One River has been a great firm to work at over the past 6 years. I continue to work at One River CPAs because I really like my co-workers and the clients I work with. I have felt encouraged to choose which path I wanted to pursue (A&A vs. Tax) within the accounting profession, and am very thankful I have been able to experience both types of engagements. As a staff accountant, the variety of engagements I was tasked with helped me develop a lot of different accounting skills. 

Management stresses the importance of becoming an expert in a certain area/ industry once moving into the manager position. They are willing to providing resources and training to develop those skills.

The firm also participates/ strongly encourages community involvement. Several opportunities are given to volunteer or participate in events on company time. 

Sometimes the accounting profession can be a grind during tax season, but management strongly believes there needs to be a work/life balance. Employees are encouraged to work as much as they would like during tax season and are compensated through bonuses and earned time off during the summer. It is not uncommon to earn up to 7 weeks off after tax season. Max hours by anyone during tax season is 75 (by choice) and management often looks for tax staff to work 50+ hours. Average is usually 55-60 hours at the peak. 

Average hours worked May - Mid August is 32 for tax staff and 40 for audit staff.

Employees are given the opportunity to work from home. Some staff have a hybrid work schedule where they may work every other day in the office. The firm gives max flexibility to their employees because they understand how valuable they are and they recognize the importance of dedicated staff staying for many years.  The firm invests a lot in their employees and they want them to stay for as long as possible. 

My understanding of management's philosophy is family comes first, but they want engaged professionals who want to be the best that they can be within the accounting profession. They want individuals who are compelled to read the Tax Advisor on a Sunday, but they also want to make sure every team member has the opportunity to attend their child's sporting or school events. 

Overall, it has been a great place to work.



This firm is very focused on teaching accountants right out of college. They also provide the opportunity to learn tax and auditing skills, which is really beneficial for new accountants that are unsure of their career path. Upper management is very focused on taking the time for teaching and creating a positive environment for all staff. I really enjoy working with all my co-workers. 

One River offer’s great benefits for new accountants working towards their CPA career goals! They also offer great flexibility and the ability to work partially remote. Really great place to work!


During tax season (January through April) the work was fast-paced but enjoyable.  Once tax season ended, I only worked 14-24 hours weekly and it was very slow and tedious.
Management seemed very involved and willing to listen.
Workplace culture was enjoyable most of the time.
Hardest part of the job was not having anything to do after tax season.
Most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with, both CPAs and staff.

The firm is professional, committed to training and education, helps staff succeed and stay with the company long-term, and the firm is growing. Workplace culture is comfortable, easy to talk to and work with management/directors, and flexible. 

Upper management lacked communication and professionalism and did not treat all staff equal. Often felt talked down to and did not feel that management took an interest in advancement for all just a certain few. 

Mentors and management take the time to listen to those who want to work life balance.

Schedules can be adjusted for those who choose to have reduced schedules.  Once the schedule is adjusted management does not  demand more.

This company is actively involved in the community and never waivers at an opportunity to contribute resources where they can. They offer a great work/life balance and strive to be flexible for their employees. Benefits, paid time off, 401K, and constant opportunities for growth are only a few of the added benefits!

I love this company and this job! The management is professional and friendly. The staff are good to work with and willing to explain things well.  Then work environment is busy and the clients are great. Overall, the company cares both for the employee and the client. Great place to work!

I love that this field is constantly changing and there is always more to learn.  I enjoy both the client and coworker relationships.  Management is supportive and encourages career growth.  Workplace culture is warm and welcoming, a great group of people to work with.

The current management understands that happy employees who are challenged and appropriately rewarded and supported are the real key to the Firm's success.
