I genuinely wanted to enjoy my job. I was very excited when I got the job! I really really tried. I liked the job at first and still don't despise it, although when I started, majority of the employees were not genuinely happy including nurses and they let that be known. five of them left and a few of the current employees are looking to leave unfortunately due to nothing being done in the areas that need fixed. It's really sad because they're actually really good employees! As my time went on, I started to see clearly as to why everyone was unhappy. The Upper Allen office can do a lot better. Management try's their best and they are genuinely a good person. I personally love the head nurse. Unfortunately sometimes you are spoken to with a rude tone when they may be stressed. There is favoritism and behaviors that are allowed that are not okay. There's clearly a common denominator and they always get a slap on the wrist. Never have I ever had conflict at any job I've ever worked and unfortunately I did here and had to go above management.  You are expected to tolerate being talked to with an attitude. The doctors are ALL amazing to work for. They're really nice even though you're not with them much. I really enjoyed interacting with the kids. I've been told from other offices, not Penn state, that we do A LOT of back work including referrals, prior authorizations etc. there is a phone room where you answer the calls and then there is check in and check out. We're supposed to rotate but that didn't really happen. staff didn't stick around long enough. The pay isn't too great. There are evenings once a week for everyone, you are scheduled until 8, and Saturday shifts. We're the only medical group with late hours and that started after I started. I went to training for one week (it was supposed to be three weeks) and I was told I would have 7 extra weeks of training on site. I had one week of shadowing and that was it. The organization needs improvement. rules are being changed constantly. Half of the things you learn in training doesn't pertain to you because Upper Allen has their own way of doing things. We've had people from other locations come and help out and they even said, you can tell how unhappy everyone is. Their offices are nothing like that.  Overall, I don't recommend unless things change. I'm thankful I received experience that I can take further to my new job.

This review is specifically about the PSH Lancaster Medical Center Pharmacy Department

• Days were typically fast paced with many people skipping lunches or having severely delayed breaks in the pharmacy dept at Lancaster Medical Center
• Training and onboarding process is very inconsistent and does not properly set everybody up for success. There is a huge lack of structure & confusion on pharmacy policies/procedures, despite the hospital being open for nearly 2 years now; I fear this puts patient safety at risk
• Management attempts to resolve issues but fails to see that they are the root of the issues. Lots of poor management specifically from the pharmacy manager and the regional pharmacy director. Nobody listens to feedback and offer half-heart solutions that don’t pan out. High overturn in the department due to their behaviors. Manager and director appear to show favoritism within the department. 
• Pharmacists and technicians are hard working and they get along for the most part. It is the management within the department that drives people away. There have probably been 20 people that have left since the hospital has opened. • Pharmacy manager is a poor communicator and is condescending to the department and to other departments; it is not surprising that other departments within LMC do not like pharmacy
• PTO is great. Too bad it felt like nobody could take PTO, or else they get “punished” for it by getting scheduled extra shifts when they come back from PTO
• when I put in my notice, manager attempted to us fear and intimidation to coerce me into staying longer (i.e. giving a 4 week notice[!] instead of a 2 week notice) 

I was honestly trained on about 8 different stations

dining room attendant-cleaned dining room /cashier

cashier- totaled out peoples orders, counted your drawer at the end of the night, also stocked chips, candy, and nutri-bars.

the hearth- pizza station, learned how to make and cook pizzas, along with gluten free items, along with strombolis and deep dish pizzas, and garlic knots in a turbo oven, cleaned oven everynight, along with turbo oven and prepped about 25-40 pizzas a day.

exhibition station- served cultural foods with a Chef and helped him cook live

Grill line- made burger, cheeseburgers, chicken, black bean burgers, also breakfast foods. working a turbo oven with fries and chicken tenders 
 
assembly line- have a bunch of different dishes of food, along with a entrée serving it to customers, and helping those aside of you and replacing your dishes when empty

self serve bar- each day was different for the menu, set up the food accordingly and make sure you come back to check on it n clean up what people made messy. when you weren't doing that you were stocking cooler items while the stocker was being the runner for everyone else's food downstairs, also had to replace soups

wild green salad staion- always had two featured salads on the menu and you would make them or customers also had the option of getting a salad by weight, 

sandwhich station - in the morning you would make between 25-50 sandwiches of about 3-4 different sandwiches. customers would order a sandwich and get it customized the way they want it, along with different sides dishes

stocker/runner- stock/rotate everything in the coolers by date, over lunch you run for people, whatever they need downstairs you get for them because you cant leave your station over lunch

One of the unique features of my current job is that no two days are alike.  Each day I am faced with a different series of circumstances that require a flexible and adaptive personality to provide resolutions on any number of issues.
Those issues may range from having to make a last minute scheduling change due to an absent employee, to supplies that may be urgently needed by one of our clients or outpatient stations, to a disgruntled physician who did not receive their report as timely as they might have desired.

The biggest characteristic that I have learned through my current position is patience...Due to having to interactive with multiple personalities, cultures,professions, and ideologies have helped me to realize just how different people have different thought processes.

The hardest part of my job is demonstrating patience during high volume times with sub-standard employees.  There have been issues that warranted an employee to be reprimanded for less than professional behavior.  Irrelevant of personal opinion, the issue had to be addressed in a professional, non-judgmental manner.  Having to tell another adult, especially a senior adult of their short-comings occasionally make for challenging/interesting discussions.

The greatest joy that I receive from my job is knowing that everyday I am contributing in some small portion to the benefit of someone requiring healthcare services. I receive great personal satisfaction when I see that a patient who may have been extremely ill  get discharged from the hospital and able return to a fully active lifestyle.

