Phoenix Home Care and Hospice

If you're applying as a caregiver, you'll probably do okay if you don't mind making $9 or $10 per hour (depending on what you do). They're always desperate for caregivers, so there's a 99% chance you'll be hired. But they're a private company, so they can't afford a living wage. And be prepared to fight for hours and deal with low mileage compensation.

If you're applying for the office, forget it. Well, unless you're the fake-happy cheerleader type. Then you'll be all right. They may or may not pay you more than $10 per hour, and again, it depends on what you're doing and if they deem your experience level worth bumping up another dollar or two. 

Their mission statement is awesome. It's great that the company overall strives for Christ-like values. The problem comes with implementation. They're trying way too hard to be over-the-top cheerful and act like the world is all cupcakes and rainbows. It's very difficult to just be real with them, and you're always faced with that cheerleader facade, even when you're trying to seriously get a point across or get something accomplished. You'll spin your wheels trying to get anyone to take you seriously.

Part of this facade is also in the way one is required to look. It is understandable (and even expected) that a business wants its employees to look presentable and paint the business in a good light. But general business dress isn't good enough. Caregivers have it a bit easier, but office staff must always appear as though they've just made CEO of a company and are ready to walk the red carpet. Forget dressing frugally. Be prepared to spend some serious bucks on wardrobe. And if they ask you to wear a Phoenix brand polo? You still have to wear nice dress shoes (preferably heels) if you're a woman, and nice dress shoes if you're a man. (That said, the company is predominantly women, so that probably explains that.)

There is little to no advancement opportunity. No real way to climb ladders unless you want to be an office manager (and who knows how long that will take). 

Insurance is expensive and terrible even if you get it.

They're getting to the point where they're pushing every service possible at their clients. If you're going to be a caregiver, you can count on also being a salesperson pushing Phoenix products and services.

In summary, the company needs to focus more on taking care of its people (both employees and clients) than on appearances. Appearances can be deceiving, but a true heart for human beings will always shine through. If you're okay putting on a face every day, go ahead and apply. But if you'd rather be real, work hard, and know your hard work counts, go elsewhere.

Phoenix Home Care has the ability to be one of the best places to work. However, they continuously allow people to remain in leadership positions that have no business being there. When you walk in you are expected to know and learn the Mission Statement and Core Values however you have leaders there that have no idea what it means to actually be examples of that. It is also very evident that Phoenix is only concerned with looking as though they are the best and not actually putting in the work to be the best. If people notice that the rating on Indeed is getting too low emails are sent out asking employees to give and write a positive review with the purpose of pushing these to the bottom so people see only the good things. If you have to ask people to say something nice, that should be a sign. Instead of trying to drown out these reviews supervisors should take the time to actually read them because they pinpoint a lot of the issues there. If you are seeing a constant turnover in your field staff maybe take a look at why they are leaving and try to fix the issue, instead supervisors want to ignore the signs right in front of their eyes. One supervisor in particular sets high standards and goals for their team that they themselves cannot and have never achieved. Then when the team members do not perform well, they are chastised. How can you truly call yourself a good leader if you set your team up to fail? These same supervisors are not interested in seeing their team grow, they are only concerned about their growth and they make that very evident. Not all of the leadership there is bad. I know that once this is posted your going to respond with your blanket "Mission Statement Response", let me save you some time and say don't bother. If you want to make things better sit down with those leaders that are ACTUALLY examples of your core values. Those are the ones that will take you places.

On the first part of this is the field work and information! Little to no information, you have no idea 9 times out of 10 what your are stepping in to. Yes it gives you a list of your duties, but there are many times you step in to a situation that is impossible to meet company guidelines, such as lifting. Thank God that I had previous medical training. There is little training on how to care for a patients needs. You basically have two days and then bam out in the field with clients. In home is just as bad or worse as Private pay. Facilities that they contract to are experiencing the same issues. Poorly trained aides, lack of concern for the employees, broken promises, over worked staff with little time for their families and very poor compensation for the responsibility held. On top of being a nurse or aide for the company you are suppose to "sell them". They want more Patient care referred to nurses, Physical therapy, ect... How do we sell a company that can't provide the correct information on something as simple as a face sheet or even offer basic training. It's not like these issues have not been addressed by supervisors. In videos they show when you are hired with the company they speak of how and why the company is started. The owner himself reflects an open door policy, but when it is requested to speak with the owner the office staff and supervisors make it very difficult to speak to him. and also when asked why you can't, they throw out words like protocol and make statements saying that he would be upset if we didn't go through channels before we talk to him. So my question is why would you want to work for and be a client of a company that has quite frankly gotten to big to fast and didn't bother with the small details.

