Pathways of the River Valley is a great place to work and see instant rewards in what you do. We have a excellent mission and all the staff that works here, thrive to achieve the mission. We provide Day and residential services and also Outreach. We work with individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Traumatic Brain Injuries and we are a Non-Profit. 

If you are looking to get rich, this is not the job for you as human services is about giving back to the community and supporting those that need it the most. If you want to make a difference in someone's life and be able to go home at the end of the day and know that you made a difference than this is it. You should apply for a job with this company.

I have learned so much from Pathways of the River Valley and I am glad that I work here. The staff and management teams try their best to encourage growth for their teams and individuals and bestow professional development with the ones they supervise. I have been in Human Services for 10 years and this company tries it best to make everyone happy. 

Human Services is not for everyone, but with the support we offer here and the support network, Pathways is a great place to work if you been in the field for a long time, or want to change careers or just graduated from High school. They are so petty in the office,. They work from home most days and expect staff that is out in the field to travel to them for stupid things such as a signiture that THEY forgot to have you sign. They make things as hard as possible and are in the business of not making staff/families aware of convenient programs that would help. The ONLY time they will go out of their way is to scold you. They are huge bullies and use scare tactics such as threatening to "take you off of the schedule" for the silliest of reasons. Forget getting help, don't even bother asking because you ain't gettin it! You'll have to do your own research. They don't appreciate their staff and it most certainly shows. If you can get past all of that, the families can be hit or miss. Sometimes you get put with a great family that supports you as an employee. The way you SHOULD be supported. Sometimes they even treat you like one of their own. Pathways frowns upon this. Can't get too close to the families even though you are literally in there home every day you are working... Try to make sense of that one. Sometimes families can be tough to work with though. Some individuals are easy to work with and some aren't. It's all about what you can handle. The pay is sad considering what you are doing. This is really a national issue. Things like bathrooming and hygiene related activities are pretty standard with a lot of the clients. The only positive things I have to say revolve around the family I work for which I cannot discuss the details of. 

I am a former employee of Pathways located in Claremont, NH. This is hands down the worst company I have ever worked for. You don't get paid good at all. Management was not helpful, and barely communicated when you needed help. The benefits absolutely sucked. They don't care what happens to your car, since you have to use one for this job. The only thing I enjoyed about this job was the individuals I got to work with, and help on a daily basis. Other than that, I never felt valued or appreciated as an employee. I would work in multiple departments to help, and my hard work was always ignored. I do NOT recommend anyone to work here. When you needed help and contact a manager they would take hours to reply or they wouldn't reply at all. Not to mention that if you were to drive to the office where they are located for assistance you'd be lucky if you found a manager working in the office. They tended to not be around as much as you would expect a manager to be. They cared more about getting their morning coffee than to help employees, who are the reason this company even makes money. I could go on, but bottom line, don't apply here. It's a horrible company to work for.

Pick up & drop off clients daily at their homes. Transport clients to dr's appointments, shopping, outings, special agency outings & picnics, support clients at their jobs, meetings, lunch, fitness centers, art classes & library. I've learned a great deal about developmental disabilities and the clients I supported and how they live with it on a daily basis. They are very brave and opened my eyes and my heart. Management is very supportive of their employees. I always followed instructions, communicate and had no problems. All of my co-workers and I got along great. We all worked well together. Shared work related information of clients when appropriate. The hardest part of the job is when I had to stop working with certain clients to support other clients and passing of clients. The most enjoyable part is when you see them have the biggest smile on their faces and they say to you " I had the best time in my life". Those are the days that really make my job worth waking up in the morning for.

PathWays is extremely dedicated to providing the best support they possibly can. Nationwide there is a shortage in staff but PathWays works very hard to fill the gaps and provide the best care no matter what. Senior Leadership is experienced, knowledgeable and very dedicated to the work that they do! On a management and service coordination level the teams are friendly, hardworking and dedicated to the work that they do every day for the individuals they support. The Service Coordination team is very strong and committed to providing quality supports. DSP's and Personal Mentors are so incredibly important and may at times feel under appreciated but they really are the glue that holds it all together. Without the DSP's and Mentors the individuals would not have the ability to be an active member in our community. Thank you to the direct support workers that give it their all every single day just to put a smile on an individuals face.

I worked with a variety of people from many different cultures and backgrounds.  It was very exciting. 
Some of the coworkers are extremely helpful and ithers not so much. Many different learning and management styles are employed here.
Covid and other factors made this a very difficult learning environment  and most of the work I had to learn on my own, in my own home, with little face to face. Many documents are similar and make it difficult to discern what is actually needed, without a coworker to explain.  Management prefers, little interaction and oversite and expects one to be very independent. Hps are considered contracted employees and are sometimes given a false security  of support. when in fact, if they need real help, are told , we cant support them. 

PathWays has a wonderful mission and very fulfilling job but some management gets away with treating employees very poorly. I also do a WIDE range of duties that I am not compensated for. If you name it, I probably do it. My IT experience is very strong and I am asked to do a lot of things and IT person would do but I am not compensated for it. Days are very busy and always different which is awesome. The problem lies in hourly wages and management, other wise I would stay here forever. PathWays has a wonderful benefits package that you will not find anywhere else. The employees over all are great. There are a few cliques and a few favorites that seem to get away with any and everything, but I think that is typical in any work place environment.

During Covid I was cut from 25 hours to 11 hours a week even though the individual I worked with usually was in day program longer than that in a week before Covid and all they said was well, they are only approved for a certain amount of hours. So to save the company money, they cut client's hours which made home providers frustrated and left their employees with not enough hours and no sick time to cover. I was made into a full time personnel and then a month later my hours were taken away from me because I had a physically disability. I list hours and had given up my full time for this. The management does not have their employees backs or best interests in mind and it shows that they dont have their clients best interests in mind either. I feel bad for all new employees. 

85 % turnover. High Stress. Many people develope abdominal health problems. No breaks, no lunch. Typical day maybe you're called into work because someone didn't show up because that happens so often you have to cover for other individuals. Pretty much you're on your own to figure out problem solving. There are trainings available throughout the year that are mandated. The lack of supervision to help you is the biggest problem because everyone is stretched to their limit and really doesn't have time 4 proactively planning its reactively for every crisis that comes up and it's crisis management all the time.

Non-profits exist to provide a service and fulfill a mission; PathWays does both and generally does both well. The biggest strength of PathWays is its employees, particularly its direct care staff who work hard and help others in their community to live a better life.  What PathWays still needs to develop is a stronger internal set of values and a balance between serving constituents while supporting employees. Sometimes employees are overlooked in the support of constituents and the mission.  Finding ways to improve compensation rates, incorporate better training and support for managers and developing and/or maintaining an overall sense of trust and appreciation of and for employees would make a big difference.
