Typical day at work? Stressful. Why? Not enough support, always short-staffed (yet management claims there’s no staffing issue), we are expected to do things unethically at times. Workplace culture? Favoritism, gossips and rumors, and so many staff don’t care about the patients. You’re rewarded if you don’t do a good job, surprisingly, as long as you don’t give them a hard time. And there is significant disparity in pay across the same position throughout all the positions in the hospital. Some therapists are paid more than others? Why? Who knows. Some nurses are paid more than others. Some techs are paid more than others. And raises/bonuses do not exist here. The most enjoyable part of the job is going home. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everyone understands their roles and implements professional development strategies. 


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When someone calls in. 
Most codes occurred because of understaffed shifts. It’s a behavior hospital, therefore the patients know when they’re understaffed. 
Solution: PRNs, agency, and part time. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a family. Small town. Everyone knows each other via from high school, social media, and after work recreational activities. There is nepotism, but that’s probably everywhere. 
I was an outsider, but they really respected me and treated me like their own. I won’t forget them. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
BUSY! Fast pace

There are a lot of staff who care about patients but management tends to ask so much of everyone (beyond ability) that staff consistently leave. Upper management has seen so many changes that every year there’s new directives, making it nearly impossible to meet expectations. Management has been hired by administration that have minimal if any floor experience and don’t understand what patient care actually consists of. Patient care is stressed yet there’s not enough staff to follow through on it. On the chance there is, people will be flexed to accommodate a lower census. All in all, it makes it difficult to keep an experienced team together when the stress becomes too much. 

Staff is great but once you get to the administrative level that changes. Administration does not take employees into consideration. They change schedules with short notice ex. 3 day notice for a monthly schedule change. Administration is always changing so nothing is consistent. It is all about the patients except when the number of patients goes below 40 then they start sending employees home regardless of patient and employee safety. Promised pay increase with no follow through from HR. They will use any excuse not to give their employees a raise

Working at Palms can be challenging. Employees are often assigned additional responsibilities without corresponding compensation, and expectations are high. Favoritism can influence advancement, with raises more likely granted to those favored by administration. Despite these challenges, I found the work meaningful and stayed longer because of my coworkers and the opportunity to support individuals in crisis. However, Palms tends to undervalue dedicated, hardworking, and reliable employees, and raises are typically offered only when an employee indicates an intent to leave.

As a formal MHT employee at palms I wouldn't recommend it at all. Management under qualified, employees under valued, patients are not their 1st priority, lots of favoritism, dangerous environment, healthcare not free, racism, bias,discrimination, short lunches for a 12hr shift, reward is a pizza party, always under staffed, you get timed when being in the bathroom, lack of privacy, they go through your social media, hires anyone and everyone. 


Nurse and techs are awesome! They will work together as a team! Just be careful with Upper management can be sneaky and have their favorites. Patients come first and their safety. Patients for the most part just need someone to vent to to just sit there and listen. When a patient is in a crisis your main priority is that they are safe, you’ll always be redirecting.

The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the impact and improvement that you can make in an individuals life. This job is not for the faint of heart, but it definitely is worth it! Management is extremely resourceful when it comes to knowledge, communication, and the understanding for the do’s and donts. I seriously love that aspect with this company too! There really is never a dumb question throughout out any department. If you ask, they’ll surely tell you in detail.

This workplace was a difficult place to work at due to being short staffed most of the time. At times ran smoothly however because of the line of work and the type of patients whom resided there it was a hostile workplace at times. The staff was wonderful, many were extremely friendly and helpful. However, there was those few who did not quite work well as a team. In the field there should be nothing but teamwork.

Working night shift is fairly simple compared to the day shift. Most of the time it’s chill depending on which unit, you learn to be very vigilant/ alert taking care of patients. Management is up and down, they will give you time off if needed for something serious, unpaid of course, decent pto 4hrs every paycheck goes to 6hrs after a year. They’ll try and work with your schedule. Hardest part of the job would probably being short staffed a lot of the times and the schedule changing every month.
