    I originally was hired when our plant didn’t have a weekend shift in place, so I was working about 5-6 days a week, on second shift. And let me tell you, it was good money for sure! But, it changed my mindset. I went from always being so excited and bubbly to kind of withdrawn and more introverted. Which to me, was crazy! After I was switched over to the weekend shift, and I felt like I was beginning to have my life back, I realized how this job and the schedule really affected me as a person and my own mental state. Sure, working the weekend shift, I was starting to make less than I originally was, but it was enough to live off of if not even more! Newell would occasionally bring in food trucks and give us $10 worth of food, we’d get some holidays off, and sometimes we’d even get things like free Tupperware and such. So that was pretty nice. The majority of the people I had met there were really nice and helpful, and everyone pretty much knew who everyone was. The job wasn’t hard to learn whatsoever. I was able to move around really quickly, and I got down how to do almost everything in the plant. So, only working 3-4 days a week, getting paid pretty well, and occasionally getting a random gift from Newell or food trucks being brought in, it was a pretty good job.

    Though, I also feel it is important to state what I feel is also some downsides to it. I will start off with, you get 3 points. Technically, if you’ve never worked at a factory before you may not know this, but you can only use 2 1/2 points and be okay without getting fired. If you use all 3, they’ll have to fire you. So in my opinion, only 3 points is kind of disappointing, but there’s nothing I can do about it so I just tried to make due and only used them when I absolutely had to. Another downside that plays into your points, it doesn’t matter if you have a Doctor’s note from having to leave work to go to a doctor, or anything such as that, it will be your point. They state that those are what your points are for. So again, kind of disappointing but understandable. As a temporary employee, I am almost 100% sure that you never get anymore points, unless you get hired into the Union by Newell, so use those points wisely. Another thing that I feel is important to state, it can take a long time to get hired as a Union worker. For some, it can take as little as 4 months (which to my knowledge has only happened once), and most of the time, it can take about 8 months - 2 years (also what I’ve been told by those who have been hired on). It’s all about your work ethic. How hard you work, how you treat your coworkers and those you train, etc. Some have even talked to HR a couple times, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about your hard work. It’s not going unnoticed. They just have a lot of other things that they are taking care of, and other peoples’ job performance to shadow, and these things can take some time. Now, onto the next subject I feel that needs to be addressed. When I was hired and came in my first day, in my own personal opinion, I feel as though I had an amazing trainer and a good amount of time to be trained on the particular line I was put on. But, here recently in these past few months, training has become rather difficult. Difficult in the sense of, someone may be put on a line and get one day of training. They may not be able to handle it on their own or understand it enough, let alone train another employee. But, because most days many employees tend to leave throughout a shift, it can cause some disorganization. The supervisors do their best to have an appropriate amount of people on different lines, sometimes things just happen and can make that really difficult. So, when you are in that situation and are having to train someone, tell them what you do know, what you have learned so far, and just work together to continue to learn. If you’re being trained by a person who has been put in this position, try to be understanding, and do your best to learn based off of what they can tell you and what you can learn from the line itself. You will have a mess occasionally, you’ll get stressed a lot, and you’re body will get tired. But you’ll learn better ways to handle certain situations, and eventually get the hang of things! Always tell yourself, “They’re just lids. They’re not worth my sanity.” Just let that stress and anxiety go. At the end of the day, you’ll know you worked hard, you did your best, and you made some good money along the way. One more thing, before I finish this up. Always, reread the policies and guidelines for the work place, as well as the overtime schedule, and make sure to always wear your protection gear. You want to be informed at all times, and make sure you’re following everything that you’re supposed to, and be safe while doing it!


TLDR: Overall this is really just a horrible place to work steer clear! I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere before accepting a factory hourly job here. You'll follow the 2-2-3 schedule but the expectation is that you work at least one or two of your days off.
The majority of the "operators" don't speak english. No growth opportunity or internal advancement. Even if you have a degree they'll wind up going with an outside hire. 


When I started working here as a Technician others techs at the time were rude, abrasive, and inconsiderate. Their training methods were  contemptible. I never worked in the plastics industry before so I could only go based off my previous manufacturing experience. Technicians were arrogant and reluctant to help. Trying to get an explanation out of them to help myself better conceptualize the processes proved difficult. There was never a day without bad attitudes or snide remarks even when trying to help someone out they were ungrateful. I tried to distance myself from the toxicity even switching shifts and departments but you can't escape it. Pushing back or standing your ground only feeds their ego and gives them opportunity to flip the script and declare victimization. 

