What is the best part of working at the company?
Depending on what department you work and who the manager is.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management constantly pushing lower level employees to do much more and perform tasks way above their pay grade and job description. They create an atmosphere of employees constantly competing against each other by promoting certain employees and not considering the rest of the employees who have worked really hard during the year. This creates resentment towards management and coworkers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is double standard. Some employees are free to take longer breaks, work completely remotely and are constantly praised for just doing their job while others are constantly scolded and even punished by not getting a raise or bonus. There is no transparency during the year so you can be completely surprised.

Most days were very jammed pack with muliple projects going on at once.  You had to be very detail and time oriented.  The mornings were the busiest with trading in both the portfolios as well as personal trading by employees.  My group was very project specific so you had little to no back up with your respective projects.  Portfolio trading was priority and didn't slow down until the market closed on the west coast at around 2 pm.  It was then that you had to work on the varios compliance reviews which were due monthly for each client.  I was in charge of roughly 90 client reviews as well as 10 comingled accounts.  I was also responisble for all personal trading for all employees in all our offices which included New York, London and Singapore.  



Oaktree is a tight knit, family environment that is relatively more relaxed than your standard hedge fund. Management across all levels is approachable and supportive depending on who you work under. If you work hard, you will be rewarded with generous bonuses and promotions according to industry standard. The environment is strictly business so don't plan on a ton of office social events (i.e weekly happy hours) but this culture also means getting to leave on time every day. The majority of people have been with this group for years which speaks volumes to how employees feel they are treated. Personally my experience with the accounting group was wonderful.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Oaktree is on top of everything from interview to payroll.  As a contract employee I never felt like a "temp".  Really quality organization

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There's always stress in contract work, but nothing major

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
very supportive of the WFH model, they get back to you right away and they always have more than one contact to help

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked from home, so I did most of my work in meetings over teams.  When I had to travel for work, I just put my travel expenses in with my time & got reimbursed right away.

I had the pleasure of working at Oaktree through a temporary agency and thoroughly enjoyed my 4 months working there. Had my husband not been transferred to another part of the country I would have sought a full-time position at Oaktree once the temporary assignment was over.

Oaktree Capital Management was a great place to work. As time past, the company made changes in upper management that was very different for the overall friendly culture. In the Accounts Payable department, the work load was extremely heavy, the co-workers were not supportive and difficult and lastly management was unreasonable.

Depending on the team you work for, it will determine how happy you are. Like with any company there are good and bad apples. No growth for the EA role and not challenging or interesting work. NY office has a strange dynamic and you deal with A LOT of egos working with the marketing team. 

Very difficult company to work for.  Stamford office is very cut throat, management is extremely pompous and brags as to what he spends his money on. Does not care about you, was spit on by one of the female  managing directors. When a mistake is made they blame you for it. Not a pleasant management team at all. No room for advancement.

The office was typically quite quiet, with everyone working independently. The average working age was on the older end of the spectrum, and there was an office culture of "come to work, and leave". No one socialized outside of work. With that being said, everyone in the office was extremely hard-working and focused.

A very employee-friendly company, Oaktree Capital Management, is a very good place for young candidates to grow at. The company has a very family oriented culture and hires only A+ people. Due to its rapid growth, it offers smart, ambitious, people a great place to learn and grow.
