I thought I would be here until retirement but I could no longer endure the politics at OMC. The people I worked with were outstanding and are my best friends, but management is truly a disaster. A very punitive toxic environment. Nurses answering to pharmacists and athletic trainers, clinicians answering to nurses, people in Epic who care nothing about what it takes to take care of the pateint- they dictate literally everything we could do. Non-clinical management who are making decisions that directly effect clinical practice, archaic practices that no one wants to address, and physicians who do bizarre things that are not and have never been standard of practice without oversight. No oversight of safety and quality other than an overworked compliance officer who had that duty dumped onto her. No respect for nurses, PA's, NP's, Midwives, CRNA's, and anyone who is not a physician. Many good providers fired for flimsy reasons. No room for advancement, and when there is, there are made up rules. One nurse wanted to apply to be nursing educator and they told her she couldn't apply without a masters degree, but then they hired someone without a masters. I was told I couldn't apply for management because I don't have a masters but the Director of clinical services is a nurse without a masters. Inconsistent, unfair, lack of transparency, poor communication. CEO is wonderful- the rest of the "c" suite and most of management is a top heavy disaster.

Very disappointed in my employment at OMC. All of the training and sacrifices and time I spent completely devoting myself to this company, and I was let go due to EXTREMELY poor communication. No justifiable reason, just that the other employees didn't care for me. I have never been terminated from any employment, ever; nor have I ever felt so disrespected and misunderstood. In all of my years I have never experienced such an abrupt decision without the opportunity to speak. I was completely blind sided. Im still in disbelief that this happened at the clinic I grew up with and now take my children to. After informing those who needed to be told of my change in circumstance, I was answered with laughs, cries of disbelief, and utter shock. From family, former employers and co-workers alike. What a complete and utter mess for trivial aspects of life. I couldn't be more angry or hurt at this company than I am now. I will go forward, maybe a blessing in disguise. But word to the wise...if you say something to one, you are saying it to all. And it will come back to you, but it will be nothing at all like you said or meant it to be.

Working as a Registered Nurse in Family Medicine has been a meaningful and well-rounded professional experience. This role has allowed me to care for patients across the lifespan while developing strong assessment, communication, and care coordination skills. I support providers through patient education, medication management, triage, and preventive care, while helping patients navigate both acute and chronic health needs. The fast-paced outpatient setting encourages critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork. Leadership is approachable and supportive, fostering a collaborative environment that values patient-centered care and continuous improvement. I appreciate the emphasis on continuity of care and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and families. While the workload can be demanding, it is rewarding to see the direct impact of nursing care on patient outcomes. Overall, this position has strengthened my clinical confidence and reinforced my commitment to high-quality, compassionate primary care.

It’s not a bad place to work, but getting time off for any reason is a total nightmare. There’s no communication between staff, so I can say, a month or so in advance, that I need a day off for doctors appointments and I have someone willing to cover me, the scheduling staff will agree and make note of it, and when the time comes for my appointment, no one knows what is happening or why I need this day off. All at the last minute. No one has ever heard that I need this day. It’s the same way for kids’ appointments and my vacations. I have a lot of pto that I will never be able to use for the same reason. My second issue is that I’m chronically left working alone with a huge workload, even when it is acknowledged that we are short staffed and have too much work for one person to handle alone. Over and over again. Place is kind of like being stuck in the movie Groundhog Day. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
We have a great team in the maintenance department! Im fairly new here so I know what is like at other places and I can honestly say that this is a good place to work.  We get to do a variety of work, no snow removal, and we have helpful and supportive leadership. On call on occasion but I don't get called  in very often. Every seven weekends isn't bad, Its nice to be off a few day during the week that week to get some things done.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Learning everything, like any new job,  is somewhat stressful but it all falls in place quickly. Everyone here was helpful as I became familiar with everything.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good people here.  I get to do a variety of work and will always be learning something new which is a bonus in my book.

The director of nursing and chief nursing officer make a majority of decisions for inpatient and outpatient clinic services. They have let a number of well qualified individuals go and are forcing providers out. I don't think the President, CEO, and CMO have been included in the decision making. The director of quality and patient safety was forced out and now there is no one running that, which is scary. CME is not being tracked. Recently providers from infusion therapy, neurology, cardiology, wound care have been let go. These moves have plenty of employees scared, and the work environment is uncertain. In fact HR supports documented hostile work environments without taking any action. Constant budget cuts seem to come before patient care. Employee medical benefits were poor, I went through 2-3 Tiers of deductibles out of 5.

This is a "my retirement job" type of place.  Excellent benefits, 401K contribution is unmatched anywhere else, and they do a good job of trying to stay competitive with wages and bonuses.  WOrk like balance is great and the culture is the best I've had anywhere.  Only issue is it IS a medical center, so you can sort of disappear if you're not in a very visible role, and recent vaccine mandates were handled terribly by higher-ups.

Really, if you are already vaccinated for COVID and other diseases (or don't care if you get it), then apply here immediately, you won't regret it.  If you don't want the vax, it's an entirely different story.

Typically our day would start by getting report if we were in the ER for our shift. Other areas we would start by counting our money that is at the specific desk and then we would start our own daily report. Run our numbers for the day start printing our patients stuff for the day etc. 

The workplace culture is somewhat limited. Not a very large variety of culture. 

Working as an admissions clerk, you really have to learn to try to please every single patient that walks through the door, whether you know the answer or not- you figure it out for the convenience of the patient. 

The most enjoyable part of being in admissions if the daily encounters you have with such a variety of patients that walk through the door.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing-horrible experience. Was lied to during interview regarding scheduling and on-call duties. Specifically asked. Found on first day of job they were both required.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Could never be not even one minute late- would be an “occurrence”. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Tense. Regimented for new people. Borderline inappropriate for those that had been there longer. My supervisor shared her personal life details first day. Divorcé details, etc.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Just a struggle. Worst experience in 38 years of nursing.

Coworkers but still not worth the stress and incompetence

Piling on multiple full time jobs to one employee, management not knowing what’s in someone’s scope and not listening to employees when they make their scope known