A typical day at work begins with opening lab and scheduling patients whose orders were put in overnight. This includes coordinating with the patients nurse for the best time for patient to come to the echo lab for their echocardiogram. An appointment time is then scheduled in the patient transport system. On different days you are scheduled to perform in different areas of the hospital and perform different echocardiographic studies.  The rotation involves inpatients, portables, clinic, outpatient, and stresses.  Studies are performed and preliminary reports are completed with measurements and sent to the cardiologist. 
Since working for this company, my clinical skills have developed tremendously.  I have learned how to aquire images and measurement that are key parts of patient diagnosis and care.  I have learned how to position myself ergonomically, how to manage patient breathing to aquire difficult images. when to use contrast imaging agents.
Management encourages employees to be the best that they can be for themselves, coworkers, hospital and most of all, the patients.  Being an teaching institution, it provides room for growth in all aspects  Coworkers are always polite and willing to help.
The hardest part of the job is driving there.  I work eighty  miles one way from the medical center.  I enjoy being an echo tech and being part of a team.  The most enjoyable part of the job is the patient satisfaction and appreciation.

There is nothing good I can say about this place, except that its incompetent CEO was just replaced. It exists to serve the needs of Penn State Hershey's Medical Center and the Pinnacle Health system, as they are the two parent companies that came together create the hospital. Thus its first priority is not the well-being of the patients or the staff, but to simply get psych patients out of their respective ERs as fast as possible. Because of the actions of management, staff were regularly subject to dangerous situations that could have easily been prevented. (Yes, a volatile, potentially violent and dangerous environment is part of the job...I'm talking about situations which were a complete repeat of an earlier one, and we had all the information we needed to prevent them before they even happened.) Things may change there...but I think that's unlikely. Its financial situation is dire, and Pinnacle's interests [Pinnacle is the biggest player in the equation, as PPI's facilities are leased from Pinnacle] do not align with those of the patients...as long as the patients are moved rapidly out of its ER and don't get seriously hurt during their stay at PPI, well, Pinnacle is happy. There were many great people who worked there, but almost ALL of them are gone now, either having been fired or left voluntarily.

I worked for Penn State for 6 months. I had hoped this would be a long term position for me furthering to retirement. I felt it unprofessional from interview on. My interview, which I found out later, was conducted by peers and not management and the entire process was unprofessional and ridiculous. I actually left thinking “wow, management in this office is very casual” but I accepted the job with the mind set of doing a great job and being professional. It wasn’t until after I started I realized I had interviewed with coworkers. The management in the months I worked there gave no feedback at all. I was never asked how I liked the position, if I had any questions, or if I needed any assistance. It was a “thrown to the wolves” situation. In the months I worked in my practice, I went in, did my job and witnessed the absolute ridiculous nature of Penn State feeling like I had to “fit in” with the popular crowd in order to feel comfortable in my work place! They push diversity training down employees throats on a daily basis but never actually take notice to how most employees are not diverse or trained in appropriate ways to act in a professional setting. I witnessed overly rude interactions with patients, other coworkers, and management doesn’t have a clue or just doesn’t care. I went in with hopes working for Penn State would be a life changing experience and I could further my career and realized leaving this company was the best decision I ever made! 

My days vary in terms of my productivity in both administrative and in the field visiting the individuals whom I serve who have mental health diagnoses and an intellectual; or developmental disability. I form my schedule according to the time necessary to go to psychiatric appointments in order to help the individual advocate for him/herself(adults), visiting each individual utilizing the biopsychosocial model of clinical intervention, thus conceptualizing each individual in a comprehensive manner as I have a partner as well who takes care of nursing necessities. My director is extremely supportive and encouraging. She and I started the dual diagnosis treatment team over 5 years ago. There is a lot of autonomy in my position and we work on our honor in terms of salary and productivity. I attend conferences on updated treatment modalities, genetic syndromes and continue to learn every day. The most challenging part of my position as the clinician is writing biopsychosocial behavior plans of support, as it is very time consuming. I love my job in every way, my favorites being able to help those in urgent need and crisis as well as utilizing my extra training and experience in Psychopharmacology.

There is a lot to say about the Hershey Medical Center, having worked in the NMR Center and the Psychiatry Department.  A typical day in either department would involve coordinating research with the participants.  This involved working as a team with the primary investigators, any collaborators, and with coworkers on the projects.
My favorite part, however, was working on a diverse group of studies.  I was involved in clinical studies along with marketing research that involved The Hershey Company.  With this, I got to experience research in business to get in touch with consumers' brain pathways when they see certain brands, packaging designs, and store aisle end-caps, as well as when consumers smell chocolate.  After designing an experiment and running participants, I gave presentations and reports of our data to Hershey's marketing department.  This is how I became interested in market research.
The hardest part of the job was juggling multiple studies and managing/training a lot of people, although it can be done with some diligence and good communication which are not a problem.  The most enjoyable part of the job is working with Hershey on suggestions for future studies as well as recommendations for marketing their products.

I've worked for PSH for over 20 years. I always thought I would retire here.  I encouraged people to work for this organization for many years. When I started, management from all levels cared about you as a person (they knew you by name) you weren't just a number even though there were over 10,000 employees. You had opportunities for advancement and encouraged to learn new skills for advancement. Over the last 5-10 years, the lack of structure, strategic planning, poor management decisions and general oblivious acknowledgement for work/life balance has skyrocketed. Management states they have a plan, but they don't follow it. They are reactive, not proactive and it trickles down to the people doing the actual work having to put out fires and not being able to focus on their assigned work.  And then you're still expected to get your assigned work done within the unreasonable deadlines they have set.  HR stopped doing exit interviews because they don't want to hear the reasons why so many very talented people are leaving.
