I have worked at Open Door for over 10 years and I am very happy here. Working at Open Door is not "just a job", it is an opportunity to serve our communities and help those in need. I would say that most of my colleagues are here for this mission too! Over the time I have been at Open Door, I have had several opportunities for career advancement and many opportunities to learn new skills. You will be recognized for high-quality, hard work.  Open Door is a nonprofit, so working here comes with the normal challenges of working at a place that is mission-focused rather than profit-focused. With that said, management has done a great job with keeping us financially stable over the years and they have been working hard to increase pay, improve facilities and increase our overall satisfaction at work.  

I have to add that I am surprised with many of the negative reviews that I have read here. I honestly do not feel that they represent the majority of Open Door employee's experience. They definitely DO NOT represent my experience!  Come join the Open Door team, you will not be disappointed!

Open Door Centers value their patients & they are always seeking areas of improvement & growth.  Staff is encouraged/supported to maintain ongoing professional development & if wanted & committed, there are a lot of advancement opportunities, from the housekeeping department to the top administrators.  Diversity is visible & welcomed. This is the perfect setting for someone who has a passion to serve patients, where they are the center, while interacting with a great range of experts, who keep an Open Door policy (always reachable).  The CEO welcomes each staff member in person during the orientation period & she takes pride in showing real examples of professionals who have grown within the organization, including herself.

I have to start with how bad Port Chester open door is being managed . They don’t know what they are doing. There is a mess in this place . There are excellent employees that get no recognition at all. No respect for hardworking employees.  Promotions are based on if u are liked by the manager. People with minimal experience get promoted. Someone with real experience that knows how to do their job is never given an opportunity. Lazy people get away with being lazy and get special treatment. There is favoritism even when they denie it ! No honesty with staff . A lot  of gossiping . A lot of work.  Meetings on lunch time . Like we are not supposed to have a life . Now no place is perfect but we do deserve better management than this . A place where u can go everyday and feel good . And instead of getting support from management because we do try to talk about the issues affecting staff their answer is “people can leave if not happy “ instead of working with us .

Seemed great on surface but serious issues here.  Supposed to be 37.5 hour work week, no paid lunch, but they schedule mandatory meetings during lunch hours and will put patients on your schedule, as well.  Even if patients come very late, they are to be seen even if your other patients are waiting and they don’t care if that means you end up staying beyond your time, without compensation.  Management sneaks out the door on time everyday while workers are dealing with crisis after crisis.  Oh, and management can’t be bothered telling staff she will be out on vacation.  Another very slick trick here is putting recent grads in supervisory roles.  These people really think they are going to get somewhere but management knows they will do above and beyond to prove themselves until they burn out.  No one with any real experience is a supervisor or manager.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My Supervisor admin has been very understanding regarding a medical limitation chronic illnesses they have supported me during this time. I enjoy the patients and the team I work with. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are goals for patient care and most people do not have enough time to complete patient care like admin. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We are a good team and collegial. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work hard. I usually don’t take full lunch. But that is because it is important for me to leave on time in the afternoon. I get most of my work done and do not usually work after hours. It is a good company that cares about the underserved communities but you will work if you join this organization.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everyone works as a team!  Training is always the most valuable part of any job. Open door training is available until you know you are ready to handle the position you were hired to do. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stress at work is what you make it to be. No more stressful than working in any other clinic position. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working with many knowledgeable individuals who love to teach and share their knowledge and experience. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Caring for many patients all with different needs.

No one values your work. The higher ups press to see so many patients and they don't care about the employees. You're nothing but a number to them. The supervisor will tell you that "you will be replaced" no matter how hard you work. There is no organization at all. The miscommunication in this company is unreal. Never have I worked for such a disorganized company in my life. The patients are so babied and hand held, that you have to do everything for them. Also, the providers do not do their jobs correctly and are always trying to push their patients to different providers. This job is only good to get some experience; but you're better off working elsewhere. 

I Honestly feel like the position of an LPN here is more of an over paid receptionist who gives injections. Literally all you do is chart and poke people all day long. Environment is too chilled for me. The staff is pretty amazing but the job feels mind numbing. The company advertises and promises things they do not give such as free parking, and very misleading schedule offer, and not so compensating benefist. The MA'S do all the "Nursing" while the nurse waits on the side lines for an opportunity to give a vaccine. The pay is also low, especially for these risky times.  NO THANKS!  

Working at WIC has been a truly rewarding experience. The organization’s mission to support families and improve community health is deeply meaningful, and it feels great to be part of a team that genuinely cares. The leadership is supportive, coworkers are collaborative, and there's a strong sense of purpose in the work we do every day. Taking care of patients that really appreciate you. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is a shortage of staff and often spread too thin. They expect more than a 40 hour work week with the promise of a bonus. If you leave no bonus. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People are usually very nice. It’s a good work environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy , some site more stressful than others.
