They hired me as an HR tech rep, after being here for about 7 months and finally having a good grasp on the job they randomly forced me to work payroll with no additional compensation or training. They insisted I should know the system well enough and learn as I go. They also made this switch during year end so asking for help was impossible and typically ignored/run around. I have begged for additional help and get told I got this and keep trying. Half of the articles they give us to reference are a joke and the system is so sloppy. After three months of not hitting the insane goals they have because news flash I don’t know what I’m doing I’m now being threatened my job. 

What’s even worse is their point policy. If you miss a day during peak times (which is half the year) it’s 1.75 points, if you get 6 it’s a write up, 10 and you’re fired. If you have perfect attendance for a month you can make .5 back. Meaning if you are sick for 2 days in a month, you get no points back and you just made yourself 3.5 in points. It adds up super fast within a few months if you have anything come up. I got in a bad car wreck and missed 4 days due to being in a hospital and managed to rack up almost 7 points. They do not accept drs notes and their LOA is a joke. Remote is great but not at the same time. The lack of communication makes it almost impossible to stay in the loop so you’re constantly fighting for help, or information. I loved this job when I first started but now with all of these new random job additions being forced on employees when NO compensation might I add I can see why the turnover is so high. Payroll is a massive department and not being properly trained or trained at all is not only unfair to clients but stressful to employees. Every shift feels like I’m running around with my head cut off. Managers will talk down to you 24/7. 

Computer stopped working and Paycor wanted me to go out and spend my money to buy equipment to fix it because they didn’t carry it, then when it didn’t work they sent me a new laptop. After the whole ordeal I got a very long zoom call being talked down to by a manager about how long THIER process took and how I should have done better to make it go faster. The disrespect alone is insulting. I’ve seen people who have been here for years bounce due to these exact issues. Whatever changes they are doing are going to lose them a lot of reps. 

I started the company doing contract work. Small tasks like basic onboarding help and access issues, mostly inbound calls. About two weeks in was moved up to taking billing cases and passing them to the correct department. About a month in and I was working backline helping out with the risk department doing emails. These were very simple and clear cut. Loved it. Got really excited when I managed to get hired on in March. A week or so before my training was complete I was told I would be doing emails. Great! I love backline work! However, what I didn't know was that there was no easing  into this. Meaning that things that people knew who had been there for at least a year or people who came there from other companies where they worked with payroll, I was expected to know. With the same training all the other new hires got who were just going to be on the phones. I did not come from a payroll back ground, this was known. In addition, if you were on phones they could limit your que so you took calls you were actually trained on and not something super complicated right away. If you did manage to get something out of your depth you could reach out on the phone or even transfer the caller who knew a bit more. There was no such back up for emails.  I tried to communicate with management and asked to be put on phones until I could learn more and was basically told to deal with it. Even other coworkers had no clue why they did this. Long story short I spent my days being pushed around by sales reps, shuffled from one person to another when I needed help on something I knew nothing about, had no control over my schedule but would be chewed out if I didn't make room on my schedule for pop up meetings. Oh and I was also expected to hold up a crazy metric while also answering phones part of my shift. I went from an hour or two a day to half my shift and was expected to keep up with the email work as well. In the end I never stood a chance and they had no mercy. If you are not ready to swim through fire, I would reconsider. 

Since the pandemic, Paycor is mostly work from home. They rely heavily on Zoom meetings.  They shipped me a laptop and headphones.  They require 2 monitors to do the job properly.  Luckily, I had my own monitor.  I had to buy (they did not provide) an adapter to make it work with the laptop.  All training was virtual.  I was taught unemployment wage and tax adjustment forms.  Paycor does not provide training documents.  One employee shared his notes for all 50 states, which was nice, however it was incomplete and out of date. So, every case that was assigned to me, I had questions.  I also learned the 941-X form. There were no training instructions for this at all.  At my request, I asked that the trainer record the training sessions which was helpful.  I was told that they didn't have any training documents because they hadn't hired new people in a while.  Going back to the videos was cumbersome, so on my own time, I created step by step training documents with screen shots and I shared with the team. 

In addition, they trained me on W2C/W3 (again, no documentation).  I would get feedback on things that were never communicated to me. Major gaps in training!  My impression of this company is that they don't have it together.  Without proper training, they set new employees up to fail. 

I had high hopes for Paycor and really wanted it to work.  I gave 2 stars because there were some people in the department that were very helpful.  I feel that I left Paycor in a better place.  They now have instructions that they can share with the newer employees coming in.  Overall, I found working for Paycor to be a frustrating experience.  


This is the worst company of all time. It lacks true leadership and guidance. Always demanding more from sales reps while other departments have zero accountability. 

You are simply a number on a spreadsheet. The execs sit hundreds of miles away from their turf and only ever send demeaning emails as to why the numbers are not there. They are not in the field, doing the work. They are far too quick to turnover reps and they never ask themselves why. There is no brand recognition. There is no external interest. It is an exhausting job with no support. The implementation is terrible, the customer support is worse, and the managers have no empathy for having to work with these new customers to get them situated.  The focus is wokring as hard as possbile, and not smart.

The RSDs will lie to you on interviews. They will tell you how great this company is, and how in demand it is. Dont believe it. Do not get googly eyed over the salary offer.  If you dont have a deal in 120 days, you're on a performance plan. It takes the normal person this amount of time to even get acquainted in a new role. 

