I have had a great relationship with NPHI over the years, so it made sense  to return to the company when I started graduate school to become a PMHNP. I am really glad that they gave me an opportunity to return. For all RNs out there that have plans to become a psych NP in the future you would definitely want to have a good relationship with Neuropsych. It is really hard to find preceptors for psych NP school; so an positive employment relationship with this company would be very beneficial to you. Neuropsych will take care of their own like they took care of me and I appreciate them for that. Working for the company help put me on a straight trajectory towards my career goal of becoming a Psych NP because I did not have to worry about the headache of searching for preceptors because I worked in an environment where I was surrounded by them. Schools will let you sign up for NP programs and let you get further in depth without telling you the reality of how hard it is to find preceptors, especially in a psych. I did not have to worry about that because of Neuropsych and I truly appreciate that. I only left the job because the rest of my programs curriculum involves adolescent patients as well as adults and Neuropsych only takes adult patients. My goal is to complete my schooling and then return to the company as a Psych NP. The company is big and is expanding in the United States, so you would definitely want to be an employee if psych is your passion. I feel that the company could benefit from having a lot of RNs working for them who inspire to become an NP. A lot of mental health facilities in Indiana only accept students from certain schools, but NPHI is flexible. The owners are real good people that notice the hard work of their employees and promote from within. Hopefully the company can put a good word in for me to the provider group that they use so I can return in the capacity as a board certified psych NP. 

I started out as a CNA. The company allowed me to work PRN while I went to school for my nursing license. They did not stop there. The DON called me in personally to mentor me on the areas I was struggling with. I received e-mails from my co-workers encouraging me over and over again. I came back to a HUGE increase in pay and they were all so happy for me!  They brought me into the New HIre Orientation and the HR Director presented me with my licensed FRAMED! It was the first time I'd seen it! Since then, I have helped others achieve theirs. When I wanted to relocate, they transferred me to NBH in Crown Point. The RN's training here have been with the company for a long time. They are good at psych work and they are outstanding with the patients. I have learned a lot. I am not the only CNA that advanced in this company. It is hard work but I like to stay busy and I like that the owners will work the floors themselves. They will never ask you to do something they are not willing to do themselves. That speaks volumes to me to see them out there helping. This was the fourth company I worked for and the only one that has encouraged me to be great. I round hourly. I deal with every situation thrown at me and when you are honest and work hard nothing but good things can come to you. I would encourage all hard working cna's to come here and I would absolutely encourage every nurse. It is rewarding and busy and worth your time.

In 1.5 years, there was 3 CEOs, 3 HR department heads,  multiple directors of social services, 3 DONs. At various times there were no department heads to speak of. The corporate family fires staff without industry standard investigations or counseling or warning. You will be sad and frustrated when you see patients wearing the same dirty clothing for days or the hospital looses patient clothes.  You will be shocked when supplies such as soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and medical supplies are unavailable. Your coworkers will spend their own money to bring in supplies so patients can be clean. Turnover will be so high that these problems don't get solved. Talented people with great vision are hired but they don't last. You are not empowered to fix things. Decisions come from corporate, who are usually not even in the building.

We’ve gone through multiple CEOs in a couple years. Job descriptions don’t matter, if you excel at your work they will just add more on your list for you to continually stress over. Very low staffed in all departments and every staff member is over worked without being additionally compensated for the added and extra work they’re demanded to perform. They fire staff and then add the extra work on someone else’s plate without offering additional compensation, bonuses, raises etc. No overtime, you basically have to complete 11 hours of work in an 8hour day and lunch breaks are mandatory. You’ll leave work stressed and on the verge of a mental break down everyday. They’re opening yet another hospital while all of their others are not operating adequately. If you request a raise it has to go through CEO, corporate and then the owner and you will never get what you’re asking for even if you continually produce quality work. Staff retention is awful. Pay is the furthest thing from competitive and you can’t get a raise until your 1 year mark if and you get one at all you’ll be lucky to get 3%. Only good thing is pto payout if you work 1 year + and leave on good terms. Go somewhere else where you will be both appreciated and compensated with competitive pay. 

Yes, it is fast paced.  We are a short term facility and that means rapid turnover; patient wise. Yes, it is tough work. Not everyone can work in psych.... They are quite transparent in the interviews and New Hire Orientation and let you know that psych is not for everyone. Those that actually "get it" understand that to be a part of this unique specialty hospital - we have to do everything better than the others. We are always at capacity - rarely are we on an administrative diversion. It's really exciting working here! If you have a real work ethic, this is the place for you!  Despite what others may say, I love that it's face paced. I'm proud to be a part of what this hospital is doing for those suffering from mental health. I enjoy interacting with the patients. I think the management from the North has moved mountains here and have created a much different culture! The hardest part of the job is seeing those with mental health not understanding why they behave the way they do. The best part of the job is watching a family crying because we were able to get their loved one back to where they need to be to go home!

I worked as the Director of Plant Operations at the Indy hospital for a just under a year. The facility had promise, but I decided to leave and very disappointed. I was really excited about working here, but starting day one I could tell something wasn't quite right. My housekeeping staff for the most part were good people but unreliable at time. The very first day of orientation I found out that the CEO that hired me had stepped down and someone new had taken over and this all happened within a two-week time frame. 
After three days of orientation I was handed a handful of keys and was shown my office if you call it that and told well here you go good luck. My main concerns were that the hospital couldn't pay their vendors and it was a struggle to get needed supplies, no contractors set up for emergencies and no means of buying supplies at local hardware stores because the credit card was never paid . The stress factor was real !!


Overall working here was great experience,  though at first, it seems tough,  especially working in the geriatric unit,  without any prior experience or certification to be providing that extensive care on the patients 
- The company doesn't have a structure that will certified you as a HHA or CNA after getting that experience. Which there do not give you grounds to be able to excel somewhere else if you leave the company 




What is the best part of working at the company?
Under staffed. Unsafe patient:nurse ratios. Violent patients with no concern for staff and/or patient safety. Lack of supplies. Lack of activities/programming for patients. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. Staffing, pay, bullying by staff, no follow up by management, patient care issues.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Money driven company. Regardless of patient outcomes or staff safety.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working under staffed. No supplies. Buying items for patient care needs such as soap, shampoo, etc. Poor intake process resulting in inappropriate admissions. Patients being herded like cattle to free up beds. Patient placement issues resulting in longer than necessary stays.

I have been working for this company for almost a full year.  While working for this company, I was given the opportunity to work around my schedule and continue my education.  This was very important to me.  Management has not been consistent in the past 8 months.  I have seen 3 D.O.N and many managers including staff nurses.  Not consistent in quality of work by nursing staff.  I love my job and the people that I work with everyday.  The hardest part of the job is how managers and peers do not hear the concerns of the nursing staff.  Another issue is that admission comes very late in the day after 6 p.m. when most of the physicians are already gone for the day.  The admissions should come during the day preferably after 10 a.m. and before 5 p.m.  To ensure the safety and process of getting the patient accommodated onto the unit.

This organization is such a big disappointment. The mission and values stated on the website are nothing more than a collection of meaningless words. Patients nor employees are valued in any fashion. Executive Leadership is focused on power, flexing their egos and degrading employees. Managers attempting to bring much needed positive change and improvements are quickly labeled troublesome and targeted. Leadership truly needs to re-educate themselves on basic management principles.  Management by fear and intimidation is antiquated and went out of style decades ago in the United States.  There are many good employees who have wonderful intentions and advocate for safe patient care.  However, the current system beats them down making it impossible to stay.  With the right changes, this organization could be an amazing resource for the community.
