Fortunately I love what I do.  The frustration comes into the equation when you need something from management.  They give you the nod, and you wait for the request to be completed.  The advancement rate is poor, because once they like where you are at, ie graveyards, you are stuck as it is difficult to fill those positions with dependable peeps that can do the work and work independently with out supervision, so in a sense you are punished for being a great worker.  So Frustrated.  The people that get the promotions are the peeps that are seen daily, PM's and graves are kind of a forgotten island.  Even when applying for a position, you wont get a call for an interview.  The equipment is subpar, something is always broken a bucky that needs constant adjustment just to use. Collimators that dont collimate. We have two portables, and one is down at least once a month.  If the CT scanner goes down we have to transport the pt to the clinic and use the scanner down there, which is fine as it used to be at the hospital, no contrast can be administered at that site.  These things are all things that come with the job, Creativity and flexibility, but Management doesnt acknowledge this, you will work really hard, only to hear about your mistakes.  No encouragement, no kudos. No equality among the Technologists, ie some techs are working without Fluoro licenses, and therefore dont go to surgery, or do fluoro, yet are paid the same

The reason I have remained here in this position for so long is due exclusively to the fact that my coworkers on my unit are absolutely the best people to work with. Great teamwork and mutual support with limited resources provided from management. 
It is truly disheartening to know that others on other units are getting paid more or earning overtime with easier tasks when certain units are struggling for help. (Specifically the lack of CNAs and the low pay the CNAs receive.)
Most days it’s difficulty to leave on time as we frequently have charting to complete as we end up doing total care for patients (due to no CNAs staffed to help). 
Clinical supervisors are infrequently seen on the floor to assist, frequently charge nurses are also in care ( which means not only are they overseeing the Registered Nurses and all patients, but are also doing patient care for their own 5 patients.)  We have no break relief, no float nurses to help, no lift team, and very few CNAs. 
The biggest issue is lack of strong leadership, it’s as if everyone in management either does not care or is hiding and avoiding being in charge and setting some clear rules. They don’t ever give us positive feedback ( or any feedback unless it’s our annual review time) and as a result morale is low. 

The hospital is going through many changes right now and while the people that work there are dedicated and loyal, they are the lowest paid workers excluding X-ray Nurses and MD- the rest of the support staff is paid the lowest in the north state area so it’s difficult to keep new staff. They laid off last spring workers that had been there for years to cut corners and save money from all departments yet are short staffed.the company has no loyalty towards some staff that becomes ill  and then other staff can do as they please with no consequences. Nepotism is rampant and if you’re not part of the group -you are not  treated the same or given the same opportunities. Upper management needs to be more hands on and see just how hard the staff work- mid level management is great but their hands are tied. A typical day the floor will have two CNA, three if lucky however sometimes only one so patients are waiting to be helped longer than it should take. All of this effects your job performance to do your job in a timely manner and effects the care of your patients. The good part of the job is the workers that have stayed and have been good loyal employees. They are helpful and caring and do help new hires to succeed




Worked there for 1.5 years out of all the places I've worked this has to be the most degrading place I have ever had the pleasure of working in. My manager was very controlling and had to always let me know there the boss like as if I would forget thats why you hold your position duh! I worked so hard to prove myself only for it to go unnoticed. When I asked for an appropriate wage adjustment for everything I was doing I was told I had to show more. This feeling of unappreciation made me feel like when I was a teen working in the fields and when I asked the farmer to pay me he payed me only half and said your lucky I dont deport you and call ICE! Thats how low I felt. I will never go back with the current management that is there from 2019 to current 2021. The staff are great you really build a bond with everyone and everyone works really hard I wish they would appreciate the staff that keep it running but there is little recognition with all that you do. I hope they improve on this as this makes a difference in morale and how well everyone works. You get more by just saying your are doing a good job.

Learning opportunities.
One of the few hospitals in the northern California area that will hire new grad nurses.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very difficult and chronically ill patient population.
Poor management and leadership.
Poor staffing, especially support staff.
Lack of resources and evidence based practice. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
About half the nursing staff have less than 1 year of experience, high stress, who cares attitude from many providers and nurses. Complete lack of policy and procedure The wild west with some really great people that you can bond with over your shared stress and trauma.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Have anxiety and/or dread on your way to work. Show up early off the clock to prepare yourself (spend 5 minutes researching each pt) then it's usually a non-stop blur until you give report and finally clock out. Drive home feeling inadequate because it's impossible to be the nurse you want to be.

Management
In general, managers at Oroville Hospital were respectful in punishments but didn’t provide enough support where it was obviously needed within the department.

Overall
My experience working at Oroville Hospital was absolutely insane. Management will purposely start drama just to watch it happen. No micromanaging happens when it’s needed so everyone is on edge with each other. Huge high school feeling drama fest. Getting work completed is a huge passive aggressive fight with anyone you work around. Depending on what department you are assigned to, it varies on how you’ll be treated by supervisors and other employees of that department. People with the most seniority can be seen on their cellphones and taking long breaks but if a newer employee does the same they’re immediately punished. Every rule is very conditional. There’s a huge red flag when they have a lot of job openings for this position all year round. The turnover rate for this position specifically is insane, but not surprising due to it being not worth the pay rate to feel bullied at work.

Job culture? Hah. Funny.

If you want to be stressed out, and feel unappreciated then this is the place to work at! 9 out of 10 times I was stressed out while working here. You ever get reamed by your boss? Yeah, it happens here to yourself or other coworkers. Department heads will ream your boss, therefore your boss will ream you.

After training, it was being thrown in the den of wolves, either you sink or swim type of deal. Speaking of training? HA! Funny. No structure. Enjoy working solo overnight? You'll get that shift because you're the lowest man on the totem pole.

Everyday was something new, and trust me, the stories you hear are true. Employees and their boss having a screaming match? Wows. I've never felt like a number until I worked here. As they say, the show goes on with or without you.

One of the most horrible Hospitals I've ever worked at. From the highest managment down, they do not care about the patients care or experience. I don't understand how being a unionized place, the pay is so low. I feel so sad for the way the staff and the patients are treated, the management literally only cared about money. I worked with so many good nurses and CNAs that deserve better working conditions, from the pay to the patients ratios, having working equipment to a working air conditioning system and a roof that didn't leak.  These are all things that are simply unacceptable at other facilities. They pretty much hire all new grads to get away with paying so little and have no incentive for longevity.

Not enough help to care for patients properly.
CEO is the highest paid CEO in northern California. You would think he would put some of that money back to help the patients in the hospital. 
The hospital needs cosmetic work but no one seems to be able to keep up with it.

People seem to leave quickly and not even stay past 1 year of working there. Also is all people cared meaning management and the CEO the hospital would be a better place to work at. The hospital needs proper staffing in every department.
 I hope it gets better with time, but who knows what the future holds for that hospital. Only time can tell when people actually start to care about their staff and how the hospital looks and is ran.
