Typical day at work involves Opening the clinic for 6- 8 providers. Checking all eqiptment for efficiency. Preparing work space and documents for the providers and patients ie: forms for patients specific to their physicians. Preparing patients for Capsule Endoscopies for the RN's. Rooming patients obtaining Vitals and inputting all information into the EMR.  My coworkers are very friendly we usually room patients with a partner system. Throughout the day we all assist with additional duties to ensure low no show rates such as reminder calls along with letters to patients , We abstract patient information into the chart of all new patients to ready them one week in advance for their visit . My manager is very supportive in daily work schedules and scheduling issues that may arise for patients that may come to clinic on the wrong days, she tries to make sure they can be seen . Our number one priority is patient care and making sure the patients feel very comfortable telling us about their concerns so that we may relay the information to their physician to better assist in their plan of care. 
The hardest part of my job is to see the Cirrhosis patients decompensate. to see them waiting for transplant and being helpless to their condition. The most enjoyable part is to actually get to see the patients after their Liver transplant and the satisfaction of knowing that you may have helped ease their worries at any point of the process. Also to see the Crohns Colitis patients when the medication finally starts working and their weight becomes stable and they are no longer feeling so bad they cannot work. It is truly amazing to witness the tranformation of so many .

Greets patients and visitors, registers/updates patient demographics and insurance coverage in computer system. Answer patient calls, take and relay messages; respond to patient and staff inquiries, and communicate with referring physician offices. Opens and routes incoming mail; distribute correspondence, reports and office supplies; mail out form letters. Schedules appointments via computerized appointment scheduling system, coordinates medical records and associated clinical/administrative documents. Obtain pre-certifications. Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients. Other duties or special projects as assigned.

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Associate supports the patient care mission by carrying out medical and administrative tasks in accordance with their scope of practice. Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts. In addition, coordinates and provides patient support services such as scheduling appointments, answering telephones, greeting patients and registering patients in a patient care area.

The good: benefits, nice physicians. The benefits at osu are hard to match, they offer a good amount of pto time that gets accrued with each pay, the insurance is very affordable and the tuition reimbursement is for any accredited school. The physicians are great, but in my opinion have no say in the management of staffing. 
The bad: No teamwork, no management, no guidance, low hourly wages, no room for advancement.  I had to constantly ask management for a lunch break or to have someone cover me for a lunch break which was like pulling teeth. I've gone without lunch breaks multiple times, however when your clinic is non-stop for the entirety of your shift, trust me, that 30 minutes is needed. If I asked for help during clinic, if staff didn't want to help, they did not have to and lets be honest, who is going to actually work harder if they are not required too... I always worked late, I never knew what time I was getting off. When I was offered the position,  I was told I could work 4-9 hour days and one half day, good luck with that. That never happened. Its just as the previous reviews have stated. Very selfish, individual mind set type of work environment,  with very little training, teamwork and guidance. Also, if you take any time off, you are forced to use your PTO, whether you want too or not.  I would not recommend OSU-P dermatology. 

OSUP does not hire outside Medical Assistants for a Lead Medical Assistant roles. If you are interviewed for a Lead Medical Assistant position, you will be considered for a Medical Assistant position only.  Lead positions are for Internal Candidates who have worked for OSUP for no less than 1 year.  The hourly salary for a Certified Medical Assistant with 10 + years of experience is around $19.18 per hour.  Most of the Certified Medical Assistants in our office work multiple jobs, due to cost of living expenses.  The Health Insurance, and other benefit are good overall.  Unfortunately, this alone isn't enough to pay cost of living (rent, food, utilities, emergency expenses).  Last year our salaries were reviewed, most received a 4 cent raise, while others received a one cent raise.  Our Patients are wonderful, and I Love my job!  The choice  becomes either you work 2 jobs, or find another job completely.  Both choices are difficult regardless.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working remotely and being able to create my schedule, flexibility in taking time off and then making it up any time that was convenient for me. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I was not making enough money to support myself, my rent was over half of my monthly income, and when asked for more money, I was shut down; they didn't care that I needed to leave to make more money.  Always wanted to add more work without more money. I was given a great review and a 1.5 %  raise. It was not a particularly friendly environment with a toxic trainer. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is cult-like, with lots of drinking the OSU Kool-Aid, and culture is gaslighting, in terms of you should love to be here, but we are not going to pay you what you're worth, and we are going to continually expect you to do more for the same amount of money. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8 hours of high volume coding production

Typical work day? Is different everyday they are expanding but they try to cater to specific locations more than others and communication is so so.

I learned that being a nurse is more respected. Management has no idea how toxic and fake it can seem when they will go by the word of others before asking you.

Work culture cliques and favoritism. Roles are flipped depending on location

The hardest part of the job is working with others. Some of them are cool. They take advantage of hard workers, they try to please EVERYBODY they like, if you’re not part of a clique prepare to be singled out, people always think you’re trying to outdo them. Hearing nurses complaining about doing the basics of their job. Nobody wants to be a leader depending on location. Pay is extremely low.

Patient care is the best part of my job. Some physicians are really good educators and communicators 

They work you short staffed with no compensatory “bandaids” to even try to keep their staff loyal. The favoritism is out of control!! Quality staff consistently leave because they are disregarded while inferior, suboptimal staff are rewarded with promotions!  Directors and managers who appear to have no formal management training. These are not quality people managers. All of these issues plus more, equal an absurdly high annual attrition rate yet upper management and HR dept does nothing! How can red flags not be going off like crazy with a turnover of no less than 20 staff members per year - including pre 2019. 
Not allowed to work from home if hired as clinic staff even if your job is NOT in clinic. Unfair and inequitable treatment of staff. 

A typical day at work would be managing the fax server which can be anywhere from 200-300 incoming faxes per day. I learned a lot about the medical field in general just by the forms I process through the faxes. I would say management there could use more training geared strictly towards leadership. The culture there is a very closed culture and not very open to change as far as boosting morale. This could be due to the rules and policies. The hardest part is managing the fax server by myself seeing as though it is not a one person job. Another hardship with the job is the clock in and clock out system which is very strict.The most enjoyable part about the job is that I learn daily from the medical assistants, nurses and doctors who are all very nice.

nobody in charge at management level, low level staff are gossipy and childish, staff constantly on their phone/facebook, management looks the other way and avoids any conflict but talks about you behind your back, disorganized managers who have no clue what the others are doing, no support for new staff, onboarding is the worst, they claim better benefits than OSU but not true, pay was decent but working conditions made it impossible to get anything done effectively, unprofessional and not employee friendly, HR is a joke, nobody to take issues to without being chastised, most of the clinics are run like daycare centers.  Not sure who gives them a 5 rating on here, must be the leaders who get paid high wages but hide in their offices  or they are HR planted reviews.

Management does not have your best interest at heart. I have been there for two years and have only been audited twice. I took on a heavier workload several months into my employment without additional pay to help department needs and was reprimanded for a minor communication issue with ONE of my many providers I code for and this was after discussing my concerns with taking on the extra work. I failed one of my two audits and when asked for additional training received nothing. If you’re considering a position, do not be lenient about your pay rate because the odds getting an increase is rare and take extra work with a grain of salt. I have not received any positive feedback from my manager since I was hired and there is no support or information to back up negative feedback.