Don't be fooled by the advertised pay either because that's with shift differential that's not your base pay and is subject to change same goes for the gainshare bonus which they rarely give. The hourly pay scales with experience but trying to get mid or top pay has road blocks so no matter how hard you work it will prove fruitless in the end due to skill block waiting periods. Supervisors are not supportive of your goals and do not care about work life balance. They only give half a days notice for forced overtime which can lead to saftey concerns because you're already fatigued and walking in to a fast paced environment where the floor is covered with grease, water, and oil. 

They hired oil reclamation techs but despite their best efforts there's still slip, trip, and fall hazards throughout the entire plant. Their solution is a boot reimbursement program for proper non-slip footwear instead of replacing hoses & fittings, buying seal kits, gaskets, o-rings and valve rebuild kits. It's absolutely ridiculous considering their maintenance team is sitting on their behinds watching YouTube waiting for their phone to ring when there's an issue. There's so much dead weight you'll find yourself doing all the work just to keep things running and everyone else will let you while they sit on their phones or smoke...ignoring red lights and radio calls. If you ever raised concern about saftey or failure to adhere to policy or procedure (SOP) you were deemed a troublemaker for pestering leadership, regardless it would fall on deaf ears and nothing would be done about whatever it was you were bringing to their attention. 

There's so many changes in management it's hard to keep up and no direct line of communication. You're told to report it to your supervisor but it never goes above that unless you did something wrong. HR is a joke for several months they were no where to be found under the guise of health and saftey covid 19 protocols. Even when you could find one of them in the office they would direct you back to your supervisor or the askHR portal because they just can't be bothered despite an open door policy. Vacation policy is a joke for the first two years you get a few hours earned every month untill you're eventually able to use it all around December of each year. If you borrow against it you'll have to pay it all back if they decide to terminate you for whatever reason like attendance. Not enough sick days and no earned PTO system like other companies. There's zero chance for advancement...you could spend years working diligently and catering to their every whim and they'll wind up going with an outside hire who has no experience or familiarity with the process but has a degree. Overall this is really just a horrible place to work steer clear! I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere before accepting a factory hourly job here. 

Working at Yankee Candle is how you would expect any retail job. The manager goes over daily goals, sales associates are assigned tasks (that I later discovered were mostly her tasks to complete, yet she completely delegated to sales associates and assistant managers, taking no responsibility at all), and everyone is supposed to prioritize customers and try to make it as successful of a shift as you can. Which is very challenging to have such high expectations with such low wages for employees. You do learn a lot about the products they sell and the training is decent too. Systems and procedures are easy to understand and anyone with two brain cells would be capable of doing the work. Store manager was horrible. Displayed favoritism, laziness, poor organizational skills, is condescending, has a sense of entitlement after being with the company for so long, gossiped about coworkers, customers, her managers and the overall company and has a sense of over-bearing, fake bubbliness to every customer that walked into the store. The manager trained each individual beneath her to follow customers around the store, hound them into buying product, and be down their throats. I never felt relaxed or at ease around this manager. Customers would very often pick up on this behavior, get uncomfortable with the surroundings and leave the store. I feel that this manager did not represent the company well as she got into many personal and political discussions with customers. She was too involved in her employees personal lives and pulled some aside to talk about things that were none of her business and constantly gave her opinion on things that were personal to others. She would often ask how 10 minute breaks were being spent if you were to leave the premisis for that short amount of time. This particular manager also was terrible at putting together schedules. Giving too many hours to people who didn't need them and were requesting less, and not nearly enough to those who were vocalizing and requesting that they needed more. I have heard from numerous past employees that they left due to the management style of the store manager. This location has a VERY high turnover rate of employees. I am only aware of one person who has worked there 1 year, besides this manager; most only working a few months maximum before they quit. The district manager was great and did her job very well. I can only hope she is aware of the experiences of past employees and makes a positive change to this store. After I quit, I occasionally visited the store as a customer and was treated with extreme disrespect and attitude from her as well. I do not visit this store anymore, I refuse to support this location. Workplace culture was goal-oriented, and unrealistic expectations were put upon everyone working beneath this manager. The hardest part of the job was dealing with store management. The most enjoyable part was getting to clock out. 

Over the duration of being with this company, the benefits are what I would say to be best while employed by Rubbermaid. Benefits include the basics: dental, vision, medical and multiple HSA options. About 80 in/20 out. Company offers on-site screenings for employees to receive extra HSA contributions. Free flu shots are given and gym membership included. 
   Across all hourly departments, you receive full-time hours, overtime pay, and a sense of fulfillment at the end of each day. Once a week you are given access to the factory outlet store and receive good discounts on company products. Around the holidays you are given free meal supplies and product free bee’s.

    As a press operator, the break-time you receive does not always compliment the amount or extent of work being done. You are assigned between 1-4 presses, (typically 2 or 3) and given four breaks and a lunch break. Each individual break begins as soon as you are relieved by your floor person. When arriving at the break room, you have roughly 7 to 8 minutes to rest. Depending on the pace, number of presses, and/or how repetitive your assignment is, it is likely to be overexerted after these “too” short periods of rest.

