One of the first things I would do is log in to our patient tracker program we used, Mobilab, to check to see what draws were on the hospital floor and also check to see what outpatients were waiting to be seen. It there were patients I would take care of them first before anything. There were usually maybe 5-7 other lab assistants. I can say that I enjoyed working with everyone. We all had an understanding and worked well together. Our priority was our patients and the safety of our patients. Anyone that I've worked with would say that I worked well with others and if they needed help they could ask me. At Norman Regional I learned how to be proficient in many areas and not just in the outpatient lab. I had to always remain professional while tending to patients no matter what the circumstances were. I had to keep in mind that I didn't know what to expect and didn't know what the patients' families were going through when I entered a patients' rooms, whether it was in a regular hospital room or in an ICU room. I had to assure that my professionalism and kindness was my approach to all patients. The hardest part about the job was taking it personal. I could leave sad at the end of the day and think about what I had seen that day. All I could do is offer my kindness the days following and hope my patients for the best. The most enjoyable part of my job is that I felt like I made a difference in patients' lives. I felt that I gained trust with some and with my trust and kindness I was able to make them feel better. During my time of employment at NRH I had been told that I displayed a kind personality and it seemed that I cared about my job, and I showed it. This has also been recognizable by other coworkers and supervisors as well.

A typical day at work includes washing and reassembling surgical instruments, instrument sets, and equipment followed by proper sterilization and required paperwork. 

I have learned a lot about hospital procedures, especially in the OR. I have developed a strong sense of professionalism when dealing with formally nauseous situations (for me) involving bodily fluids and traumatic bodily injuries. 

I have learned the importance of department leadership. Departments function most efficiently when management works a leader, not just as the boss. This includes having current working knowledge of every aspect of the job in order to make the most logical and efficient judgement calls. Without knowing as much or more about the job as the employees a manager risks making seemingly confusing decisions based on emotion and mood rather than experience and understanding.  

The hardest part of the job is safely handling the workload during busier days. Surgeries are scheduled regardless of labor resources available. Often times work piles up like mail with no end in sight. It can be overwhelming at times.

The most enjoyable part of the job is working with pleasant coworkers. I also enjoy networking around the entire hospital and learning about different departments' responsibilities. I try to always adapt my work when possible to contribute to the efficiency for other departments. The best times are the slower days when we have a chance to catch our breath. It is like the sun coming out from behind parting storm clouds.

RN- I worked there for a while and at first it was really great. Staff was helpful, mostly good team members, friendly helpful, had plenty of resource staff and great physicians. It was not long until staff started getting cut, patient load increased and nursing responsibilities and job description increase while trying to maintain patient satisfaction which became a key for funding reimbursement. Policies changed, and employee stress increased. Management was let go, primary orginizational leaders left and replaced, new management came in and their hands were tied. Soon after employees were basically made to sign new commitments to the company and if they didn't, they were reprimanded or asked to find new employment. I believed in their mission to take care of patients and try to satisfy them, but everything started relying on satisfaction scores. It is really hard to do more with less employees. I understand their wishes to stay independent and hope they can. But, when you have short staff and handling emergency's and patients are waiting to be seen, the patients are upset and do not know what is going on with emergent situations, they do not understand, and most do not care. They believe their sore throat, or stubbed toe is as important as everyone elses situation even though their need is not as critical as someone needing emergent care. Another thought is there is more competition coming in and that is making it worse for the Executive Team trying to stay competitive. I hope things get better, most of the staff really do care want it to work. I continue to pray for them all.

I like my job at Norman Regional, but am unable to advance beyond my current position.  I want to stretch myself, as I have been in the same position for 8 years. I want to move from Oklahoma to a more progressive state in the arena of health care.  Health promotion, wellness and prevention are areas that excite and energize me.
A typical day is spent seeing inpatients dependent upon tobacco products, talking with employee or community members who call my for support with quit efforts, possibly giving a talk to students at the local university or college about various aspects of tobacco dependency.  I work with our wellness committee and took on the task of ordering and providing medela wipes to lactation rooms of our facilities for the comfort of patients and staff. I also volunteer as interium chair for Tobacco Free Cleveland County Coalition.  I have learned that each person has something unique to offer when working on projects together, and how to blend our skills. I have learned to look for alternatives when "Plan A" doesn't work as expected. The hardest part of my job is seeing the disease and illness overcome patients I have come to know over the years. The most enjoyable part of the job is discovering new information that leads to better ways to accomplish goals.

