The  job as a service coordinator is very stressful job. I would recommend it for recent graduate but leave after you get your experience. Everyday you are expected to get your 24 billable units if not management will harass you. The people that you deal with are low income senoirs that have a option to make the family member a paid personal care aide. So on typical day of a service coordinator you will get multiple telephone call from client's arguing they want the hours increased. Alot of the clients on the wavier program is abusing the services for larger paycheck. Some of the aides of the clients make more money then service coordinators at PCA. As service coordinator you have to do home visits to the clients house which can be in dangerous neighborhoods. Some of the clients homes are cluttered, infested with bed bugs, and digusting. You will have to use your personal car to do home visits so if you end getting into a car accident or your car gets damaged parking in these horrible neighborhoods it's all on you to cover the expenses. Lastly your whole work experience will depend on the supervisor you have. Some supervisor at PCA is just horrible to deal with and makes your life miserable. If you get a good and supportive supervisor this job will be little more bareable. The pay is very low for all the work that needs to be done. Not even enough to cover the cost of living.

I worked at PCA for about one year. Seemed like a great gig at first.. they give you a work cell, iPad, and own cubicle space. Little did I know they would be working me over hours, and not compensating me for it. Upper management is awful, and they really are non-supportive. My supervisor was unfriendly and made me feel incompetent at times. I was constantly afraid to ask questions. You are required to learn how to use SAMS and Oracle systems. Oracle worked very slow outside the office.. so it was always hard to type up cases at home. During training they don’t teach you how to right up cases correctly, which is frustrating cause that’s mostly all the work you do. You work after hours, and never leave on time. Upper Management threatened me a few times, it felt like I was gonna lose my job. This place is not a place to stay long-term. Get your experience and leave. Also, they do not compensate for car issues or bedbugs.. so be prepared to pay for all the fees yourself. Horrible experience at a company. There was never any sympathy at this company. You are simply a machine.

Mediocre work place.  If you apply for the job you're likely to be hired because there's a ton of work to be done.  I've worked in similar jobs but none like PCA. There's about 250+ Service Coord  working for the company. Everyone work in teams of 5-8 people. Training is between 2-4 wks and you will need it, in addition to being assigned a mentor. With all that training a mentor is definitely needed because you will not know what you are doing!!  The hardest and most difficult part of the job is BILLLING... I have a background in billing for services but nothing is like this place. The state (SAMs) has its own system and then PCA has Oracle, plus the state.  You have to use Oracle working for PCA, despite the state refusal of billing for Oracle software time.  If I'm confusing, please believe... the people who work there feels the same.  I remained with the company for a little over a year and leaving the company was the most enjoyable part of the JOB!

Care manager position requires in-office work and completing home visits of consumers. Care managers follow CMS guidelines for contact with each individual. Typical work in the office includes problem solving, taking telephone calls, logging all appropriate information into database, and updating individual service plans. The most enjoyable aspect of the job are the professional relationships that are built when working with consumers. I personally learned a great deal about networking with services and working one on one with consumers. I enjoyed working with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. PCA is an excellent company that strives to keep older philadelphians in the community safely.

PCA is a great starting job. However I would not recommend you stay there more than 2+ years. First of the training is 3+ weeks long and probation is 6 months. PCA lack of consistency through out the agency. When problems arise they rather push it under the wrong instead of working towards a better solution. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, THE MORE CONSUMER WE SERVE THE RICHER THEY GET. UNITS ARE THE DEVIL. YOU ARE PRESSURED TO GET 24 BILLABLE UNITS A DAY WHICH TAKES THE QUALITY OUT OF SERVICE COORDINATION. WHEN CONSUMERS ARE IN THE HOSPITAL AND NEED ASSISTANCE , THATS NOT BILLABLE SO YOURE BEST BET IS TO BE RUDE AND TELL THEM TO CALL YOU WHEN THEY GET HOME. I KNOW ITS SAD BUT ITS THE TRUTH. IF YOU WORK HERE MORE THAN A YEAR GOD BLESS YOU. 

The only good thing is they pay more than most agencies.

Working for PCA as an investigator is in short, a nightmare. There isn’t enough manpower to handle the number of reports that come in. Investigators are expected to manage caseloads in the 50-70 range, while the state says the maximum should be 30 cases. Workers are not paid accordingly. The turnover is very high and the cases from former employees get redistributed to already overworked staff. There is little room for advancement and there is certainly favoritism within the department. Supervisors do little to assist overwhelmed staff with case management, which leaves older adults at-risk.

I think most complaints I am aware of are typical of larger organizations.
In the section I worked in people stayed an average of two years before getting out...often to other departments.   In a department of around 20 professionals there were only 3 or 4 old timers who had stuck it out.  I felt sorry for our manager because the demands on that person were enormous...I could not have done that job.

LOVE this organization! Great values and mission and I'm honored to be an employee. Every job has its pros and cons but PCA is definitely one of those places where the pros cancel out the cons. Flexibility with schedule as far as the days and times you are in the office. You can schedule your home visits any way you like and I love that.. it's so convenience. I love being a service coordinator it brought a new view about elderly people and I have learned a lot about the field through guidance from the welcoming staff. It's only been 5 months but PCA looks like it's going to be my last stop! 

I have been working at PCA for almost 5 years. It has been a pretty bumpy ride due to micro-management. While I enjoy working with consumers and co-workers, upper-management can be really snobby. For a non-profit, you should expect lower compensation. However, the benefits (health care, pension, PTO, Life insurance, etc) are great. I also was able to complete an internship within the company in another department. Hopefully, they will grow their opportunities for advancement in the future. 

Worst job I ever had. Racists supervisor. You go to Investigations for your career to die. This is a place no one should expect to stay long. The overall environment is career stifling and there is little room for growth. The HR department is led by an old white guy who would never listers to your complaints and runs his department like a tyrant. The Investigations department is the worse department ever ever ever with super high turnover. Every black male who has ever worked there has left or was fired.
