Very poor place to work. Management priority is to "fill the beds" regardless of patient's needs or the dangerously understaffed units. Nurse Managers are unable to voice very valid concerns regarding the dangerous staffing ratios without the threat of being fired. Unrealistic PTO procedures (staff is just outright denies PTO requests because of the chronically poor staffing ratios, if you call in more than 4 times in a 6 month period you will be "written-up" meaning you cannot transfer to a different position within the hospital, or ECF, until you are off the probationary/reeducation period. Awful, awful, awful. Cannot stress this enough. At the ECF, if you are an RN, you will be expected to assess all of your patients (40 patients on each unit), perform all assessments, wound vac dressing changes, administer all IV medications, perform all PICC dressing care, update care plan on every patient, serve as the House Supervisor (when there isn't one staffed or if the one available call in) in addition to the Unit Manager, handle all patient complaints, all employee disciplinary actions, ect. You will not be given any training or orientation to your job position. You are expected to "learn it as you go." You will receive no formal training for their computerized charting EMR. You will shown on the floor as you work your job and try to juggle all of your responsibilities, ect.

Healthcare is ever changing therefore a career at Oneida Healthcare is challenging yet personally rewarding to always learn and grow.  Providing adequate healthcare and exceptional patient customer service is our number one priority.  Unfortunately some of our patients receive services without insurance making for an uncomfortable financial experience for our patients as well as staff assisting our patients in the best way we can.  Learning to understand our patients needs as well as portraying professional advice to our patients is an on going learning experience for all staff however rewarding when we're able to help them ease their  financial circumstances during these unfortunate times.   In the last few years, I have been fortunate to work in numerous departments throughout the facility allowing myself  to understand and view the hospitals process as a whole rather than one stage allowing for a better understanding of the work flow and how different circumstances affect different departments.  Learning each step helps others understand what their place of the process does for our facility as one.

If you’re looking for a workplace where you’ll be overworked, underpaid, and completely unappreciated, Oneida Health is a perfect fit.
Management has no problem continuously piling on responsibilities without offering any additional compensation or support. When employees leave, they aren’t replaced, because why would they be? It’s much easier to dump their workload onto the already overwhelmed staff who are expected to just “figure it out.”
Hard work and loyalty mean absolutely nothing here. Long-term employees who dedicate years, nearly decades of their lives to this place are treated as disposable the second it becomes convenient. Going above and beyond doesn’t earn respect, it just guarantees you’ll be taken advantage of even more.
Leadership is inconsistent at best and blatantly unfair at worst. Decisions feel arbitrary, favoritism is obvious, and certain managers seem to operate without any accountability whatsoever.
Morale is low for a reason. People aren’t leaving because they want to, they’re leaving because they’re burned out, fed up, and tired of being walked all over.
Consider this your warning.

Do not expect for one moment to be treated with respect. Do not think your education and good work ethic is valued. Do not think you are useful and intelligent. 
  We all understand that a hospital is a business, needing to make money.  Does Oneida Health have to make it so obvious that the almighty dollar is all that matters?  Oneida Health changed their name recently . They are no longer known as Oneida Healthcare, changed to Oneida Health, because they no longer care. Oneida Health does not care about their employees on any level, only doing what works best at bringing in more dollars. Oneida Health only cares  about patients when they may lose money, then conveniently hospital staff is to blame and are thrown under the bus.  There have been a multitude of sins caused by Oneida Health's management. Don't see and don't tell are Oneida Health's views on good and bad behavior, depending on what they are trying to cover.
If you are one of the workers who "fit in" with management then there are no limits to how you may behave. I have been witness to years of favoritism and cover ups for favored employees. 

Typical day at work is passing medications and treatments. Talking with MD, admits/discharges, as well as doing routine computer work for ADLs, and new orders. Workplace atmosphere is good for the most part, but very short staffed and you do get mandated. Be prepared to work an entire shift without having a lunch break because management finds more things for you to do, and no coverage for the floor. Nurses that are seasoned there are very stressed, so when management expects you to run the floor with 40 residents alone, plus play secretary for the phone, plus make sure the CNAs are doing their jobs and answering call bells, PLUS try to train a new nurse properly…it does not always happen the way it should. So this is what probably drives the new nurses out. Otherwise it would be a great place to work. You must be an experienced nurse and be able to work on your own in order to prosper here.

Working at Oneida Healthcare was an experience I enjoyed and hated. Management was poor in the way problems where handled and addressed. Instead of dealing with things in a mature fair manner it was the opposite. Just my experience and what I saw indirectly and directly it was like watching drama in a high school setting. To try to go up the ladder and deal with issues was the same, upper management acted as if they care but when it came to workers and issues action showed different. 

Working with RN's, LPN's, Aides, Doctor's and Ward Clerk's was a joy and learned alot, great bunch of workers.

Better management, better communication skills, better problem solving and more encouragement to the staff that holds the place together.

Began as a secretary for the Director of Nursing.  Answered phone for her as well as corrected all policies and procedures brought to my attention by head nurses.  Recorded weekly minutes at our Head Nurses meeting every week and distributed the minutes to all department head nurses when complete.  

Than became a Ward Secretary Float, and worked as such on 4E, 4W, OB, ER, and the OR.  Secretary on each unit when the regular staffed Ward secretary had an approved absence.  Answered phone, assisted doctors with any needs.  Recorded live births on OB, Recorded Surgeies and filed codes for surgeries in OR.  Etc

It’s the same as any other hospital in the area. High turnover, short staffing, and low pay for not only the amount of physical work that is expected, but the mental stress and the amount of liability/responsibility. Administration completely out of touch. Poor communication between management and staff as well. Lots of favoritism. Some nurses get away with doing the absolute bare minimum (some even get promoted for it) while others are run absolutely ragged and never get any credit for it.  I’ve also been pretty shocked by the poor education and lacking skill sets of some of the RNs who are employed here, especially in critical care areas. Like I said, par for the course for hospitals in this area. 

At first I was excited and had hope to make this my long term employment. Most of my coworkers were friendly and helpful. The management in my department was severely lacking. I was turned down requested time off for a family members funeral and hassled about sick time off with a doctors note after a loss of pregnancy. The supervisors lacked empathy and compassion and were mostly rude and condescending. Other departments are run quite well with kinship and very little negativity. There is room for advancement depending on your field. The company throws an annual employee appreciation barbecue.

I was recruited because they were looking for an experienced nurse. However, I was met with a divisive staff of nurses who were either poorly trained, ignorant, or lazy. Perhaps all of the above. Otherwise, I love nursing and working with the patients. That is the reward.
Management is difficult because they are non-supportive. I seldom received lunches and breaks, even though I worked 12-hour shifts; no one seemed to care. But yet, I was expected to work overtime at the blink of an eye.
When I started, I was promised a sign-on bonus, but after a month, they reneged!