Paycor thinks its a Privlegde to work for them. It is the total opposite. God forbid you have something you want to express, to help you or make the job better or an idea or a critque. you will become the culture cancer and be put on the "bad list"
 I could not say enough bad things about working here. It is truly a prison. Run. Run away from this place fast. But hey, They believe in DEI. Thats all that matters

Initially, Paycor offered competitive pay, but gradually began to undervalue its long-standing employees. The company's lack of processes became evident, especially after shifting from in-person to remote training, which significantly dwindled in effectiveness. Implementation consultants faced overwhelming workloads, juggling between 50 to 90 client accounts simultaneously, with the expectation centered not on the quality of work but merely on getting clients to a billable status. Additionally, the support team, already stretched thin and lacking in-depth product knowledge, suffered further as support was outsourced—a decision that only compounded the issues. The outsourced support team's lack of familiarity with the product and payroll processes meant clients often had to be redirected back to domestic support for genuine assistance. The implementation process itself was fraught with challenges, and post-implementation support was virtually absent. Clients needing assistance with correcting tax errors made during payroll processing found themselves in particularly dire straits, highlighting the systemic issues within the company's approach to client service and employee support.

As an entry level customer service rep you are told that you are not going into a "call center" when really thats exactly what it is. You are dealing with 1 -200 + person businesses and all levels of payroll and tax issues which you may not have any background in. The training program, though they try to prep you can only do so much. You get to know your frequent callers by name and you will definitely have frequent callers. Now the culture is great, you work with nice people that you can actually stand to be around! And may even want to hang out with. Frequent free food/snacks, beverages, sponsored happy hours at local eateries. Some normal workplace annoyances but theyre bearable. Great orgs within the company to expand your social network and your mind. BEWARE: Nov-Feb you will be more stressed than you ever thought possible (and no days off during that time). The company is growing SO FAST but its "mind" hasnt caught up. Great culture and nice people...suffer from some antiquated procedures. Still the best people ive ever worked with and they pay you fairly.

It was okay when I first started but upper management turned over and got rid of the boss I liked that hired me in.  New boss had no idea of what I did and no appreciation.  Work life balance was awful.  He would make the team stay until 9, 10, midnight to get things done while he either went jogging or went home, willing to throw anybody under the bus and blame his mistakes on others.  I worked ungodly amounts of overtime and gave 150% effort only to be told I would receive no bonus and no merit increase.  (I did get my bonus and merit increase the previous year under the previous boss).  When I went to HR about this the only solution proposed was "what would it take for me to leave the company amicably?" Ended up being probably the worst professional experience of my life.  This place doesn't care about its employees.  It just uses people up and throws them away.  Management fosters a culture where everyone is constantly looking over their shoulders to check for knives pointed at their backs.  Not one person on the original finance team I was hired onto 2 and a half years ago is still working there today, including the CFO and VP of FP&A.

Let me start by saying that the work/life balance at Paycor 100% depends on what job you have. Anything that falls within the Client Support side of things: Payroll Support,  Time Support, Implementation, HR- they are going to have a MUCH different story to tell regarding work volume and work/ life balance than other departments. This is the side I will focus on because it is where I worked,  but I think it is important to point out that there is another side that has a completely different experience. Paycor does have a lot of great amenities like a gym and ping pong table, sponsored events,  but anyone on the client service side of things would not know anything about these things because they are way too busy to even think about participating in any of them. We had too many clients to efficiently support all of them. I can't tell you the last time I saw the bottom of my inbox. It was normal to work 5-10 hours of OT a week. We were not properly staffed. Managers are hired with no experience making them less than useful to their staff. Feeling overwhelmed,  under appreciated and like you are drowning are all normal feelings on the client service side. They do however compensate fairly,  that is the one saving grace.

If you work at Paycor, you will learn a lot. It is a very fast-paced industry (payroll and HR services/software). Many millennials are promoted within a year or two as long as they perform. More experienced workers have a harder time getting promoted even if they are newer and much more experienced than other at Paycor. There are constant engagement activities at the company. Benefits need some work but are improving. For example, life insurance was only $15,000 per employee, now it's up to the industry norm of 1 x salary. There are many learning and development opportunities for many roles at the company. They offer classes and e-Learning. They have the best "community partners" program I've ever seen by any company. This program is run by the employees to help employee-selected charities around town. They have Toastmasters, YP, a Women's Inspirational Network group, and an optional professional improvement program called Accelerate available. Turnover seems a little high right now but that should change.

The culture is great on the surface but underneath it all IT IS NOT. They will ask you if you want to go to another role but then tell you actually it is not an option to say no. SO WHAT WAS THE POINT IN ASKING ME. Then when you go to the other job you are actually added other job roles as well. And again you are asked if you want it but later told it is not an option to say no. 

When you ask for the compensation of doing 3 different jobs they will say “we pay for you doing well in these 3 roles not for adding the roles” or flat out say that’s not possible but pay the BARE MINIMUM while the higher ups are building pools and houses, meanwhile not even taking into account they have employees who are BARELY MAKING IT.

The managers make almost 6 figures if not 6 figures and the advocates are barely making 50k plus. The difference is crazy but we are supposed to feed our families and pay rent based on the HOPE we will advance because that is not guaranteed