I would never recommended anyone working for or have this company taking care of my loved ones. First you can tell that they do not care or take this reviews seriously because all reviews are replied with the same auto-generated response. Second the schedulers will tell caregivers there are tons of hours however none were never available. Third the privacy and security of an employees information is not kept private. I watched the HR Supervisor Mallory take someone else's personal file which should have been locked up and she placed this individuals file on a desk open and out for others to look at. So your private information which is legally supposed to be secure is not. If you ask for something from your own personal file it is not provided to you which an individual has a legal right to their own information. They do not back their employees in any way. The office staff and supervisors will cover their own butts before they think about yours. They will throw you under the bus in a heart beat so a recommendation is to record, take pictures and do a lot of documentation. Very unethical, illegal and discriminatory practices take place with this company and they gamble on you to not know the laws and policies, BIG MISTAKE!  Do not let this company bully you.

As someone that is in the field, your day is literally what you make it. You get the flexibility of choosing when, where, and how long your day is whenever you talk with your supervisor. If you need extra time off for a family emergency, they will let you. The clients are very caring and down to earth. As long as you go to work ready to help your client that day, they will be happy to have you. The biggest part of my job, other than caring for my clients, is communication. It is the ONLY way to move forward in anything. Phoenix emphasizes the importance of communication from day one. They will be open, honest, and work with you if you do the same for them. The hardest part of any job learning to leave your personal stuff at the door. You must do this because our clients need their caregivers at their best so that they get the best care. This is also why it is vitally important to let your supervisor(s) know what is happening. I am so incredibly grateful to continue working for Phoenix Home Care and Hospice. All of my supervisors have been incredible. There have been moments that were tough, but they didn't leave me in the mess. Thank you, Phoenix Home Care and Hospice, for being the best place I've ever worked.

I worked here for 2 weeks and 1 day. The amount of people that quit during this time was unheard of to me. On my first day, my manager left me unattended for 6 hours already expecting me to do the job. This was my first leadership position & I had zero training. When I came back for my second day, the HR director literally came to my desk, shocked that I returned. "Oh my goodness! You came back" My co-coordinator (who was only there for a month) quit at the end of my first week because of the lack of training and increasing work load with no direction. Field supervisors & caregivers also quit. The coordinator for our other department started a week before I did. No one will train you or prepare you for all of the meetings or your workload but you will still be put on the spot and blamed if you don't deliver.  Everyday there was something new that I was never told but expected to know. I was excited to work here because I truly felt that I would be making a difference and while I did build relationships with some of the clients and the other coordinators, going into that office everyday was not worth the sake of my mental health. 

Phoenix has been wonderful to my family and I. The CEO of the company takes the time to get to know each and every individual no matter the title! If you get hired by Phoenix it means they see good quality in you. I have noticed they prefer not to have the quantity but the quality of employees. Making Phoenix stand out among-st the other home care companies. As for me and my family we Choose Phoenix!

What more could you ask for? Being a adult can get dull and stressful but at Phoenix they help by bringing in some light and throwing in a extra hand?

This company is very disorganized.  The bottom dollar is their only concern.  They do not believe in a work/ life balance even though they expect you to be available all of the time - there is no 9-5 with this company.  They have so many irrelevant made up titles and not enough employees who actually work, therefore the home health service suffers with very slow response times of them actually showing up to provide the service.  They like to cherry pick Medicare patients and give their priority to their private duty care service which is “ self pay” so it does not have to be regulated.  This company is greedy and it shows in what they pay nurses and they aren’t appreciative of their employees.  Their tactic is to micromanage and try to intimidate with firing staff.  The atmosphere in their office is hostile at best. 
   This company has been battling a negative reputation for some time and they just don’t seem to be getting it right yet. 

Every workplace has its stressors, but I feel comfortable going to management with any concerns I have.  The work culture here is generally positive and inclusive, and our team in Joplin works together extremely well.  We are all excited about the growth we are seeing in our market.  As a private duty nursing field supervisor working with special needs children, I find my work most rewarding.  Home care is a rapidly expanding field, and it is gratifying to see more and more nurses and caregivers embracing it.  Although hourly pay tends to be lower than that of a hospital, there are compensations. The model of care is more continuous and more personal.  Nurses here feel like they really make a difference in the lives of their patients, not just passing through, passing meds and charting for 6-8 or more patients who are usually gone in a day or two.  I highly recommend Phoenix both for its culture and its mission. 

Since I accepted my position with Phoenix, I have been a part of the team. My manager messaged me the week after she knew I had put in my notice to check in, and just see how my boss handled it. When I went to training I was not treated like the newby, I was treated like I had been an employee for years for Phoenix. The positivity is insane in the office, and you are truly valued as an employee. My first day of being on my own I had texts from my manager telling me how awesome I am going to be. There is always someone willing to answer questions, and help you become the best employee you can be. They have tons of optional training classes to help you become just a better team member. I enjoy going to work, I enjoy my job. My entire family can tell a difference in my personality including my two year old. My relationships in and out of work are stronger than they have ever been thanks to this company. I suggest working for Phoenix to everyone, especially if you are looking for somewhere you feel like you belong.