I started on the stroke unit at Norman Regional Hospital where I cared for up to 5 high acuity patients a day. I was responsible for managing medications, procedures depending on their needs and orders. I communicated with physicians and pharmacists regards patient needs and delegated care with ancillary staff. I read telemetry, drew labs, cared for central lines, PICC lines, changed and started IVs daily. I floated to other units when census was low and when other units were in need. When I changed to the Women and Children's unit I cared for infants from birth to 18 years and obstetrical and gynecological surgeries. I cared for antepartum, postpartum and fetal demise. A typical day would be have a combination of pediatric clients, post-operation and postpartum mom whose baby was in the NICU. I loved working with the pediatrics because they are so positive and excited about recovery but it was also very difficult in caring for infants who where in pain if there was limited care to be given. Norman Regional Hospital gave me a the opportunity to learn how to care for a large variety of patients and enhanced my nursing knowledge and skills. I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to be apart of the team.

Literally the best management for the speciality you will get but the compensation and benefits are very poor. As an experienced nurse, my started hourly was ~$23/h full-time. That was a pay cut of nearly $2.50/h from my previous RN job. I have received pay increases since I started but nothing compared to what I should be getting paid this far into my career. The benefits are awful. You have to see doctors within NRH system and even with the highest health insurance coverage, I pay way too much out of pocket. My coworkers are family. But there's a lot of drama and nurses talking poorly about other nurses and the doctors. The charge nurses frequently stack too high of patient acuities together for one nurse to safely handle and when you bring it to their action, you get in trouble. It's definitely leading to burnout. And when a new nurse makes advances in the specialty or in the workplace, the more experience nurses with talk poorly and ostracize the new nurse. It's not the best culture to say the least.

There are nice perks to working here like the coffee shop (aptly named the Daily Grind), the Scrub Shop, and Gift Shop which are fun to browse through on any down time. 

Pay is fair, benefits are solid, and the work isn't overwhelming. There's plenty of it, but there's lots of resources to ensure you aren't burning out. 

They have a gym in their facilities that's free to access at any time, whether you're working that day or not. 

Norman Regional emphasizes their culture heavily with ideas like "the Norman Way" and "ICARE" which are values they want each employee/healer to have. Things like integrity and communication, to specifics like helping visitors find where they need to go, and smiling/greeting people in the hallway. 

The cafeteria is also well executed. I've never had a bad meal here so far and theres enough options available even for picky eaters. 

Overall, it's a significant upgrade from my last employer, and I would recommend Norman Regional to everyone.

The organization is dedicated to patient care and employee growth, which has allowed me to develop both professionally and personally.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role is knowing that my work contributes to the smooth operation of the hospital and ultimately helps provide quality care to patients. Whether assisting staff, organizing essential documents, or interacting with patients, every task feels meaningful.

The leadership at Norman Regional fosters a culture of teamwork and respect, making it a pleasure to come to work every day. I’ve also had opportunities to learn new skills and gain experience that will benefit my future in healthcare. Overall, working at Norman Regional has been one of the most positive and rewarding experiences of my career, and I’m grateful to be part of such a great organization!

This place is a good company to work for, but if you're applying for anything in the kitchen area/ cafeteria at porter or healthplex location, it's sucks and managers are very unprofessional and lazy. By far the worst team of management I've ever dealt with from an employer. The executive chef is extremely lazy and does a poor job with assisting, ordering you name it.. Definitely shouldn't be in a leadership position. The regional manager is just as bad, very unprofessional and ine-sided. The other in hiuse manager is very messy, double sided and unprofessional  managers here sucks to the full extreme and they all have numerous complaints under their name, but nothing gets taken care if. Wouldn't recommend anyone to work hereshouldn't not be in a leadership position.. The regii alanager is also very unprofessional, and the other in gouse manager is very unprofessional double sided and bot to be trusted.They inly care for themselvea..Very messy and unprofessional period

Most everyone i work with are wonderful. Always willing to help, if asked,. And if they cant help then they try to find you help. There are a few that are not team players or they only help out their friends.. but for the most part, i believe i can count on everyone... most understand that there a rough days and easy days. Ultimately we are all there for the health and well being of our patients. Most of us believe in this but there are a few that come in with bad attitudes and leave with bad attitudes. They are no reflextion on the rest of us. This is not a sink or swim environment!! That would put patients at risk. Everone is busy, no one reads minds, if u need help..ask.. and it will be given.. i love my job. I love the satisfaction i get out of it and i think we have a great crew... sure,  we could all use more money and the benefits are not so great... but its health care. What can u expect
