Typical work day would consist of working your usual assignment. I learned how to work independent and as a team mate.  I also learned a lot about Alzheimer's and other diseases and their processes.  
Management was uneasy at that time as it was a time of "cleaning house" so to speak. Therefore, co-workers  varied.  Sometimes we worked full staffed, sometimes not. Usually mandatory overtime so we had proper staff to resident ratio.  
However, when we had contractors or per diem it was a little more difficult because they didn't know the residents or routine.  We still managed!  That was when I would be more of a leader.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the resident and every day being different.  I feel very proud that I can partially or totally assist residents in need, knowing that I am doing my job correctly.  Making the residents smile, happy and/or comfortable.  Each situation is unique.  I also do love the full-time hours and sometimes optional overtime, sometimes mandatory.  

The job is difficult, no doubt.  After learning different approaches and redirection, years of hands on experience along with getting education and certifications; it becomes easier but will always be challenging.  It's a challenge I enjoy because there is always more than enough to do.

While most people enjoy the work they do, upper executive management in incompetent and untrusting of those who do the work. Riddled with poor decisions and lack of forward thinking, time, money and good people go right out the door. Several directors are grossly incompetent and do not want to hear how to improve and only are concerned with getting people out the door and and not caring if they are actually helped. It’s actually concerning the amount of errors in leadership judgement and forethought. If you are a thought leader, you are wiggled and cornered into monotony or leaving with no room for advancement. Challenging the “upper leaders” puts you in cross hairs for bullying and forced resignations. So many great people graced the floors, but left due to the ignorance and incompetence of leaders who don’t know the first thing about leadership. If you want to collect and pay check, stay out of the cross hairs and blend in. If you care about people, want things done right, don’t work here. Look elsewhere. 

They used to have a very good leadership structure and CEO - the changes the Marathon County Board and the new management structure has led to job insecurity, pay cuts, lack of progress or movement in roles, overworked and underappreciated staff, and a general lack of good company culture. Somehow they are heavily loaded in management but there is poor oversight of day to day employees who keep this place running. The pay is astoundingly bad for most roles, even with decent benefits to balance it out. They seem to be a flailing company with a real lack and loss of care for their clients, patients, employees, and community, and though common with companies, they care more about the dollar than they do their core values and mission. Just read the news in the last few years about leadership changes, budgets, ousting the CEO, and closing down extremely important community programs. You are a number here, one they will roll over at a moment's notice in order to save face, save money, or save themselves.

Management leaves a lot to be desired. Leadership and their trickle-down approach to delegation is misguided at best. A few of the managers have little to no clinical experience at all. So when a facility like this hires new grads as their core clinical staff, you have managers taking their cues & basing their decisions on standards of practice that has little to no foundation of clinical relevance. This is the epitome of the blind leading the blind at North Central. At one point the entire night staff left because they were being driven out by the inept, that truly didn’t know what they didn’t know. I was afraid for my license and I left as soon as reasonably possible. The best part, the highschool drama amongst the staff there is only rivaled by a daycare. I should’ve listened to my community of friends that warned me about the CEO and the culture there; it is nightmarish. Even the security guards spread rumors & gossip.      

 

Very hostile working environment full of neptuism and favoritism. If you value your nursing license this isn't the place to work. A lot of things are thrown under the rug and they have nurse managers who have relatives working under them, leading to complete unethical practices. Believing you can make a difference or be exempt from it affecting yourself or not being pulled into the unhealthy environment would be foolish thinking. This is not a healthy place to work and management is greatly responsible for contributing to the toxicity.  These are a few of the reasons they are always short of nurses and continuously hiring. I would suggest not to put yourself in this type of working environment if you have values, morals and respect yourself and your liscense.

There's a lack of professionalism among the management teams in certain service areas. Little meaningful support and resources were provided for direct service employees by leadership. What is preached in orientation about organizational values is NOT implemented in reality. Diligent and compassionate workers are punished for asking questions, identifying problems, and offering creative solutions up to and including termination/forced resignation. Workers and patients/clients/residents are put at risk every day by dismissive and condescending "leaders" who seem to be driven by nothing but ego and revenue.
Spare yourself. This place is toxic!

I've been working at youth crisis stabilization for a little over a year. Management is horrible and lack of communication is awful. I like my job in the sense of what I do, but the management and work schedule is too much. Management does not appreciate their employees. Lots of tasks are delegated to lower level staff and they do not get compensated for it. Employees are over worked and burning out. Management is not providing the trainings needed for employees so most of the time people don't know what they're doing or have to try to there best to figure it out. 
I've talked with staff from other departments and they say that they're experiencing the same problems with their management. Clearly something needs to change.


Management was absolutely horrible, except for my direct manager. There are higher ups who know NOTHING about behavioral health yet they make the calls with little to no knowledge. When an employee who has extensive training and education, management will still tell them it means nothing and ignore anything. They say they are person-centered but really they are money-centered. They don’t care about their employees. They let go of the good employees and keep the bad ones. The director of ACS is horrible, rude & condescending. I wouldn’t trust them with any of my loved ones, or any clients for that matter. If you want good behavioral health services, look elsewhere. 

When first hired, you are treated wonderfully. After you’re acclimated, you get thrown into roles not in your job title. Getting backlash for what cannot feasibly be done in a day. Managers offer support but when asking for help they’re busy.  They have favorites and are not shy who knows it. The culture is fairly childish- a lot of chatter and bullying. Great employees are let go, and those who are favorited are able to run the show how they please. People are in roles that they have no education for while others have worked hard for their degrees and training. The clients there are great. They’re a good crowd to work with, but management, staff culture, and empty promises of advancement outweigh the good. 

Toxic Managment, No set rules based on the lack of communication between management, making good workers work roles of two to three people sending help of caseworker or staff withno training on the floor. Admitting patients to the floor without proper medical supplies to treat or care for them. Feeding patients preschool meals and snacks. Lack of accountability for management for carelessness of not ordering supplies, responding too emails, and managing the gossip on the floor. Talking core values when the management lack that in all aspect.
