The biggest challenge was the lack of effective training and support. Much of the training was done by non-management staff, and I was discouraged by management from asking questions in real time, instead being instructed to wait for meetings with leadership. This unnecessarily slowed the learning process and created confusion during onboarding. The lack of support extended beyond training. Employees were not always provided with the tools needed to succeed. For example, it took several weeks to gain access to an email account that was essential to performing basic responsibilities. 

The overall culture felt heavy, rigid, and highly micromanaged. Employee engagement and morale were not priorities, and attempts to introduce ideas to improve communication, morale, and team culture were met with resistance or entirely dismissed. The tone established by leadership contributed to an environment that felt more focused on control than collaboration.  Performance expectations often felt one-size-fits-all. Even during slower periods when there was simply less work available, employees were still expected to maintain the same production metrics. Overall, there seemed to be a preference for rigid adherence to metrics rather than taking a more thoughtful, case-by-case approach to managing people and workloads.  

Weekly meetings offered little value beyond reading aloud each employee’s metrics one at a time. They lacked meaningful training, recognition, team building, or opportunities for professional development. Suggestions to make these meetings more productive and engaging were not embraced.  There also appeared to be a lack of follow-through and accountability from leadership. Updates and timelines were communicated to employees, but commitments were not always fulfilled when expected.

Collaboration amongst leaders was very limited, and differing viewpoints or process improvement ideas often seemed unwelcome. Success appeared to depend more on fitting a particular leadership style and personality than on encouraging growth, feedback, or new ideas.

Despite actively seeking feedback, meeting the expectations communicated to me, and seeing the team achieve multiple performance records during my tenure, I was ultimately informed that I “lacked the necessary skills to effectively manage the team.” This came without meaningful prior feedback, specific examples, or a clear opportunity to improve, making the decision feel inconsistent with both my experience and the results achieved.  

Additionally, the office environment itself felt outdated and poorly maintained. Employee laptops were consistently slow and lacked sufficient storage. The physical workspace showed visible signs of deferred maintenance, including AC vents with heavy dust buildup and stained ceiling tiles, which did not align with the level of professionalism one would expect from a healthcare organization.  Despite housing a department of more than 30 employees, there were only two bathrooms available, often resulting in lines throughout the workday. 
While the company did provide a well-stocked snack area, the overall condition of the office and lack of investment in the workspace conveyed that employee experience was not a priority.

If you are looking to get started with a career in population health, PBACO is a great place to work. Remaining at the top of the field is tough, and a lot is expected from employees but those that work hard and stay the course are rewarded. 

There is nowhere else in the country where you can get the type of skills and knowledge that comes with working at one of the premier ACOs in the country.

Everything was so micro managed, there was terrible communication and no proper training. The work environment is hostile and overall very unpleasant. The company is very favoritism based and that’s the only way to progress in the company. Management is rude and stuck up, treat’s employees terribly. HR is not really HR just a friend of management. The turn over rate is terrible and with good reason, no one wants to stay.

The overall appearance and structure of the office was no great for me.  I had applied for other jobs and was praying they would contact me before PBACO.  PBACO send me an offer same day. I declined all other offers.  Quit after only a couple months.  About 20 employees have left in less than a year.

Management is very week to take care of new charges in system.
Hardest part of my job was to explain new ideas to stupid team leaders and why do u want to bring change. There is no one to appreciate your work and no one to guide you whether u are doing good or bad.

I learned extensively about GPRO auditing/MIPS. Rolling out reports to my assigned offices. Maintained a great relationship with most if not all my Physicians.   

The company is fine. They offer free health insurance for employees. They could offer better pay based on experience however. They also have pretty flexible schedules, tuition reimbursement after 1 year, and a nice PTO package. 

Stay away at all costs, joining this company was the worst mistake I have made. Horrible management, too much work, for minimal pay. There is little to no flexibility with personal time. Stay away from this place

I was an intern in the data analytics department and was given a fair workload for my experience. Coworkers were very helpful and management was receptive to my input into the workflow.

The owners don’t care about the hard working people they employ. They say the pay a lot, maybe they do but there is zero support and leadership within.