   Rubbermaid’s emphasis on quality plays a large role in what makes or breaks associates that are temp-to-hires. What may discourage temp employees are the careless efforts that both quality control and maintenance make to improve upon or fix defects. Press operators are frequently coerced by Q.C. to manually improve quality at the expense of risking minor injuries.    

   Rubbermaid observes safety as a top priority controversially for the best, or worst. The best results from safety at this company are the financial dividends given from “CEO Reward” to management only. As hourly associates, you are NOT treated with a significant bonus for maintaining the bar of safety. All company safety implementations restrict the enviroment around workers, hindering some of their abilities and work style; and do not help to improve working conditions. Also, none of the company safety guidelines play a role in, or effect how team leaders; supervisors, and managers do their jobs.

   The wide spectrum of employees at this company tends to be one of its biggest let downs. Many full-time associates are unable to meet the physical requirements of certain positions due to their disabilities and unhealthy physical attributes. This unfortunately creates more work and physical stress for employees that AREN’T disabled and that DO meet the physical requirements, yet for the same or less amount of pay and recognition.

I have worked in luxury retail for many holiday season's. I thought candles would be a nice change since I was a customer for 15 years in three different states. Because I knew the product and had passion about it. That quickly changed with the current store manager.  I noticed within their first coupon blast that she was abusing corporate policy and abuse procedures and there was an 800 number on the back of the inventory stock door and it was my obligation to call and report it because copying coupons scanning them and giving them out to any customer that walks in without prior approval from Corporate is unacceptable. After I watched her have meltdowns crying fits on a daily basis making every employee so miserable and so involved with her personal problems every employee came to me one time or another because they trusted me and said that they were just working this job because they have to in the moment and when they get another job they are gone. That is not an environment that I find positive or motivating it was the most negative experience and let alone during one of her meltdowns she pushed me into a wall I reported that someone came in from corporate human resources and did nothing but talk to her and the moment they left within one day she was back to doing the exact same behavior and procedures that I thought Yankee Candle would have a higher standard and a zero tolerance policy. It came to a point where I was called when I was working a charity event and was not scheduled and she said I was on the schedule I knew right then by doing the right thing and reporting the coupon abuse that I was getting company retaliation. I was one of the highest sales producers I trained other sales employees and I would have been an amazing asset to this company and I don't believe in my heart that it's at all these locations it's just the store manager and the above management that tolerates this kind of behavior and treatment to the employees with these outbursts, crying fits that led me to resign. I should hope that not every location is run like this and certainly shouldn't be tolerated but for some reason it is at this location and with upper management. I'm much happier being a customer where I am enjoying buying the candles rather than selling the candles. I will enjoy going back to luxury retail for future employment.

I took the job as a temp job after losing my regular job to COVID closures.

So the pro is, they somehow managed to get designated as an essential business to stay open so they had jobs available. The only other pro is that the warehouse smells amazing & you can get candles at a deep discount. I don't think it's as hardcore as Amazon as you kind of just get started and do your own thing. During busy times there is unlimited overtime....but for a very limited time only, then your hours are cut to 16 per week or less without notice. 

As for the rest, I would take any other job if you can. Almost no one speaks English as a first language. The managers live to scream at & berate you. There is no job security whatsoever. If you clock in even 10 minutes early they consider that time theft & fire you on the spot. The security guards there are hilarious. They remind you of every negative stereotype about security guards. They act like their sole job is to harass you...and they do, relentlessly. The head of security actually got busted impersonating a law enforcement officer by claiming arrest powers he did not have. The guards are expected & incentivized to write reports each shift. So they actively LOOK for reasons to write you up & open an investigation that often leads to termination - and the majority of those I knew about were extremely petty, not real fireable offenses anywhere else. If you make anyone wrong or make a mistake they won't tell you that you're fired; they just deactivate your badge. So you'll show up for work the next day and your badge doesn't work and that's how you find out you no longer have a job. 

They very much see their workers as commodities, not people. They will work you to the bone for 60 plus hours a week when busy, then drop your hours without notice as soon as things start slowing down. Every employee I spoke with (and could understand) said they just use and abuse people, then fire them or run them off and replace them with another body. They verbalize that they believe everyone there is a thief who just will take time to catch, so there's zero trust between the company and employees. 

Some other shady stuff but didn't find out what before my time there ended. They had a fountain soda machine in the cafeteria. One day it just wasn't working anymore. Turns out they hadn't paid their Coke invoice in months so Coca Cola came in and took out their equipment & cups/lids. 

WAY too much drama for an environment where workers are pretty autonomous & left to just get their work done.

