This was my first job ever in my life. I loved how you can create your own schedule and pick the families you want to work with. It does require lots of driving since you drive to the families' homes. I worked with two families in one day. From Lathrop to Lodi. It was quite stressful but manageable. I would say the pay was okay but you don't earn a lot of money if you only have one family or two families to work with. You would need more.  When I was there for a year, I worked with four families. Also every time you work with a new family it can take one week to three weeks to get approved to start working with them. Sometimes the family cancels on you because either they are going out of town or they are sick. So you don't get paid and your paycheck isn't consistent.  But the staff/office are really kind people and they are willing to help you if you need it. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The management is great. The company respects the clients as well as their employees. You choose your hours and days you want to work. It is a great company to work for 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are challenging days with clients. However the good out weights the bad.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For the most part, you don't see co workers daily. You work on your own with individual families. The work environment is very caring. They have several office celebrations during the year to bring caregivers & office staff together. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You drive directly  to the clients house. Have activities ready to share with the client. Prepare snacks and meals. Provide a safe and fun environment for the client.

Under this company, I worked with kids ($13) and seniors ($15). For the kiddos, the most amount of hours you will get is 120 hours each 3 months per client with additional pay IF they have siblings. There is no typical day with this job because different families will have different expectations. 

For one family, you can run around like a chicken with its head cut off + potty training + behavior issues that you have no clue what to do with. While another family will just want you to sit there and do nothing because they need an adult to be in the house for certain services to happen. 

For seniors, the clients pay the hours you work with no maximums. 

The pay for this company isn't the best, it's low especially with how much you have to deal with. It's also low so you're unable to move out and find your own place. Depending on the family, you get a certain amount of hours per month. The only time I would really work is over summer because you're able to work more hours over a summer then you are during any other month or season. When you tell people you work with kids on the spectrum, they tell you what you're doing is amazing. But the pay is the worst, I always thought if a company or person wants to keep you on they should pay you for what you're worth. $11 an hour isn't much with everything you have to do with these kids. Makes you feel very underappreciated.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Caring and show great interest and real for their employees. Provide continuous training. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Wish I had more availability to provide respite care for those in need. No direct stress from the company.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Professional courteous staff. Many locations throughout California.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Being prompt, prepared and energetic. My schedule is flexible to the clients needs. May include an early day starting at 7am or a later time starting at 6pm.

Providing care for a disabled brother can be challenging at first but it only gets easier after learning the routine. Observing how my mom meet my brother's needs for many years made this job simple for me after a few days. Hardest part about the job was getting use to medication schedule because he has to take a certain amount of pills every two hours or so. A person taking about 8 different kinds of medicine can get confusing in the beginning. I learned patience is a virtue while teaching him how to be more independent. If I was not his brother, I would love to have the job of providing in-home care for him. He's such a joy to be around as he is very friendly and loves to talk.

I have really enjoyed working for Pacific Homecare as a Respite Care Provider. I've been with my two clients since I was hired by the company in Spring '19 and have never had any issues with my placement. There are opportunities to take on additional clients but it's 100% my choice. I've never felt pressure to take on more than I can comfortably handle. The Modesto office staff are very supportive and easy to get a hold of. I hardly ever see my "coworkers" because I work in my clients homes and nearly everything is handled via phone or email but that doesn't bother me. As a mother of 3 and college student, this job offers me the flexibility I need.

You are offered “sibling care” and end up making less money than if you worked with a single client. Can’t use clients restroom, no breaks, if you leave a client you are punished. They offer you 3 clients when you get hired, but I’ve never worked with more than 1. The company will pause or put your clients on hold for months at a time at times or even drop them without previously notifying you. They only offer the office jobs to people on the inside.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They are very easy to work for. Caregivering is such a rewarding job and I enjoyed working for Pacific Homecare.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not stressful for me. I liked working their.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Casual and interesting  environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would provide caregiving services to my client. I would assist them with activities of daily living. Preparing meals and cleaning,  doing laundry and transportation to Doctor appointments.

Schedule was  set as per clients needs. Often evening and weekend hours. Often outside activities as well as in-home activities. Could be stressful at times due to behavior needs of the children.  Parents often do not disclose the children’s habits  which could put you in an unsafe environment.  For instance, the parents did not disclose that the child had a habit of running away.  So that would include at school or at a park etc.
