They also have mandatory meetings every month that are boring . Third they say no fake nails yet some people are wearing them with no issue. Also no personal cell phones while on the clock. Who cares if the work is done. Basically you aren’t allowed to leave your desk often or have any type of life. Someone is always watching then reporting it to your supervisor. This place is toxic with no work- life balance. Management is not supportive. All they see you as a number. They don’t appreciate or value their employees. 

This company was a good place to start my career as an insurance biller. Though I was layed off only a year into my career, I learned quite a bit as an intern then employee of Neighborhood Healthcare. I didn't only bill for hospitalist claims, I also answered the phones and took payment for accounts from patients; there was also quite a bit of A/R billing. I had very good co-workers; some that had been with the company for at least 15 years. The hardest part of the job was time management, there was a lot that we had to do in a short amount of time which included closing all accounts by the beginning of the following month. The most enjoyable part was reaching my personal goals, whether it was closing on time or getting a past due payment from the insurance company. I really enjoy what I do.

I only was employed here for a month. Although the other PSR employees were helpful, friendly, and very compassionate to help me succeed in training, the supervisor WAS NOT. I had a medical issue where I missed 2 days of work, returned back WITH a doctors note. Two days later they fired me for not having "good" attendance. Supervisor was NOT compassionate, nor understanding of my medical issue, and didn't even give me a chance to continue my employment. Apparently it's more important for me to drive to work with my blurred vision, being light headed, and feeling like I was going to pass out, then to seek medical attention. So please, if you decide to apply here, have a back up plan/job because they will fire you, even when you have proof and documentation. Inconsiderate management.

I absolutely have no positive word to say about the company. It starts with supervisors and managers all the way down to coworkers. Management is horrible, they favor their own type of people who spy on managers targets, and managers love people who says yes to everything even if ethically is wrong. Coworkers are gossiping all day long, not doing their job and supervisors doesn’t care about giving good training and no organization or instructions whatsoever. Mangers promoting people who does shady work. Overall I don’t recommend applying for this company at all. Their is no growth, no respects, and everything is negative their. Only drama. You will absolutely be miserable there. I tell you the truth and that from my own experience working there.