 Typically you would come in and run your designated lines ,which is helpful because then you can learn all the techniques and adjustments and so forth, to make your product perfect as in the beginning you're able to rely on the senior workers and your department to give you a hand, and show you all kinds of great ways to adjust correct or simplify things to make your job better and easier, downside some of the tech in your department for management favorites not based on skill accuracy or production more of a buddy bear deal so regardless to you being a better more productive printer and opening would come up very much bigger machine that you are definitely more qualified for Buddy bear we get the gig even though you were the one that would constantly have them adjust in power through the issues tuning and problem solving they had definitely more qualified motivated and more adaptable for the new job upgrade wouldn't be relevant buddy bear was still get it anyhow aside from that it was really cool work vibe all the production people printers assemblers and so forth with super cool and made it a pleasure working with all of the  team overall was a really cool experience and in the grand scheme of it was very enjoyable to work there and they did that pretty cool incentive during back to school months got motivated you too give it your all put in the extra time and really produce with pride and on occasion they do cool stuff for you you know just to be cool like when it's hot bringing ice cream truck out for everyone did you get dinner here there just because which is very unusual and cool things most employers don't do they did go to extra mile to show you that you matter, and that was super cool made you overlook some of the bummer things, but there was more cool things than anything else good people 


I have worked seasonal at this job for a couple years. While it should be a fun place to work, the fact that you are trained in a multitude of positions and have no choice as to which one you might get on any given day when some employees seem to get their preference is annoying. I find that the more liked you are by managers allows you to do your preferred job even if you may not be as good at it as someone else.  The cross-training policy is supposed to eliminate that but again, if mgmt likes you, you will get your preference.
Also, there is no real concern for employees. Mgrs will ask you ( walking by you) how you are but don't listen to your answer. I literally had one ask and continue a conversation on a walkie immediately after not waiting or really caring what my reply was so it was just a motion not a real concern for an employees well being.
Also, if you get hired on a seasonal contract, you can't apply for core positions until you have been there 90 days. Meaning, if you have worked for the company before, as a seasonal emp, for over 90 days but have not completed your 90 cycle in a current term and a job you want becomes available, you won't even be given an interview. They will hire someone new to the company over you, even if you are highly qualified for the position, which makes no sense.
Overall, it's okay employment and average pay if you aren't looking for the long term. Employees complain constantly and promotions happen at the whim of upper mgmt but occasionally there are nice perks. Free candles, a turkey for Thanksgiving and on occasion, during the holidays you might get pizza.

Yankee Candle is a interesting place to be in, from the glass front doors to the interior you step into a small fragrant little world. Met with a smiling face and help to either find something in the store, or hear about sales promotions, you feel welcome and happy. The attentiveness of the employees to help you from the front door arriving to leaving happy, is a welcome change that a lot of other companies don't seem posses.

    The typical day at work would be to walk through the doors early with your apron on and the drive to help as many customers as you can before your shift is over. Once a customer comes into your store, you greet them with a smiling face and ask if they would like help finding something or hearing about any sales or promotions going on. As each person finds what they would like to buy, you ring them up at the register and ask if they would like to buy any car fragrances or lighters for their candles. You also ask if they would like you to show them how to shorten their candles wicks so the candle can burn at the maximum length of time without discharging suit. On the off chance that nobody wants to buy anything and nobody is wondering around the store, you make sure that everything is in place and cleaned. You make sure that there are no open spaces that merchandise can fit into, and everything is in order and the things that are selling out are replenished. 

    After your day is over, you clock out and leave the store knowing that you helped as many people as you could and that the next day would be even better.

I've been working here for about six months now, and I haven't felt worse mentally or physically in my entire life. They start you off with promises of safety and how people will help you and how if you physically can't do a job, let someone know and you'd be switched. They harp on ergonomics and safe lifting techniques, but on the floor? All that goes out the window. Floor people don't care if you are like me and literally too short to reach into boxes sometimes. I'm short, but I'm certainly not outrageously so! The majority of people are over 5'8", yet lack the ability to understand that shorter people have shorter arms! It's not for a lack of strength either. 

There are cliques here too. If you're not among them you'll have people telling others not to help you even if you're trying your hardest to get things done. 

Not to mention advancing can be rather sexist. I tried to apply to become a floor tech but everyone was telling me not to because it was a 'bad path,' yet when I talked to one of the female supervisors she seemed alarmed that my male supervisors were telling me this. She said there was no reason she was aware of that I shouldn't try.

This job is literally breaking down my body because of how many hours I have to work just to get a proper living wage. I have to work 50+ hours each week. I'm taking vitamins, I'm taking protein, I'm trying to get as much sleep as I can... I'm doing everything I can to keep my body functioning, but because of people not caring about how the human body has actual limitations I come home every day mentally and physically miserable. 

Nobody here cares about you. They care about mindless slaves and profit.
