A typical day at work involved completing assigned tasks, working with team members, and ensuring that responsibilities were carried out efficiently and safely. I learned valuable skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and adapting to new challenges. Management was supportive, approachable, and provided clear guidance when needed. The workplace culture was respectful, collaborative, and encouraged employees to do their best. The hardest part of the job was handling busy periods and meeting deadlines while maintaining quality standards. The most enjoyable part was working with a great team, learning new skills, and contributing to the success of daily operations. Overall, the experience was rewarding and helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Management was very kind, respectful, and willing to work with my schedule. I was able to have a healthy work-life balance as well as pick up overtime if needed/wanted. My goal was to grow within the company and they worked with me to achieve this goal. The most enjoyable part of this job was being able to serve these privileged individuals and assisting them to have a better quality life by teaching/assisting with daily living skills to support their individual growth. Sometimes challenges were brought upon from client's behaviors but with patience and understanding it worked out. Management or on-call was just a phone call away if needed. The workplace culture was very positive. There was positive team work with coworkers and management. I learned a lot at this company for career growth, but had to leave for personal reasons. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
You can work on your time. And you get to takecare of seniors.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When your supervisor is unprofessional and lazy and you have to text him so many times about low stocks in clients house.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Caregiving, lighthouse, cleaning, meal prep, medication reminder, toileting, bath, doing the laundry, stocking up supplies, running errands, making shopping list, taking client to doctors appointment, shaving client, going shopping and taking all the trash out.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work all day with no lunch and when you supervisor for anything, he wouldn’t respond back and would take his time to call back and check what is going on.

They don’t pay (12.30) well for what you do with clients at home and in the community. Supervisors hardly ever keep contact. 3 call offs in 6 months mean you are fired even a leaving early for a family emergency is considered a call out. You have to switch your shifts or get coverage on your own if you request a day off. They make up fake policies and go back and fourth on them (policies not even noted in the employee handbook). This job is not for you if you have kids or an outside life. They want you to keep this job as your number 1 priority. Many houses are short staffed and everyone is stuck picking up the slack when the supervisors are suppose to come in and work those shifts if houses are hurting for staff. No movement within the company. They screw up training hours and regular hours.

Rarely see facilitator, training past orientation is non-existent most of the time. Client binders are not current and rarely updated with correct info. Information on broadcasts is often not complete, updated or accurate based on clients progress with goals and due lack of involvement in the home from facilitators. Overall communication not good. You are likely to feel discouraged, unappreciated, and disposable if you are in a DSP position. Hard work is ignored, benefits are bare minimum, raises are rare, turnover is high, always short staffed and those who do stay are overworked underpaid and never paid double time often shorted overtime too. 

It was a great workday and I enjoyed all of the employees and employersThis job has been rewarding I have met several different people and great clients to work for who are very caring and understanding and appreciative of the support I’ll miss them very much when I get a new jobYou don’t have to punch a clock clock now do you have a supervisor of you all day you’re self-starter and you’re out in the city streets all day not stuck in a building in your hours are flexible The concert this job is they don’t pay very well and they only get paid once a month

I enjoyed working for On My Own and with my clients. My problem was I did not make enough wages to live on my own. At the time I lived with a roommate who decided in September of this year I needed to find another place to live. At the same time the people who were taking care of my mother decided they couldn't any longer. I was giving thirty day notice. Both of my children in California didn't have and room for my mother and I to stay. My daughter and her boyfriend had room and they live in Greenville Texas. I put my two week notice at On My Own and moved to Texas. I forgot to mention is my mom has dementia and she cannot be left alone. If On My Own was available in Texas I would have requested a transfer.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is rewarding to help a client live their best life.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Clients may have very difficult behaviors. There can be a steep learning curve in the beginning. Communication between management and staff is essential.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work in client’s home, sometimes take them into community for shopping, eating out, recreation, medical appointments etc.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive, greet client, maybe have brief interaction with previous shift staff. Not always. Usually keep with client’s daily routine.

At On My Own I always felt supported, if there was a problem I could count on   management to work with me to solve any issues. I was treated with respect and more than that I genuinely felt appreciated. The bonuses were always nice too! The clients well being was really the priority and the main focus of the management team.  This really showed through at special functions for clients as well as their day to day activities. It was a privilege to be a part of a company that truly cares.

I worked for On My Own for 5 years. They hired me right out of college and it was a great place to learn and gain knowledge, to help me excel in my career path for the future. On my own has compassionate and hard working management that are there to support you and help you grow. Their dedication to their clients and their community, can be seen Through the structure of their company and the overall programs that they offer. I encourage all that are beginning their  careers or looking to gain more knowledge and experience to apply and look at what On My Own can offer for them.
